That's very true. One of my teachers told me that to do what Picasso did, you really have to know your basics, and that's something a lot of "artists" today are missing. They think that they just have to do some abstract bullshit and give some bullshit explanation to the piece and they are suddenly awesome, when they aren't even close to the level of the old masters. I don't really like the path Picasso chose (I prefer DaVinci or Michelangelo's work), but he definitely knew his stuff.

Man, you keep on surprising me with your knowlegde on this stuff Buz.

Ayanami: I think I mentioned this to Kether too, but it seems that you are going straight for the outline in your drawings. I highly recommend that you rough things out lightly before finalizing a drawing. Trust me on this one, it'll do wonders. Keep it up!

Yeah, I have been doing more drawings off of gesture style foundation lately, but I don't have the made cross hatching skills you got Femto. Lately I have been trying to rough up my work, it is just hard for me to make it darker and darker and darker to build on my drawing to do so, all my foundation lines are very light and don't play as much of a part as I want them too right now.

Oh well, enough rambling, I think I will draw some more tomorrow when I don't feel like crap. (God a killer head cold or something right now)

Edit: Aight Tempest, I guess I will show that Rei I did and a incomplete drapery I also did for CCS.

Good work Rei.

You know, another artist I really like is Salvador Dali.

Forget about cross hatching, I shouldn't even be doing that yet considering how lacking I am in the actual figure. "You have to go around the figure," this is something my teacher once told me, and it's something important to keep in mind. Gesture is extremely important too, and hatching is not really neccesary to get any of that down, neither is shading. I do it every once in a while just because I want to practice with it.

That drapery looks really nice, BTW.

I've got something a little different for you guys this time, an animated clip. I uploaded it for Starnum the other day, so I might as well share it with anyone else that's interested. It's just a backflip and it took me a whole night to finish, but it's cool to watch it frame by frame. You'll need Quicktime to see it and it's limited to less than 25 downloads. It'll be up for 7 days before it gets deleted.

Here it is.

I have quick time, but when I click on here it goes to the quicktime site.

Am I doing some thing wrong?? Do I have to set Quicktime as default player??

The link to the file is further down.

Thanks man. You have no idea how hard and time-consuming it is to animate something like that. Sure, I am kinda inexperienced in animating, but it still takes a while. Still, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing your goddamn drawings move.

As I said, I suggest seeing it frame by frame, just pause the player and move the arrows back and forth.

I hear ya, I can only imagine how time consuming it was.

Just saw it frame by frame, must have took ya all night eh??

I don't think I have that kind of patience, that is why I don't go to that art school any more. heh heh

I might as well post this now before it gets deleted...

Here is my final project for one of my classes from last semester. I'm not too proud of it because time was running short towards the end and I had to rush some things. And I'll give another cookie to whoever can tell me where the song is from. It's around 70MB I think, so yeah, broadband recommended.

Enjoy.

And thanks for the comments on the backflip everyone. One of my teachers told me that animation sucks. In hindsight, I can see what he was trying to say. It definitely is a lot of work and it mostly isn't fun, but the reward more than makes up for it.
As I said, seeing your freaking drawings move is just bliss.

I will quote Keanu Reeves when I say, "That was most excellent dude"

No idea where the song is from, sounds familiar though...
