Rape in Tenjo Tenge

I don't know if this subject belongs in this forum, if not, then moderators, please move this.

Has anyone else noticed that half the sex scenes in TT are rape scenes? TT isn't a special case either. Rape seems to be prevalent in other japanese works as well. Why is there such a fixation on violence against women in certain mangas/anime. Is the subjugation and suffering of women through forced sex accepted in Japan? I'm part Japanese myself, but this is one aspect of my culture that I've never understood. If anyone has any insight, please enlighten me.

does it disturb you?
maybe its just a cultural thing? you dont see that sort of stuff on american/canadian TV because of the bitch-ass censors but it doesnt mean its only prevelant in japan... its probably more accepted in japan in terms of it being a viable way of expression [in media] which allows it to be shown

Yes it does disturb me. To me consensual sex=good, rape=bad. But I'm not gonna say it should be censored. Even if I completely abhor the subject matter, I don't condone censoring it. But you're right, just because you don't see this material in the US/Canada doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Can you really call it a rape?

In most cases i see they seem to like it ( at least in the end )

But i see your point because many times they seem to be raped and violated

But mostly i only see the rape scenes in the manga nearly never in the anime( if you look away from hentai)

I went over some scenes in my head (The manga is on my HD, but I'm too lazy to check it all) and I think in Tenjou Tengue, saying half the scenes are rape is a bit of an overstatment. The only case I can really think of is Chiaki getting raped by Ryuzaki(Sp?). Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not saying it is definitviely the only scene, but the only one that comes to mind as being full sexual intercourse unwanted by the female. I can see your point about it in general. It is kinda odd.

And MoFo, there is a reason you don't see it in anime (besides hentai). Because of the limits a TV station or network can have they, cannot show full on intercourse. It's like "Skinemax" porn you see late at night on... well... Cinemax. No show on TV (At least in the US) no matter how late can show actual intercourse without some kind of liscense or something, or having it as Pay-per-view of some sort. They can show breasts and bumping & grinding, but no actual sexual organs in the act. Berserk is a perfect example. In the manga, the scene of Casca being raped is in much greater detail. You know for a fact that Femto is doing the nasty with her. In the anime it is more implied because of the lack of seeing the actual acting being performed (insertion and whatnot). Berserk was a TV show in Japan, and as such, even though it was on super late, still had the sex rules applying to it. It's the same reason that sex scenes in movies are done like they are (at least in the US). That is mainly the difference between R movies and NC-17 movies (Except in the cases of like OBSCENE amounts of violence).

Sorry if this grosses people out or is considered too graphic. I tried to keep it clean and be mature about it.

Well, the mangaka used to draw ALOT of hentai stuff if I recall, but I don't read TenTen much either. That's probably one of the reasons for the excessive nudity, and for the fan service. If it disturbs you, don't read it. I don't read it because I didn't really follow or like the story, and the whole manga's basically for fan service, and it makes it an 'illegitimate porn'.

The sex scenes and rape doesn't really concern me, and it's not the reason I don't like it. There's sex scenes in alot of other mangas, and I don't really care much for it. Gantz has a lot of shit like that too. I wouldn't blame it on the culture though.

I also noticed that in japan many men seem to like the fantasy of taking a woman against her will and still making her enjoy it. We discussed this topic concerning rape in berserk, too, and I must say I don't like it, either. And it's not only in manga, japanese porn has the same kind of ideas.

I think it's a symptom of the stressed out japanese male needing different outlets. Not to say that japanese men really condone rape, it's more a fantasy of getting a girl to have sex with you (and enjoy it in a twisted phyical way) even if she doesn't want to. I don't think only inflicting pain would really turn them on. (To symptomise this the rape victims nearly always become wet in manga/porn, while in real rape I think it'll be a pretty dry fuck.)

well they really did a world record for raping girls in world war 2.

Well, Japan's gonna rewrite their history and say that they didn't invade China, rape their women or went into a mindless killing spree. Nope, didn't happen according to their history books.

I don't want to talk about too much about that though...

Well, I thought TenTen has excessive amounts of sex for a manga. But hey, I'm not really complaining

. If it had a decent story I may have continued reading it.

On a related note, it was all teh sexzing that turned me off Gantz.
The whole damn manga is like fan-service on speed. While I do kind of understand the whole (i.e. I get that people might like it) "Oh look, nudity and gore!" approach, it does get very tedious after the fifty-third time you've Oh looked at the naked women and exploding heads.

I've heard of this fantasy before too. It must be because of all the sexual repression found in east asia. Some of my relatives in Japan can't even talk about sex.

However, the women in TT who are being raped are obviously not enjoying it. So does that mean in addition to the fantasy you presented, there are also rape fantasies as well?

Dizzam, you're homegirl is kinda kinky. But ask her what her what she thinks about rape (guy/girl stuff) in manga/anime. I'm curious to see what a girl's opinion on all of this would be.

Not reading a manga just cause there is a rape scene in it is not right...

I mean in TenTen when Chiaki gets raped it fits the story well and if they do it good it can be good for story.
