August 29th, 2008 at 12:15 am
i just got a tip from a friend who got it from another friend who watched an interview with kentarou miura. so if we have any fans here i’ll rattle on a couple of apparant facts. apparantly miura wrote the ending of berserk a while ago and at the end of every volume he ties it to the ending. you know, incase he dies of old age. also, he is reduing the anime to make it less hap-hazzardish and actually alligns to the full manga. also when it first came out, after the third or something volume there were huge gaps between chapters and sometimes over a year. i doubt that this is what’s going on now. there’ll be a new episode anyday now. just thought i’d tell the members of the community a few rumours. again, not sure if they’re true.
August 29th, 2008 at 7:59 am
Hey, Mr. Miura! How are you? =) If it’s not too much trouble, would you mind drawing us a new chapter please? After you finish lunch maybe? =) I’m scared for my health you know! I can’t sleep without knowing how everything turns out with Griffith and co. *catches a fly with his teeth* And that !HUGE! ganishka dude!!! And Zodd is like: “WTF?!?” And poor Guts is all messed up as usual =( And Caska is like “aaa-gooo-goo” and Farnese has NICE BOOBS! *drooling* Khe-khe… My doctor told me to take these pills, but… They’re not working!!! AAAAA!!! GRRRR!! BRRR!!! ..*bangs head against the wall*.. Whew, that’s better. So… Where was I? Hm… Time to watch pokemon? Was I gonna walk my cat or something?.. Ah, Berserk, that’s right! Mr. Miura, could you draw us a new chapter after dinner maybe? *pills kicked in* Ohhhhkaaaaayyyy… I gotta goooo… Time to watch Sailormoon… *Accidentaly knocks over the computer, the table, falls down, steps on the cat and leaves the room mumbling: “I’m sailormoon! I.. Revenge.. Moon diadema, give me powaaa.. Maaaa, feed the cat please…”*
August 29th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
why doesnt he just hurry his ass up and get to the ending so he doesnt have to worry about having an ending made up incase he dies.
August 30th, 2008 at 3:38 am
Heh I doubt any of that is even true. He just likes taking his time and hes at a really difficult spot right now. He has to think of a way to make the fight possible between Griffith and Ganishka. Besides, he doesn’t want to fuck up the story by going too fast and releasing stuff quickly. This isn’t Naruto, this is a piece of art. Deep down I wish things were to go faster but I’ll take quality over quantity any day.
August 30th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Since no one has said thanks specifically for the Angel Heart chapter, I will. Good work and keep em coming, personally I prefer AH way above CH ^^
August 30th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
@24
You don’t rush something like Berserk. If he hurried his ass up on any of it, it’d likely be no where near as great as it is.
August 30th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Well, I’m afraid I’ll have to shoot most of those down.
1. The anime is not being adjusted, nor is a new series being worked on. The people involved in the anime have said countless times they wanted to continue it, but neither the networks nor the author are ready or interested. (Last comments regarding this was circa 2003. And that was four years after they initially started talking about it.)
2. Regarding releases. I expect the pace to remain about the same as it is now. Don’t expect sweeping changes.
2. I’m a fan of all the characters, including Griffith, but the recent White Hawk arc has been such a yawn. Great art, but I can’t help but wish he’d “skip it and get to the good stuff.” As a personal aside, I lament the long absence of Caska in any true sense besides being a mind-altered nuisance; it’s like a knife twisting every time I see her like that, not to mention seeing it for years. (Not in terms of story-arc time, but ours.)
Impatiently yours,
J.
August 30th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
thedude,
Because he needs the money, I guess.
August 31st, 2008 at 12:27 pm
¡Yiiiiiiiiiijiiiiiiiii! Zetman seeeeeee. Thx
August 31st, 2008 at 10:10 pm
if it’s true that he’s working on redoing the anime, then that would probably explain why there hasn’t been any releases so far. I don’t know but if anybody saw a decline in the production of the manga when muira was working on those berserk video games, then….well whatever, I’m just glad to hear it. @Harold, By the way, do you know if there is a video of that interview?
September 1st, 2008 at 12:47 am
@Harold, a rumor from a friend of a friend? Nevermind. I’ll just be waiting for some actual facts.
September 1st, 2008 at 9:01 am
I’m not doubting anyones rumors. Harold’s remarks are quite remarkable and fascinating if true. I’m not a writer, but it seems not so much a stretch to consider an author looking to solidify and consecrate certain seminal story points and story boards, for direction and as markers for what he his trying to build up to with the current story.
In turn this would allow Miura the ability to utilize his keen sense of foreshadowing and symbolism regarding the importance of miniscule events (percieved at the time in the story)and how things all play out down the road….Assuming Miura knows and has already written up where that road will lead.
In regards to hearing all these quotes from Miura from second-hand sources, this has been going on for a long time. Leading people to base there entire POV of Berserk of some “supposed” assertion by Miura, that people have gone by the words of another in assuming what Miura actually said.
