Favourite Game Series

Post by Shade »

Bored so... I figured I'd make a cliche gaming topic...?

What are your favorite gaming series and which particular game in each series is your favorite? To prevent any confusion, if there's more than one game, it's a series. Final Fantasy, Zelda, stuff like that.

You can go with current favorites or all time favorites or both.

I liked the Persona (Megami Tensei - hoped I spelled that right :? ) because of the dark plot.

FF was good too, each game has its flaws and qualities.

Mario?

2 as the best of the series.

I think it will be a long time coming before any other games can top my love of this series. Everything about the universe, characters, history...I just can't get enough.

err... >_>

Megaman - I have been an avid megaman fan ever since I got megaman II on NES. I currently own all NES titles, all SNES titles and quite a few others. I just love the story that has developed over the years. If I had to pick a favourite character it'd have to be Bass for his double jump ability! But I love the megaman zero series so Zero has my heart too. But who am I kidding X!!!!! X is the best in everyway.. I was so very stoked when I got the Haduken. I didn't read up on it, I found it on my own and was amazed to see boss die straight up... but it made the game a lil boring so I had to keep its use to a minimum.
Fav: Megaman X and Megaman Zero III

Metroid - Much like megaman I love Metroid in everyway. Samus Aran is awesome. I currently own every game in the series (except the Nintendo DS game >_>). I actually started like this before megaman II. I got them both and a few other games for christmas one year and played them one after another. The original was hard but I kept at it (like with each game til I conquered it) I must say though, it was a shock to find that Samus was a girl. It even says in the booklet "he" and "his". Anyways long story short. great story, great gameplay.
Fav: Metroid III and Metroid: Zero Mission

Wonder Boy - To be honest I didn't go much on the first game. It pissed me off that sega ripped of adventure island and I hated it. But when I got wonder boy II it all changed. It whips ass. Such a skillful game series and packed with secrets. Another fav
Fav: Wonderboy III

Seiken Densetsu - Not much to be said other then I freaking love it and have since I first played... All five games (except Legend of Mana) are awesome
Fav: Secret of Mana

Final Fantasy - I didn't like it how each game was a different story because it kept me wondering what happed to "those guys" but I can't just not like a perfectly awesome series. Its a fav for sure
Fav: Final Fantasy VII

Breath of Fire - One of my favourite series of all time. I thought the first game was kinda cool and I had money to burn so I brought the second which is still one of my fav games of all time. Stories like that deserve an anime series..
Breath of Fire V - Dragon Quarter was crap! I mean yeah it was awesome but I think it should have been in a diff series or something. All the other games had a continuing style and story and it was just wrong to add that.
I still played it through but its story < BoF II
Fav: Breath of Fire II

Soul Blazer - Series includes Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia (Time) and Terranigma. I thought the series was awesome... infact i'll have to start another Terranigma file again someday.
Fav: Terranigma

Tales of Phantasia - I could never find this game and one day on the net BAM translated rom. A fav series if the ever was one. I am currently playing Tales of Symphonia through a second time. GC version > ps2 version
Fav: Tales of Symphonia

Lufia - I actually got Lufia II before Lufia I (which was ok, hence L2 is a prequel). This series was great... all up til Lufia IV which turned it into pokemon >_<
Fav: Lufia II

Zelda - nuff said
Fav: Zelda III or Zelda: Wind Waker

Killer Instinct - One word... Jago
Out of the astounding 4 games made i'd have to say my fav is
Killer Instinct on Snes

Mortal Kombat - Another word... Scorpion
Fav: Mortal Kombat: Deception

Resident Evil - When I first played this series I was freaked out but kept playing anyway... it was too good.
I don't go much on Survival or Zero though.
Fav: Resident Evil: Directors Cut

Parasite Eve - Just like RE except Square made and with a crazy story. I loved it too.
Fav: Parasite Eve II

Silent Hill - This series was great. I love horror/thriller/shocker stories... I am currently stuck in Silent Hill IV - The Room though >_<
Fav: Silent Hill II or IV

Mario Bros - I finished my fair share and enjoyed it... still playing em even now
I played sonc after and thought it was awesome but I never owned a sonic game other then the first one. After collcting every issue of Nintendo Magizine system and playing more Snes I started to leave my old sega behind..
Fav: Super Mario World

Donkey Kong - Donkey Kong 64 = Series death
Fav: Donkey Kong Country

Alex the Kidd - What a challenging game series
Fav: Alex the Kidd in Miracle World

Kirby - What can I say... except sorry lol
Fav: Kirby's Superstar Deluxe or Dreamland III

Damn, the list is long. And full of great game series. I can't believe I forgot Zelda, one of the greats. Resident Evil too. And Mortal Kombat was always what fightging games shoudl be like. Blood, Fatalities, Animalities, the list goes on and on. I haven't played the newer ones yet. But I remember by the time you got to Trilogy they had like 10 finishing moves a peice. I think everyone had two fatalities, a babality or somethihg, animality, the pit(and other assorted background related ones) and I am pretty sure there some more. That was what made the games worth playing. Had to do every death move.

