Kingdom Hearts II (this one is for you Buz)

Post by Femto »

Tron world in KH2: http://www.jeux-france.com/images0_4_13187.html

It's really great that SE is not restricted by Disney guidelines anymore after the success of the first game, and it's great to see that they're putting so many more worlds like Halloween Town where Sora and party actually change to fit the environment. I think it adds a lot to the game and it's great to see these characters really become a part of their worlds by changing themselves.

As far as worlds that change the characters are concerned, we have the Tron world, the Lion King world, the Steamboat Willie world and there's another one that was pretty big that I don't remember at the moment. It's all good to me.

This game has been delayed for too long, I need to get my hands on it now.

EDIT: I'm sorry if I'm less than coherent in this post. I rushed it and I have less than 5 minutes to take a shit and get to class.

;D I bet the one who's most into kingdom hearts would be lord mune ^_^. I, personally haven't played the first part yet but im planning to. The question is though, doesn't it get too kiddified with all the disney characters? Or do one get this comfy feeling when playing it?

Brings back memories because it doesn't change the stories of the disney worlds much. They just add heartless but keep the original story and it's very serious if you read all the ansem reports.

I normally go here for my kingdom hearts information.

Kingdom Hearts and KH: Chain of Memories are the worst games ever.

Their respective ending cutscenes are the best ever, though.

I hate Kingdom Hearts as a game, but I love the story. :\

You don't think the gameplay is cool? For years i had found myself wondering why game developers werent making RPGs with true real time battle systems. I knew a game like that would kick ass. Most RPG's just have the standard turn base system with a few twists. Then finally, Kingdom Hearts came along.

I'm not saying I was completely impressed with the game in all of its aspects, but it was pretty damn good.

Of course I am.
It just happens to be what I think- it's an awful game gameplay-wise (although I found it to be a lot less painful the second time around) and story-wise right up to the end. After the ending, it ranks on the top 5 of the best games ever list. Not for the Disney- and Final Fantasy-whoring bundled with bad planning and an awkward engine that was the actual game, but the original Square properties contained within it.

Jerk.

I put that disclaimer in my first post for a reason. Image

As for Mune, again, why even bother posting here if you don't like the game? And don't give me that "to create discussion" bullshit.

Your constant trolling is pissing me off. If you don't like the game then stay the fuck out of this thread or post something that doesn't make you look like an idiot. You did the same thing in the Shadow of the Colossus thread, didn't you? The fuck is wrong with you?

Heh, yeah, about time you changed it. I was counting the number of seconds that you would take...

I think it's fine that Mune's posting/trolling in this thread, frankly, we have too little activity in these forums anyway. I like to see some balanced opinions, why hate/love it.

I played Chain of Memories for the GBA, and I have to say, the gameplay was unique...but not appealing. If it wasn't for all the rave reviews for the PS2, I probably won't touch it. There are some elements that I didn't like and my low attention span quickly irradicated my desire to play further on the game. I have to give it a 6.5/7 out of ten for that one. It was an above par game, but it didn't appeal to me as much, perhaps I had too high expectations on the entire franchise based on the PS2 version.

I'm not saying that you everybody has to like it or that you cannot post here if you don't, but there are ways and ways of doing things.

Why not act like a normal person and just say "I liked the ending but I thought the game in general was subpar" or something like that? People might ask why you think that way if you did and it would incite discussion.

When you just barge in and say "this shit sucks" you're not looking for discussion, you're just being an idiot.

If you'd care to read my post, you would see that I do love the game, but still have issues with the layout and planning of the stages and the game engine in general. It is my sincere hope that KH2 will address these issues. Ergo, I did not just say "this shit sucks", but I also provided a minimal background as to why I dislike the game, hoping to elaborate on this should someone agree with me/ask me why.

I think you're contradicting yourself here a bit... On one hand you create this "appreciation thread" (with some text that could easily have fit in the gaming news thread) that is destined to die after everyone has had their say of "I like Kingdom Hearts and can't wait for the sequel". On the other hand, you say the forum is dying and create nonsense threads to "revive" it.
Femto wrote:The fuck is wrong with you?
If only I held the answer to that question...

In other news, I not only liked the ending, but the original Kingdom Hearts characters and storyline. However, I also think that the game suffered from poor level design and the imported Disney and Final Fantasy properties.