I’m curious to know if there are any Miura fan-sites out there (likely Japanese). Many big name writers do have such things, “official” or not. I’m sure if such a site or sites existed that be a great place to seek out the words of Miura through features like actual interviews or quotes directly from the man himself. Unfortunately though I can speak a little Japanese, when it comes to translating from script I’m worthless.
-The Prince
September 1st, 2008 at 9:09 am
According to wikipedia Miura is only 42 years old. And according to CIA factbook the life expectancy for males is 78.73 years in Japan. Unless he has a bad health condition it strikes me as weird to have him to worry about dying before the end of each volume.
September 1st, 2008 at 9:20 am
new anime? SWEET
September 1st, 2008 at 11:02 am
well he’s 42…but the way the manga is going I’ll be dad before its finished haha and im only 22 lol. Miura’s ability as an artist is unsurpassed, both in written story and hand drawn art. I do think the time and effort put into his drawings are phenonimal…but at this point…the beautiful art doesn’t matter to me. With his long breaks between short chapters…i don’t even pay attention to the art. I’m more interested in actual story development.
Its almost like he’s stalling! Back story and chacter development are a MUST in my opinion…but this is turning into bleach/naruto. The last 2 volumes could easily be condesened into a 1 volume. I’m gonna be flammed to hell for this…bub for christ sake man, finish the damn thing or give us something more than useless, boring, and/or repeditive dialogue.
Let the monksbane hatred fan club assemble :\
thx btw EG, your scans are always top notch!!! Zetman woooo!!!
September 1st, 2008 at 3:48 pm
You can die any second of your life…He could be in a car accident, trapped in his house during a fire, victim of an armed robbery, lightning strike. Besides, many writers will start with an ending and fill in the rest. It’s not such a bad thing to have a set ending especially if it is something as epic as Berserk.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Don’t let Harold get you excited. I’ll believe there’s a new anime when I hear an official announcement, or at least a rumor from a reputable source.
Thanks for your work EG!
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:06 am
it’s really not so far-fetched that he would have writen the ending. i mean would he really be able to write such a masterpiece if he wasn’t possitive where he was going with it? and i’m pretty sure miura is older than that. wikipediea isn’t the most accurate source. but then again, who am i to be talking about reliable sources lol.
oh, and thanks for the new zetman EG. great work.
September 2nd, 2008 at 5:54 am
@Dude: or having one’s head cut off by a fan who also was a highlander-wannabe who believed that by taking Miura’s head he would posses all his skills and knowledge….
The bastard’s real lucky they won’t let me on an airplane with a sword.
September 2nd, 2008 at 3:51 pm
All I can say is wow… the wait for the new Berserk is just getting ridiculous. Has it been a year already? Since the last chapter was released? It blows my mind.
All I hope is he wrote the ending and locked it in a safe. And if he dies, the end of the epic Berserk will at least be freaking revealed.
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Thanks so much for updating Zetman! I love Katsura’s new work, even if it’s a little bit crude sometimes… Kouga and Jin are soooo cool and cute! (Drooling, hehehe). Can’t wait to see more of volume 9
. Thanks again!
September 2nd, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Oh my god where’s berserk 298!?!?!
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:58 pm
I think that the impression of “never ending” gives berserk manga extra charm. I mean, it feels really good to know that there are still many volumes to be released from ones favourite manga right? If I knew that the end is near I would enter crisis I think… but in an interview not long ago Mr Miura stated that he aproximately reached the half of the storyline. That means we can hope for many more chapters and volumes and epic battles and plot changes and everything we like at berserk, and it also means he knows exactly where he’s going, and possibly know the ending. Whether he has written it or not, it is still a rumor.
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:48 pm
@Luis: Just next to the 299
September 4th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
True, but I mean, shit… I’ll probably have a kid in a couple of years… it’s insane to think one day my 20 year-old will one day look at me finishing the last tankobon of Berserk and go “IT’S OVEEERRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!”.
Like I said, the length is insane.
September 4th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
I prefer it when stories end, not saying they should rush berserk to the end, but it really dragged out for way to long in my book, Im getting Robert Jordan-vibes.
and Zetman is fucking amazing! Such nicely drawn manga with an interesting concept depicting so different heroes.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:13 am
yeah i love zetman. but you think kouga would have matured a little after his trials. what’s with that?
September 6th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Just got through all the 95 chapters of Zetman… shit is going down now. Can’t wait to read the next one.
September 7th, 2008 at 8:50 am
Brazilian saudations!
Zetman is cool, but still its not Berserk…
Man, I dont mind Berserk gets too long, but this waitin is surely a ** in the ass, and if its true that it has just reached the half of the storyline, man, then it means that in 2028 we’re still going to be waitin for new chapters!!!
PUTAQUEPARIU!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
yeah, and the world ends in 2012!
September 9th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Shit how did you know that now I’ve got to change my plans.:)
September 9th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
How about next update
?
