So back in 1938 Orson Welles narrated War of the Worlds as a radio news program and caused a nation-wide panic.
Back when I was in college I assembled something like 42 individual wav clips into one contiguous clip and ripped it to MP3 - a several hour process back in the day. I then promptly lost the work to a hard drive crash two weeks later.
But joy of joys, someone has done the same thing and now War of the Worlds is available in MP3 on the web. Rejoice and be glad.

I'll be sure to chcck it out when I get home. Does it let you hear scenes of some of the panic that happened because of it?

Well you hear the panic - but it's staged panic. This is from the pre-TV era... so it's kind of like a docu-drama... like Supervolcano or Category 9 - The End of the World....
Essentially, it's a series of news reports delivered as if the events depicted in War of the Worlds were really happening in the 1930s. They cut to reporters in the field (at least one of which, if I recall correctly, dies rather badly) - analysis on the air - generally a really convincing radio report.

oh man ive been wanting this for soooooooooooooo long. Ever since i read War of the Worlds when i was like 8 or so, my dad told me about how it was read over the radio and people thought it was true. There was a radio station that reads stories at like 9pm forgot the station but i heard a reread version and ive been always trying to find the orginial.
