This may have been yesterday's news or something, but I was just browsing in websnark out of sheer boredom when I read this:

There are two certain individuals that are questioning Gabe and Tycho's motives for raising 82 thousand dollars for the Childsplay charity.

Someone paid 20k for appearing in webcomic strip. ..

Something is wrong with the rich people.

Apart from that, I can't say anything that hasn't been said in that thread already. Except that those two douchebags gave it a good humour value.

Except that he DONATED it to a charity. Tycho and Gabe don't see one cent of any of the money that Child's Play makes. This dude gave 20K, and while he most likely did it due to the prize of getting into the strip, he gave that money to charity nonetheless. If that is wrong, I don't want to be right.

It's not wrong, but there are lots of charities that don't see that kind of money. Child's Play is populistic, and that's why it's getting the money.

Y'know what, I never realized how big Penny-Arcade is until today. They get corporate sponsors like Microsoft, AMD and Nintendo! They have their own convention!
That's freaking crazy. Especially considering their comic often makes fun of those very corporate sponsors for their utter lack of regard to their consumers.

Well, Gabe and Tycho, despite getting sponsors from various major companies and corporations, are not millionaires. A successful webcomic, yes, but far from millionaires. I wouldn't be surprised if a millionaire donated 82000 US bucks to a charity. I remember Tycho stating that he was abused as a child in one of his blogs, comic, and I think in an interview too. Maybe that's one of the reasons why they established Child Play.