September 10th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Yeah… considering X-Files the world does end in 2012… or at least something of that proportion happens… Anyway… I don’t think it’s possible for him to die of old age so soon… he eats Japanese for HIS sake!
Talking about next YA release… Well… We’ll see tomorrow if any Berserk’s coming up soon…
Phireo
September 11th, 2008 at 5:42 am
@Phiero:
“he eats Japanese for HIS sake!”
actually i think that
he eats Japanese and drinks sake!
September 11th, 2008 at 7:01 am
Manga you should read while waiting for next Berserk:
1. Ubel Blatt
2. Gantz
3. Battle Angel Alita
4. Banya
5. Blade of the immortal
Trust me on these, Berserk is the blueprint of what i like regarding manga storytelling and art. I’ve paddled through oceans of manga crap to find these pearls so that you don’t have to.
September 11th, 2008 at 11:25 am
This if fu&^ing ridiculous ! I can’t bear it anymore ! I’m going insane ! No Berserk for almost 3 months, and nothing announced yet ! THREE months, from 16th June that’s practically the whole summer. If nothing shows up till 1th October I’ll start my first University year by killing my classmates in frustration !!
September 11th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Due to a long wait for the next chapter I’ve decided to remind everybody a fun-fact.In 1994 there was a really long wait between chapter witch had a global effect on popular culture. Director Kevin Smith decided to alter the script of ‘the clerks’ in the last minute to introduce an unplanned character Olaf Oleeson who have performed the all time classic song ‘Berserker’ witch lyrics I took liberty of qouting here:
”
My love for you is like a truck, Berserker
Would you like some making fuck, Berserker
My love for you is like a rock, Berserker
The Berserker is just so obscene
Likes evil people you know what I mean
He takes your soul and then just rips you apart
He’ll steal your heart
Would you like to smoke some pot, Berserker
My love for you is ticking clock, Berserker
Would you like to suck my cock, Berserker
Would you like some making fuck, Berserker
”
Ok, I actually just made up the background a second ago. It’s a cool song though…
September 11th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
No… no Berserk on the 26th either… just checked… as for krazyivan… I meant sake as in the english word sake, taken from the dictionary:
1. cause, account, interest, or benefit: for the sake of all men.
while HIS was meant to the “father” as in the bible… not at Miura… anyway… I already said this:
Three good mangas I am rereading now…
– Claymore … Medieval fantasy regarding girls wielding large claymores… a Berserk with women as protagonists… quite heavy though…
– Record of Lodoss War… D&D Fantasy… old manga but got some nice plots… quite optimistic…
– Trigun… much better than the anime… even if the anime was really good too…
Nice reading and waiting!
Phireo
September 11th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Thing about claymore is, it just bored me half to death with its story telling. you know the, I’ve got a secret power but I’ll only unleash it once I’m almost dead. Oh jesus, what a cliff hangar.
September 11th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
i just thought you meant that Miura’s eating healthy for he’s own good. I’m such a pagan that I would never get that God stuff. Anyway I’m not dull enough to don’t know the word, I just think that a joke about drinking is suitable for every situation
September 12th, 2008 at 1:27 am
I totally agree with you!
Phireo
September 12th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
If you should read anything while waiting for the next Berserk it’s Vagabond, a very very nice Manga. I think it would appeal to most berserk-fans.
September 13th, 2008 at 4:26 am
This is fu&*ing ridiculous ! it’s been almost 3 months, yes, THREE MONTHS, the whole summer ! I can’t bear any more, I’m going crazy x( if this continues I’m going to begin the university year by killing my classmates with a big sword in frustration
September 13th, 2008 at 7:31 am
Don’t kill your classmates, impatient Berserk addict… Read Vinland Saga and the other aforementioned manga instead.
September 13th, 2008 at 7:48 am
I just remembered that except the last few releses there is one rule I’ve noticed a while ago: as soon as number of responses to the newest post on EG reaches the number that the newest berserk chapter has – the chapter comes out. So my thesis is: by spamming we can bend time and space! If it fails we’ll try our luck with colliding hadrons.
September 13th, 2008 at 8:19 am
Unless you are a major fan of drawings, I don’t see how this guy can draw people’s attention as their favorite mangaka for very long. Stuff like Vinland or even better, Ubel have much higher consistency ratings. The drawing style while different, is fundamentally the same in the gore and kill way. The only huge difference is that Miura wastes time detailing ten thousand soldiers in a two pager with his damn ink pen while the rest of them just move on.
This guy however is pretty smart if he wants to leave a legacy. Looking for quick fame or cash, this is definitely not the way to go, but if manga is still popular as it is now decades from now, when shit like Naruto has ended, Berserk > most of everything due to the high level quality of drawing. After all, I don’t know anyone so far that actually likes reading mangas chapter by week or chapter by month. We all love reading it all at once or in big chunks. Just look at the first two volumes. I know there’s lots of you just like me who totally thought Guts looked weird, but the drawing style grows on you and with that, so does the atmosphere and what not. Stories are meant to be read through in a go or so, not waited on for each page like we are doing now.