I don't have a problem with people arguing or discussing about stuff (I've stated many times that that's what a forum is all about) it's your constant trolling that pisses me off. Why the hell did you say that it's one of the worst games ever if you liked it? It's completely idiotic and the logic behind that fails me. It seems like you just want to piss people off to me.

Re-read my previous posts, I've said the same things many times before. I don't make the rules here nor do I have the right to tell you how to act online, but it'd be nice if you created discussion instead of bitching about everything. How can you expect a serious reply or any form of discussion from "lol ico lol artistic"? Do you really expect people to "elaborate" from that kind of posts? How many replies did you get from that Ico comment? Again, how hard was it to write something like the example I had in previous post? I would've gladly discussed the finer aspects of this game with you if you had bothered to type it in a more civilized manner, but you completely ruined any chance of that happening.

I don't see or understand your contradiction either. At least I'm creating threads for people to post in, even if they do contain little in the way of substance, it's better than trolling every random thread I stumble upon methinks. Both of your examples are saying the same thing too (me creating thread for people to post in) so, again, I don't really know what you're getting at here.

BTW, this is not any sort of appreciation thread, how can it be when the game is not even out yet? KH2 is still months away and there have been a lot of news reports about the game lately and, being the major release that it is, I thought it deserved it's own thread. That's all there is to it.

Femto: I think I may see what you mean. I don't normally act like this, and I'm afraid the only explanation I can think of is that the two other forums I regularly visit have become increasingly overrun with n00bs and flaming idiots as of late. My attitude on these forums reflect this, and some may have been unintentionally carried over to my mindwerks posting. If I now annoy you so utterly, I'll try and tone it down a notch- just for you.

Many of my points still stand, though.
Kingdom Hearts is simultaneously one of the best and one of the worst games I have ever played.

Thank you for not being a close minded retard like pretty much everybody else in the interweb.

Now we can talk about KH properly. :D

It's been a long time since I played it, but I was never bothered by any of the issues people complain about. The camera was functional enough for me and the gameplay was pretty solid and fun. Can't say the story did a lot for me, but I thought it was just a fun and enjoyable game. Nothing too serious, nothing too deep, nothing too cheesy, it was just solid fun. The main character was a nice change from Tidus (the last RPG I had played), the fact that it wasn't turn-based was awesome and it was very charming visually and aurally.

I should play it again sometime to see how it holds up now.

Thank you, as well.

I never really had a problem with the camera, the platform jumping and the exploration- IMHO, KH excelled in those areas. However, the combat got very repetitive very early on, especially as I was stuck looking for Donald and Goofy in Traverse Town for an obscene amount of time. Being constantly gang-raped by Shadow Soldiers is not as much fun as you'd think... The battle system became a little more bearable with Donald and Goofy, and an additional bit more bearable when Sora had leveled up sufficently to actually do damage.
I still find the battle system to be lacking depth though, something KH2 will change- or so it seems.

The planning of the stages irk me though; it just seems Square got thrown off by the third-person action/adventure/platforming nature of KH- the level design often feels disjointed, and I do not know how much time I spent just running back and forth across the level hoping to trigger the next cutscene the first time through. KH is a much better game when you know where you're supposed to go.

I dunno, I should really play it again to see if the combat and level design is that bad. It never really bothered me the first time.

Anyways, new trailer with crappy quality:

I never really found the level design to be that big of a problem. I did get lost a few times trying to figure out where i was supposed to go but that didnt bother me too much. It's better than it being linear. If it were linear, you would miss out on some of the feel for the worlds you visit. Since it's non linear, you get the feeling that the world is big and is all around you. You also get a sense of realism cuz, if you were actually thrown on some foreign world, you would get lost very easily. It's not like someone's just gonna come down out of the sky and say "go that way". We're lucky that the worlds in Kingdom Hearts are relatively small since that makes it easier to find your way. I'm probably not explaining this as coherently as i should but i hope you guys get the jist of what i'm saying.

If the battle system is repetive in KH, what about other RPGs? In turn based RPGs, you constantly rush through many battles just mashing the A button to make everyone just randomly attack by themselves when their turn comes or make one person do a single attack that kills everyone. Is that not repetitive?

That said, i do hope they enhance the battle system since it can potentially be a lot better/more refined.

Haha, Stit- holy shit, is that Selphie?
Pete's and Axel's voice actors are not bad...
Must say I LOLed a bit at Pete's "dareda omaera?!".
Also, it appears you start off in your old clothes, which is rather strange considering I distinctly remember Nomura stating in an interview that the game would start with Sora in his more... emo clothes.
