So we at EG are starting a new series called ‘This week in fan mail…’ which as you might assume we will take either the worst hate mail or the over the top fan mail and post it for all to read, perhaps with commentary as well.

Credit corrections for NHK chapter 37

I am saddened to announce that I have, uh, fucked up. When I placed the credits for chapter 37, I gave the incorrect credits for the translator. The entire translation for that chapter was by Nomimono, and not Elliot E. as shown. It’s sad that Nomimono’s hard and high quality work wasn’t recognised because of my uh, fucking screwup. I just want to say sorry to Nomimono for this gigantic screwup, it was incredibly careless of me. Hopefully, it would not happen again. I’m a giant idiot.
But my screwup aside, releases may come in around this weekend or the next. More NHK, Angel Heart, and finally Biomega! I’ll be careful with the credits next time. I do believe in credits where it’s due, so I feel really bad about this.
EDIT: Incredible. I spelled the guy’s name wrong as well. I should be shot.

Finishing up series, and moving forward.

T-minus 11 days and counting down till another Berserk is out in Japan. Given that the team is almost finished up with their exams and course work, we are all ready to relax and enjoy our favorite mangas. The status on all of them are that we are working as time allows. We are shooting for a mega-release along with Berserk, that includes B.Reaction!, biomega, nhk, zetman, and ah. If the various teams feel that they are done, we will release earlier.
In the back of everyone’s mind here is where to proceed after NHK and B.Reaction! are finished. No plans are definite, but there are a few mangas out there that have tickled our fancy. However, if you all have ideas feel free to post ‘em.
Try to keep requests limited to non-licensed series and along the same EG theme we have going on here unless you can justify it. Also, be aware if we do pick up another series, it will be something that we all want to work on rather than what is popular.
There are also more comics on the way as well, fuji has been a very very busy person as of late. In the mean time, hang tight and the manga goodness will come soon.
edit: another stipulation for manga requests is that they be not currently scanlated by other groups.

Sorry about the inactivity, guys. I know you haven’t heard from us, but we’ve been working behind the scenes. We’ll try to release a batch of Zetman and Angel Heart next week. Unfortunately, NHK and Biomega will have to wait, since exam period is nearing on us, and we haven’t studied yet because we’ve either been lazy/editing manga/reading about people editing manga/reading a manga about editing. As for NHK, we could really use an editor and a Japanese translator for some chapters. It would really help speed the releases up if we had some help with this. Please contact me (Eldo) if you think you think you could help out. However, it should be noted that NHK is pretty hard to translate, and is incredibly hard to edit, so an incredible amount of determination and dedication is needed.
Also, thank you all for offering to help us find the raws for Breaction. We already had them shortly after the last post was made, and I guess I was too lazy to edit it. We’ll going to work on that as soon as we’re done with the other stuff. It’s so great of the community to get involved, and I thank you all for your kind comments on this page and the emails.

We have a bit of good news and a bit of bad news. Good news is that we have more Berserk for you all, yay! We also have a metric ass-ton of Zetman and an Angel Heart as well. So, this leads up to the bad news. 286 of Berserk won’t be out in Japan till June 22nd. Yes yes, we know… it makes us a bit sick too. We will keep on keeping on and fill the berserk-less gap with other manga. So remember, the sooner you guys can find us the raws for B.Reaction! 10-14, the sooner we can turn it around to you all with a translation. So far, our two leads in Japan have turned up nothing thus far. *sigh*

Attention to those who use Peer Guardian!
It has come to our attention that Peer Guardian blocks our tracker. This hurts you all and we are not happy about it either. We have submitted a request to remove the filter for our tracker but in the mean time, per their FAQ entry:

Evil_Genius Comic with a Berserk 285 Preview

Considering the amount of craziness that goes on in the forums, we just had to make our own comic based on the events that transpire there. Fuji has offered to help us chronical the madness, so I present to you all, Evil_Genius’ very own web-comic!

We started off with 3 comics up front to get things rolling, and for now it will be infrequent. The core of the artwork and story is Fuji and editing done by LordMune.

For those who do not know, Killfile and psi29a both work at the VTCRC on Virginia Tech’s campus. So the reason for the non-manga news is that it was easiest way to get the information that we know to you all and our loved ones, especially those who wake up at Virginia Tech and read Evil_Genius so they can get the fuck out of there.
Killfile’s wife teaches on Tech’s campus and more importantly she has taught in Norris. She also had TAs scheduled to teach in that particular classroom, 205 and 206. So we are all spooked, tired, worn out, and have been helping any way we can. Killfile and I (and our office) went to the convocation yesterday to morn with our fellow Hokies and I’ll post more pictures in the forums.
However, this does not put a damper the spirit of Evil_Genius as we pushing forward. Translation work of Biomega 21 is almost done, translation of AH is done, and we are going to start on NHK 37 and 38 soon. One of our own is in Japan right now, enjoying himself and also on the lookout for the missing B. Reaction chapters we need to complete the series.
So, we continue to soldier on and many thanks to all of those who offered their thanks and condolances. If anyone wants to stop by Blacksburg, we would be more than happy to share our beer with everyone.