Only reason we can’t wait is because now that we’ve caught up
there’s no way we can resist every time a release comes out. Or is there anyone who is willing to go I’LL SAVE THIS FOR TWENTY YEARS. Surely that guy’s gonna get the biggest enjoyment out of all of us.
Oh, and the story plot sucks. Anyone who thinks otherwise is on crack. It’s the little intricacies per chapter that pair up with the fine art that attracts. Or do you honestly believe a story about a guy who got betrayed and now holds a giant sword fighting a god-like entity is very original and awesome? It’s like saying that movie 100 or something had a better plot than Dark Knight simply cause it was more epic in battle.
September 13th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Now that’s a cool theory
. Just… 231… responses… to go…
September 13th, 2008 at 9:46 am
ok, well krazyivan has a point
)) it’s a pretty funny theory thow. But just in case it fails, i’m buying a plane ticket to france
September 13th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Hang in there everybody! I’m sure something epic’s on the horizon.
September 14th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
@Crush-Zombie
if by epic you mean a chapter finally coming out with nothing but useless dailog that no longer gives depth to the plot or characters, like the other 200 chapters, but instead is a clear attempt of draggin this out for money reasons as long as possible I’ll have to agree with you.
By the way I can’t seem to find any information on Gantz, whats that manga all about?
September 15th, 2008 at 3:39 am
Guts[LCF]
It wouldn’t hurt to keep some of the bashing to a minimum, maybe keep that to yourself.
I like Berserk, not as much as I used to but I still enjoy it. But you won’t see me going around bashing it because I like other mangas more. Maybe keep your opinions to yourself.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
The problem with berserk is that it seems a little boring and slow when you read it a chapter a month and really dynamic and cool when you read a volume a day. At least it works for me that way. The second problem is that you can’t wait for a new volume and download the chapters because you cant stand the thought that there is any amount of berserk that you have not read yet. Anyway this may lead many people to a conclusion that the story’s quality got low. Just do a re-read of the whole series and you’ll see that you were in error.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
About Gantz (plot summary from animenewsnetwork):
Plot Summary: Somewhere in Tokyo, there is a room. In that room is a black sphere. Periodically, people who should otherwise have died are transferred to the room. There, the sphere gives them special suits and weapons, and sends them out on a mission to kill aliens here on Earth. While these missions take place, the rest of the world is largely oblivious to them. These missions are lethal – few participants survive them. The sphere calls the shots, and it’s not the slightest bit nice. Its name… Gantz.
In other words: just read it!
Find it here: http://www.stoptazmo.com/
September 15th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
@Merks,
Wtf are you talking about? I never bashed Berserk so don’t know who’s post you read but you’re in the fucking left field alright.
September 15th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
@Ultra Lucky Cat
dude…..you made my day! Thanks for posting that. I couldn’t find crap on animenfo or network, then again I just gave up smoking so I did give up rather quickly I’m sure then throw a chair at my brother. No because of cigs tho…he just looked like he needed a good chair in the face.
BTW I saw some people recommend Claymore and I’d have to completely agree with it. The manga has rarely stopped and been boring (maybe a chapter, 2 is a stretch) and the anime is AMAZING. It’ll mess ya up like beserk did. The ending in the anime is not the same as how it takes place in the manga, slightly different. But apparently the manga is starting to get to the point where they may start production on a season 2 of the anime. Rumors tho so don’t hold your breath. Also, claymore is a 1 release a month manga, but typically the 3rd/4th of each month is when their released.
September 16th, 2008 at 12:31 am
about claymore… it was good, but i really think it was overrated. but then again i never saw the anime and only read the manga which is usually better. i found all the characters looked alike and the fights (in the beginning, they got better) were quite dull. still, not bad but i don’t see what all the hype is about.
vegabond was awesome and i totally agree with JG. it follows Miyamoto Musashi’s life although it’s totally inacurate to what actually happened it’s a lot more interesting. it’s about 200 something chapters and my friend flipped through it in 3 days. really easy to get into. but nobody is translating for it. there has been four chapters out already and i can only find the raws. i need to learn japanese.
anyone here read Basilisk? that one is really dark and i recomend it. it’s like combining naruto with berserk except it’s better than you would expect from what i just said. it’s about two ninja clans that are forced to go to war with each other and nobody really knows why but they jump on the oppertunity anyways. the leaders from both sides are in love and they are pitted against each other regardless. only 34 chapters long but i highly recomend it.
after reading and enjoying vegabond you should read Sidooh. two hundred years after musashi and it’s about two brothers that become samurai and… that’s as far as the updates have led me lol but they’re frequent.
Anuki was good. about a mercenary fighter pilot that gets in between a war with two contries and has to choose a side. unknowing that one of the sides has his father in it. it’s been completed but it can be hard to follow and i had to read it twice to get it.
AIKI is a fun manga if you’re getting bored of this serious crap. about underground martial artists. it’s just all round enjoyable.
and further more i’ve been told repeatedly by many people to read gantz and hellsing. but i don’t have the free time that i used too.