I don't think they're ever gonna finish the Shenmue series. When i first found that out, i was pissed. I played the first two games back when the Dreamcast was still alive. Then i waited years for the 3rd game but it never came.

The Zelda series has been consistenly good and I'm actually playin the Master's Quest now cuz i got nothin else to play. The upcoming game looks like it's gonna blow the rest out of the water.

Yea and Halo's always fun to play, especially when i beat all of my friend's asses. I only consider a couple of my friends to be actual threats.

I have lost all respect I had towards you. Mortal Kombat is one of those completely shitty series that should be eradicated from the face of the planet. Not to mention the fact that it's the reason why "loving parents" are so bitchy about violence in video games.

And I'm not talking out of my ass here, I used to play the SNES Mortal Kombats and I now regret it. I recently played Deception as well and I almost puked. If you want a good 3D fighter go get Virtua Fighter 4 Evo, or even Soul Calibur 2. I hear Tekken 5 is pretty good too, even though I don't like the series myself.

As for my favorite series, I'd have to say the King of Fighters series, along with Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter (the 2D ones) and Zelda.

I have not played it since trilogy. I have no clue how good any of the new ones are. The old ones were great. New ones not so sure about. I don't really care for fighting games anymore. I don't think I have actually really played any 3D ones if that hints to how long it has been since I played fighting games. Just I used to love Mortal Kombat. I probably would hate it now, since I don't care for fighting games anymore, and I think I liked it when I was a kid because of the things that parents hated about the game. And you eventually grow to stop liking that shit.

I rest my case.

The fact that you call pull fatalities of the very end of the match doesn't make the game any better, specially when the fatalities are so tasteless. You get tired after seeing them so many times anyway. If you want a good fighter with fatalities, play Samurai Shodown 5 Special. The gameplay is a hundred times better, and it has fatalities that are much classier. Not one Mortal Kombat is great, and I don't see how people can say that when games like Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter exist.

In the end though, you shouldn't worry about what I, or anyone else thinks about what you think of Mortal Kombat. I'm sure someone out there might be able to point out how KOF is pretty much the same game year after year, even though I would disagree. Any KOF is still better than MK though... :D

(That's probably the first smiley I've ever used by the way...)

Thats why in my second post I was saying I may not like it anymore. Don't care for useless violence without gameplay. But I don't care for any fighting game now. Somewhere along the way I just stopped enjoying most of there gameplay. Hate FPS too now. Mainly only play RPG games and sport games.

You did say the old ones were great though, and that's what ticked me off. Don't worry though, it's just a personal thing of mine, I really despise Mortal Kombat. If someone were to make a "worst videogame series" topic, you can bet your ass I'd cast my vote against Mortal Kombat.

Let's leave it at that, I don't want to discuss Mortal Kombat anymore, which is why I'm not even thinking of replying to Buzkashi and his "OMGWTF!!11! F@+a1337eeZ r t3h r0XXorz!!!111!1!!1!!!!"

Dont be a hater. The fatalities where a way to taunt your opponent after you beat him. Similar to , in Streetfighter games, knocking there body in the air and continuosly hitting it after they lost, or humping in Halo.

Nope you're mistaken, there were two released for the Dreamcast. It's just that the second one never made it to the US cuz the Dreamcast was dying i think. Anyway, I downloaded a copy of the version that was released in England or something.

GTA is another great game series. Probably like san anrdreas the best, though the original two with the overhead was great. Just pointless addictive fun.

The original 2 had no story what so ever. The later three had some story, but not as much as most RPGs. I generally only like story as well though, but I make exceptions for GTA. Been a fan since the first GTA. Mindless fun. Cool soundtracks, etc. But they do have a story, just not as devoloped as something you get from Square.

I usually make exceptions for party games. And sports/fighting games. I want to get Fight Night round 2!

Sports games are just great period. Good for having friends over, and in general addictive. Since I am in college I love some good ol NCAA football.