Shootings at Virginia Tech (VPI) 32 dead, 28 wounded

This is breaking news from killfile and psi29a who live next to VT campus. For all of our readership who goes to tech (we have a few), stay safe, and stay away from the people with assault weapons. This apparently isn’t the first, this year!
Several sources on Virginia Tech’s main campus are reporting possible shootings on Virgina Tech’s main campus. Emergency crews including fire, ambulance, and police are on the scene. This page will be updated as new information is made available.
Update 1Emergency response began at AJ (West Ambler Johnston), one of Virginia Tech’s dormitories and has now spread to the front of McBride hall. The Virginia Tech community is now under lock-down, including this office. There is, as yet, no indication that this is related to the string of bomb threats Tech has received throughout the last week.
Update 2Virginia Tech has confirmed that “A shooting incident occurred at West Ambler Johnston earlier this morning.” Police response has been swift and students on-site report a heavy police presence including officers armed with assault rifles. Students and faculty are urged to stay indoors and away from windows.
Killfile and I are fine atm, but please to those who are still on campus, lock your doors and grab your bats.

Governor Tim Kaine has declared a state of emergency, giving Tech access to far more of the apparatus of the state. Kaine is flying back to Virginia from an economic conference in Tokyo and should arrive early tomorrow morning.
At this point, despite numerous victim interviews and repeated media inquiries, no information as to the nature of the shooter’s weapon has been forthcoming.
The press conference tonight was a complete farce, and I want to smack each and everyone of the fucking media pundents *ahem* journalists there for interjecting opinion instead of asking questions. Also, how many damn ways can one ask the same question! I want say thank you personally to all our men and women in uniform for their help today. They did a very professional job and made the best decisions they could under the circumstances.
We are talking about 2600 acres of land of open campus in a free society, emphasis on free. Having more security will not make the situation better, nor will throwing more money at it make it better. This shit happens and we all need to grieve, cope, and support ourselves and those who help to protect us.

As you can infer from the title, we are preparing for a hurricane of activity that will descend upon us on the 6th.
I want to thank everyone on EG team for coming together over the weekend and getting all of our projects up to date. NHK for example is notoriously hard to translate due to many cultural references and awkward language considering it’s length. The editing isn’t a piece of cake either due to quality of the raw. The hope is that you all will be pleasantly surprised and that the wait hasn’t driven you all up the wall.
We are waiting for Berserk so that we can make one huge release of manga with an additional special surprise for all of you.
Also, if you want a place to hang out and shoot the shit as it were, join us in the forums. The forum has been around 3+ years with 4000+ registered members and a constant flow 5~10 people online at any given moment. Being free of corporate sponsorship, we are free to be more mature in content and are not family friendly. Be it anime, comics/manga, movies, literature, music, politics, current events, technical support/linux/windows/osx, or general mayhem.
The forums are free of general noobery, but I have to warn you that the moderators practice a liaise faire attitude, so if someone is flamed, it is probably because they asked a dumb question or said something stupid. We are not here to be your parents, so treat others how you wish to be treated. If you feel wronged, flame back and make a good show of it. Nothing gets more respect then someone who can hold their own.
So, that being said, we here at EG are going to go silent for awhile till Berserk 284 is released then we will kick off the new Spring/Summer here with a blast.

What’s to say, every post here is time taken away from doing other stuff. 
The script for nhk 35 is being wrapped up now, typesetting is finished for 33 and started on 34 and then 35. Scripts of biomega and zetman, and nhk 36 are underway.
If you guys are extra patient (you kind of have to), we also have a special treat coming soon as well. Also, once phpBB3 comes out of beta testing, I plan on rolling that out live with the new forum layout I’ve designed which from our beta testers have to say (I’m looking at you Silverado of MU, happy birthday man!), looks hella nice, clean, to the point, and rather swank.
Also, if any of you have some Japanese written language skills, by all means let us know. We have plenty of material to work with.
Also, news for you B! Reaction fans out there. We have a forum member and a EG member going to Japan and both are on the lookout for chapters 10-14 which would complete our collection of raws and we can official finish that series! Wish our valiant travels well!
Additional update: Ack, forgot to mention to you all that we are switched over to the new server. Thanks for all who donated and for people still donating, I’m just ~$100 USD shy of breaking even on the investment. Which is great, you guys rock. I even have pictures! Note that I have put more ram inside, which bumps us to 2gigs, but we have two slots left just in case. Each slot can span from 512meg to 4gig. So as more fans show up, there will plenty of room to expand. =)
Thanks again, and we hope to make one hell of a release when Berserk arrives, plus goodies indicated above.

As you all probably have noticed already, we are in a state of transition. The first part to get the update was the tracker. Currently the blog which you see now, it obviously isn’t finished and I need to spend a few more hours tweaking it. The banner at the top isn’t final, it is something Eldo threw together which was really nice and I liked it.
I know so people prefer the ‘dark’ atmosphere but that is going to move away from pure ‘dark’ for the sake of readability.
Last project is the forum re-design and that is all dependent on when the phpBB 3 will be released.
Now, if you think you can make a better header image, then by all means take a wack at it. Here is a template psd file I’ve made for everyone.
It can be opened and manipulated in GIMP and in Photoshop.
That is the skinny on what is going on, and we are not done yet.