September 16th, 2008 at 2:12 am
@Harold
(Claymore) You actually find out why they all look a lot of like (you think they do in the manga, it can be even more challanging to distinguish some in the anime lol) and its pretty cool why.
(Baslisk) I never read the manga but watched the anime (I do agree manga is typically much better) and wasn’t too impressed. It was like Ninja Scrolls only not so hentai and with a lame ending. Although each member in each clan do have really cool techniques/fighting styles. My personal favorite is the guy who can control his density and move in and out of earth elements like walls/ground/trees. This is mainly because he isn’t merely a “stealther class” but also uses it to mentally confuse his opponents. Story wise I’d give it a 2 out of 5 stars. Combat/action scenes and originality a 5 out of 5 tho.
September 16th, 2008 at 6:42 am
So noones translating Vagabond? Damn shame. One of the best mangas out there in my book. (Evil genius got room for manga to translate?
)
Gantz is a great manga as well, it’s sort of twisted though, and the last chapters lost alot of pace, but hopefully it’s drawing towards a conclusion of the series. (I like it when Mangas eventually ends)
I’d also like to recommend reading Thorgal, which is a comic book series by the Belgian writer Jean Van Hamme and the Polish graphic artist Grzegorz Rosiński. Don’t think they’re easy to find in English though.
Aww man. Now I wish someone started scanlating Vagabond, how can a great series like that don’t get worked on…
September 16th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I discovered 2 manwhas you guys should have a look at, because they are both awesome so far
- Jackals
- Chunchu
September 16th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
@ultra lucky cat: is the artist good at drawing girls? and is there alotta boobs?
September 17th, 2008 at 7:02 am
Haha, not these series no. But Gantz has plenty of boob action if that’s what you’re looking for. The Gantz artist is indeed also the inventor of the bouncing-speedtrail-nipples-drawingtechnique™.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Followed your recommendations and started reading Vinland Saga. Very good manga. I’m halfway through the released chapters.
September 17th, 2008 at 10:50 am
As for Claymore, the anime is actually better than the manga. Also the drawing is quite poor in the manga.
September 17th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Well, I’ll just add my two cents. Gantz is one of the stupidest manga I’ve ever read! The artwork is very good but the story is totally retarded! I’ve read Claymore till now, just to wait for Raki to come back, and now I’ll see if he can do anything good or not. But probably he won’t even be at Isley level, so another manga goes into the toilet, cause I’m not interested in women warriors. Blade of the Immortal is boring! The best thing of the manga and the anime put together is the opening song of the anime.
September 17th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
If you want to read a great manga, try Gintama. It’s obviously different from the kind of mangas which people were suggesting here, but nonetheless it’s better than any of them! The anime is even better, because the voices are great and the artwork is as good as the manga, if not better.
September 17th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
any boobs?
September 17th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Monster is also a reallllly good one.
Also, most anything by Tezuka.
September 18th, 2008 at 4:07 am
Jackals isn’t special from the 9 or so chapters so far. Rather ZzZzZ since the art is clean yet not as korean style beautified (UxU BUDDIES) and yet it doesn’t have enough fan service and what not that keeps Ubel Blatt a contender.
:] Though Berserk is like, pretty much a bi-annual thing for most of us, one has to wonder if Red Eyes will EVER be updated. Like WOW, did that series just DIE? By far the best military manga >.> as far as action went, even if the characters were HELLA UGLY. Even Berserk can make the girls look decent, but Red Eyes just failed.
Oh and I finally read Blade of the Immortal. It’s like, supernatural Vagabond, without the discussion of warrior ways and sword paths and techniques and what not, but has a better story to make up for the boring biography of Musashi. However, the anime was TERRIBLE. FIRST EPISODE and I couldn’t stand it halfway through. You guys remember Berserk anime? I mean, it was OKAY for it’s time right? Sucks now right? Well Berserk anime was better than Blade of Immortal anime. Like wow. Dark as shit, bad voice acting, no gore (Yay japan censorship), absolutely no visuals of the fights. You can literally take those 1994 batman drama bubbles and plug them in the middle of a fight, because it’s SO DAMN DARK and NOTHING HAPPENS.
CMOONNNN BERSERKKKKKK >.>
September 18th, 2008 at 5:11 am
I don’t know what is going on either but I would rather prefer quality over quantity also. If he needs donations I would be glad to contribute something I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am sure that contibutions from as much people that like the anime and manga would be monstrous. And I hope that if does make the second season that he would be able to get the same voice overs, and keep the anime somewhat similar not all F(&*ed up like when most 1st anime series are GREAT, the sequals suck a&^ (3×3 EYES) which was a slap in the face to watch the second one but…
September 18th, 2008 at 5:32 am
For me the best 2 mangas is:
1.) BERSERK – Guts, Caska, Monsters, The Story and a lot of blood – this manga is just THE BEST MANGA.
2.) One Piece – The Story is realy fun; the Characters in the story so far are great; They have a lot of different abilityes – This one is the SECOND BEST MANGA.
September 18th, 2008 at 6:03 am
Gintama? One Piece? Why don’t we just mix in some Power Rangers, Pokemon and Hello Kitty to make this absurd joke complete. ;D
But seriously; I’m handing you nuggets of pure 24 carat manga gold, which your primitive digestive system seems unable to comprehend. And the outcome? You toss your own manga fecies at everyone in the room. :p
September 19th, 2008 at 5:07 am
@ultra lucky: Oi, you high and mighty expert of good mangas, I took a look at jackals. It goes like this : Irrelevant speach, slaughter, irrelevant speach, slaughter, etc. And it’s one of the gayest manga I’ve ever read! That male jackal is alway half nacked and dressed as a prostitute, while all the girls(real prostitutes too) are always fartoo much dressed! And by the way, if you can’t appreciate a manga if it doesn’t contain slaughter, then you have some serious problem.
September 19th, 2008 at 6:01 am
I’m not an expert of manga at all (Found it all through others recommendations), but i fail to see the relevance of a manga obviously intended for young kids(Gintama) when most forum users here are just in need of their next fix of Berserk.
And yes, part of the Berserk experience is paved with gore, slaughter and violence.
But if you’d rather see some kids riding a giant cat, Gintama is for you. ;D
September 19th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
THAAAAAAAAAAANNNKKKK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU SOOOOOOOOO MUUUUUUUUUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
September 19th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Battle Royale is also highly engaging.
September 20th, 2008 at 2:14 am
@ultra lucky: I don’t really think that Gintama is intended for kids. It’s completely different from the usual shounen mangas. I repeat, just because it doesn’t contain gore, it doesn’t mean it’s for kids.
One Piece too is a good manga. Actually it seems more common to find good stories in shounen mangas than in seinen ones. It seems like many seinen authors are retarded who just put random gore all over a stupid or nonexistent plot, and that’s seinen for them. I’m obviously not talking about something like Berserk, which is the best manga I’ve ever read. But Gantz, Bastard, Jackals, etc. all have a stupid and uninteresting plot! Blade of the Immortal is better, but I find it boring. Zetman instead is interesting, so I could say that’s another good manga. I recently started reading Vinland Saga, it seems interesting, but I’m still at the beginning, so I can’t tell for sure. I’ve started reading Vagabond, but it seems boring till now.
September 20th, 2008 at 5:42 am
We can agree to disagree then.
However i suggest other people here to check out the series themselves and make up their opinions. Most can be read here online, including said Vinland Saga, Gantz, Gintama, Jackals etc:
http://www.onemanga.com/
If, for some reason, you are prepared only to give one more manga a chance, then please let it be the amazing UBEL BLATT.
September 20th, 2008 at 6:58 am
Ubel Blatt sucks..
September 20th, 2008 at 7:02 am
Ubel Blatt seems really interesting! I’ve read just the first chapter, but the author seems to take a lot from Berserk’s atmosphere and style.
September 20th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Aaaand yeah… This is still not a forum… and just to be on the topic… I am waiting for Berserk… never had the chance to read Zetman, I am too busy right now, but will surely read it one day… as for Angel Heart… I just don’t have the guts to read a sequel of City Hunter with one of my favourite characters gone… so I think I will pass on that one too.

Okay, what has it been, more than three months?
Can someone check and make sure that Miura hasn’t been pulled into the abyss?
I’m not going to try and spin my longing for Berserk into a whine/bitch festival, but does anyone else here feel as if the manga/anime selection in the U.S. is stagnant at the moment?
Aside from the great classics, there just doesn’t seem to be any new quality manga/anime hitting the stores in the U.S. I can’t get into the Korean manga, the art styles tend to drive me a bit over the edge. Foreign manga is just meh. New/recent manga coming out of Japan seems to be rapidly produced situation/romantic comedy with iffy plots and simple art styles.
I guess it’s the Berserk dilemma; the only thing that sates my desire for a deep, Lovecraftian-esque manga are either the classics (NGE,Berserk,Trigun,Blade of the Immortal, etc…) or my own manga designs, which I hardly have the time for.
MIURAAAAAA!!! WHERE ARE YOUUUUUU!
(Sorry for the random outburst, berserk hiatus syndrom T_T )
September 20th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
I can’t even play as the Barbarian in Diablo II without thinking of Berserk.
KHAAAAAAAAA… I mean… MIURAAAAAAAA!
September 20th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
In all seriousness though (or as serious as I can be, which, honestly, doesn’t amount to much), does anyone else feel that the U.S., if not other nations, are going through a state of anime/manga recession? Can’t go for the Korean manga, non-Japanese manga are just meh, and new manga from The Source are either low quality or the stereotypical situational/romantic/harem comedy (I’m lookin’ at you, Ken Akamatsu <_< ). Whatever happened to deep storylines/artistic styles comparable to Berserk, NGE, Blade of the Immortal, etc.?
Then again, it may just be that Berserk has forever altered and heightened my expectations of other manga and anime to impossibly high standards.
Without Berserk, I only have my own manga ventures and waiting for the NHL season to start. Oh well, better than NHK.
Venting session complete, sorry for that; Berserk Hiatus Syndrome is taking its toll on me.
September 20th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Sorry for triple posting here, I will retreat with my tail between my legs, but perchance might anyone here have episode (chapter? it’s how it’s listed on Answers.com) 83 of the manga, the translation from the ORIGINAL, unedited Shin’ennokami chapter? I need food for speculation.
‘Tanks me bradas, one love!
September 21st, 2008 at 2:51 am
I’ve devoured Ubel Blatt! Now I can’t wait for the next chapter to come out, shit!

when or how can i read zetman chapter 96??
September 22nd, 2008 at 5:12 am
I want Berserk
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:49 am
What, you know something I don’t? you better spill the beans Ivan!
September 22nd, 2008 at 11:56 am
He is definetly alive. Although he works alone in a house, secluded from the rest of the world, the magazine people check on him, he goes out for a walk every once in while or the occasional shopping when he doesn’t order by phone… he has also quite some friends and is possibly in contact with them with a computer…
While in the U.S. it is possible for someone to be found dead in the appartment a month after he died… Japan is not to unwelcoming!

You have a pretty good writing skills. Nice blog. Add to my reader!
September 22nd, 2008 at 1:30 pm
I know where Miura is!
He’s drawing/drawn the Vinland Saga!
I just checked out Vinland Saga’s homepage; my God the drawing style is similar.
Has Mighty Miura been cloned?!!
The world may never know.
Curse you Makoto Yukimura! I wanted to be the first person to successfully mimick Miura’s style.
September 22nd, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Sweet Jehovah, I just saw the Vinland Saga art style and it is oh so very similar to Miura’s.
Has Mighty Miura been flash cloned?!
The world may never know.
Curse you, Makoto Yukimura; I wanted to be the first person to successfully mimick Miura’s art style. You win… for now…

September 23rd, 2008 at 8:27 am
I thought some of you might like to know that there IS going to be another series on par with Berserk, I know because I am producing it. I have been writing it for several years and spent until 2007 in pre-production. Now in 2008 it is being animated. It will also be out in book form.
The animated version is kind of a cross between an anime and manga style. I have been inspired by Miura’s work over the years but at the same time, it is not a copy of Berserk, and it is not some ninja series. It is something completely new, as you may have guessed not Japanese and I understand if people have their doubts but I think you will find it a breath of fresh air if you are concerned about this genre being stagnant these days. This is not some amateur effort.
But you will have to wait just a bit longer before I reveal exactly what it is…
Don’t worry I will respond here again.
But having said that, I am as impatient as anyone else here for the new Berserk chapter.. moreso for him to just get on with it and finish up the current battle and get back to what we all want more of – Gutts and co. It’s enough to sometimes make you wish Miura had a LITTLE more of a public life… keeping a blog or giving a few more interviews.. something to let us know every now and then what his plans are.. or that he’s not dead…
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:32 am
Is it true what you said about miura? Does he really live that secluded?
Did Miura ever mention he was also working on other projects besides Berserk?
September 23rd, 2008 at 1:38 pm
I still want berserk !
September 23rd, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Speaking this here might be like spitting at the church altar; but i wish Miura would get some help finishing drawings more quickly. Just someone to help shade the drawings would speed things up dramatically. Of course it has to be someone very skilled to keep up with the master…
And yeah, finally on subject: Zetman is awesome! Started reading that too and it’s pure gold. Keep em coming evil genius, good work!
September 23rd, 2008 at 3:44 pm
acording to the wikipedia miura is working only on berserk
September 24th, 2008 at 7:48 am
wow. He is working only on berserk? Dedication I like it.
Just wish he would speed up. ->_<-
I would like it if the next few chapters were all about caska in elfheim getting cured.
I’m sure the fight between ganishka and crazy griffith would be fast and epic. Griffith will definently own. He can’t be touched by ganishka. He’s the hawk.
An evil fucked up twisted little white Hawk……..
September 25th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

@ Someone,
Are you talking about what people SAY MIGHT be the release date? Because I don’t think it was actually announced.
In other matters, let us take some time to reviw berserk and its awesomeness. I’m gonna go and re-read some of the chapters and experience that struggle all over again.
September 26th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
@Someone : That’s just what the majority of people at that site has guessed would be the next release date. So it has the same importance as if I said the next Berserk would come out tomorrow, that is none at all. We’re still inside Hell!
September 26th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Exactly Marte.
Hell
September 26th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Yeah later in the day I figure it out too(about what people SAY MIGHT be the release date)
September 26th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Is Biomega still being translated? If so does anyone know when it is being released?
September 26th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
yeah I can see how you are confused. Blackswordsman has it posted that it will be 41 until the next chapter of Berserk comes out, but i don’t understand why they did that because it is not an OFFICIAL release date. so idk what is going on with that.
September 27th, 2008 at 7:02 am
thats strange, didn’t trick me though since i’m looking up theblackswordsman daily to check for news so i saw the contest befere the relese date on the banner.
September 27th, 2008 at 9:18 am
@Krazyivan –> Ah ok. so weird how blackswordsman did that.
I still have no idea what the prize will be.
I wonder what moves and abilities ganishka will have. Does he just move and breath fire? He has those tentacles. SO whats the deal? For some one like griffith, who can fly, not be touched by weapons, and use a wind fast rapier, this seems like an automatic win for Griffith. Ganishka must have some super move to blast on griffith.
September 27th, 2008 at 11:43 am
Well… Griffith has a body now… so he CAN be touched… and what can he do with his fast rapier… when he’d have to have a sword at least ten meters long to just actually hurt him… remember? Ganishka is HUGE… he kills thousands just by walking! Anyway… wish ya all a calm and pleasand wait!
Phireo
September 27th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
well Griffith can’t be touched by any one who has tried to kill him so far. remember when the arrows were shot at him and they all missed? And if Griffith can fly his sword can pierce ganishka because he can just fly up to his face (faces) and rip them apart, as long as he stays clear of the fire breath.
September 28th, 2008 at 1:54 am
well, has griffith even really fought anyone yet? except of course for the occasional rapier through the head i don’t think he has. he just orders his apostles to do things for him. i think he’s going to start off with that and have them all mowed down by ganishka. what i want to know is will zodd survive? also, will griffith become femto? and then after everyone sees him as femto will he just kill all the witnesses or will he give up and just conquer the world with demonic powers? this is the worst time for a break in the series.
September 28th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Griffith has fought zodd, ganishka as a human, and stood up to a legion of troops and archers who have never benn able to land a hit on him through miraculous circumstances.
The Fight with Zodd ended with Griffith flying and cutting off Zodd’s horn. The Ganishka battle was weak. He just stood there and some how miraculously griffith made his move, won the duel, but let ganishka live to fight another day. WHAT THE F***!!!
There are so many ways this story could go at this point. I still want to know if Elfhiem is real, can caska be cured, and when is Guts gonna make his awesome stand against Griffith? Thats all I care about. And the Skull Knight. Because the way things are going, the more we find out about skull knight, the more we find out about Zodd. Which is probably why we know squat about either of the two. Because we havn’t been told much.
September 28th, 2008 at 10:46 am
Griffith Hass fought Zodd, Ganishka as a human, and stood up to a legion of troops and archers. He won the duel with Zodd by flying and cutting off one of Zodd’s horns. The Ganishka duel was weak. He used his miraculous sword wind holy powers. idk.
There are just so many ways this story could go. I totally forgot about Femto. that has to be his true form now. I wonder if he can revert back to femto at any time he wants.
September 28th, 2008 at 11:00 am
yeah, but keep in mind that:
a) Zodd << Ganishka
b) Ganishka << Ganishka Super Sayatsu Mega Hatifnat form
So it probably won’t be a walk in the park. On the other hand, since the source of all apostle power seems to be the God Hand the result of their match seems to be easy to foresee.
September 28th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Yeah I think your right Krazyivan. The Godhand can just switch off Ganishka’s powers at any time, thus probably Returning Ganishka to a worthless mass of flesh.
But I wonder if Ganishka has the power to resist the power of the Godhand. Maybe they wont be able to switch off the powers of ganishka so easily.
I would love for the godhand to finally show up again. Every time they do something crazy happens.
September 28th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
All in all I think that the unpredictability of this manga makes it superior to others and we’ll just have to wait and see.
September 28th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
True, KrazyIvan. Unpredictabiity of berserk is key.
September 29th, 2008 at 11:36 am
But unpredictability of release dates on berserk is torture
September 29th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
I don’t think the unpredictability is cool or an asset.
I think it drags on way too much. I feel like stuck in time.
The anticipation, the excitement dies off like a flame on a candle. That’s too bad.
September 30th, 2008 at 7:25 am
You read berserk – you should know better – life is pain.
September 30th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Exactly. Such is the reason why i can compare the two. ANd because I read berserk, I can conclude that Accepting pain is no better than accepting death and giving up.
September 30th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Another manga you might wanna give a chance: Shamo.
And quit whining so much, it’s not gonna get you Berserk any faster.

Ultra Lucky Cat may be right on this one… but I’ll do it once again just in case: WHIIIIINEEEEE!
September 30th, 2008 at 10:19 pm

No berserk yet.

shamo!?
October 1st, 2008 at 7:18 pm
I’m hoping Miura’s slowdown is he’s working ahead, that way we can have some regular releases for a bit. Doubt it though.
October 3rd, 2008 at 4:39 am
maybe he’s working on multiple chapters and wants to have a few done before releasing them. like it was stated earlier, berserk seems to be much more interesting when read in chunks as opposed to singular chapters.
February 18th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
