PS3 Thread

The PS3 launch plain sucked, and Sony is paying dearly for it. It makes me wonder why Sony wanted to release the PS3 so early, most of the good games weren't going to make it at launch (some were a year behind) and they obviously didn't have enough consoles to start selling on such a big market. It seems that the only reason to do such a risky stunt was to beat Nintendo and the HD-DVD format all at once.

Practically nobody owns or wants to own an HD-DVD player or a Blue-Ray player at the moment, so how can they make Blue-Ray sell more than HD-DVD? Easy, they install it into the PS3; that way everyone who has a PS3 also has a Blue-Ray player and would easily out sell HD-DVD players very early into the race. The other enemy to beat was Nintendo, who they planned to beat only by releasing the PS3 a few days before the Wii.

The PS3 had a rough start, and Sony has a lot of work on their hands, but I wouldn't consider it to be the worst console yet. If Xbox was able to outsell the Gamecube years after its release, I don't see how the PS3 can't do the same considering how much more influence Sony has on the gaming market with the PS2.

I see a lot of potential on the PS3, but I'll save my money until more good games start coming out (which will probably be around June with Ninja Gaiden Sigma).

Ohhhh embedded video! Nice I like! Nothing about FFXIII(damn its getting annoying to write all those I's and X's) going multiplatform is concrete. 360? Maybe. Wii? Highly unlikely, unless they switch to the FFIX graphics engine(cheap shot I know, its a ps3 thread m>__<m).

That guy is totally rad. You can't get haircuts like those these days.

The problem with PS3, is that they spend so much developing it that they are selling the consoles for the loss. Surely the games that come out will compensate for it, right? Partially. Many game developers have stressed the cost of developing games to complement the next gen hardware. That means there's hardly any room for error. If they invest heavily on a game that runs on these hard core hardware, and the game bombs, they make a significant loss. I do think that's why there's not many games out for it. The launch list for the PS3 games isn't so impressive right now. There's nothing out that'll get me interested in it, unless there's some type of FF7-like game that'll revolutionalise it (again).

I still love my Wii. I still enjoy Wii Sports alot when playing with my mates. Simplicity, cost effective, and fun.

That is the norm except for Nintendo. i was surprised they even dropped the price of the PSP, it sells well and they were making a profit on it but now I don't know.

In other news, Xbox360Elite launches this Sunday, furthur expanding Microsoft's inventory and accessability. Not to mention the lineup of games the 360 has going for it. Halo 3, Call of Duty 3, Project Gothem Racing, FF13. Hate to say it but Bill Gates is doing it again. The quality, affordability, 'Live' network, and quantity is making its mark. Think of it this way(for all the Bill Gates haters)for the 360 to be @ a 400$ price range isnt just because its lower performance/lower hardware specs than the PS3. Think of it this way, if you buy the 360 your getting a little bit of Bill Gates money...

Yeah this is the wrong thread.

When he says FFXIII he probably means that the Fabula Nova Crystallis group of projects(6 of them) aren't exclusive to the PS3 but we all knew that when it was annouced. We don't know where the other three projects go because Haersis and Disseda(maybe) haven't been told on where they will be. The report of FFXIII going to 360 was a little mistake when they meant to report on the Fabula Nova group not being PS3 exclusive again obvious.

His post is off topic, but I just wanted to comment on it a little. You're saying that the Xbox360 elite is a great buy because you're "getting a little bit of Bill Gates money", then the PS3 is an even better buy because you're getting a better deal from Sony. The Blue-Ray player alone is about 1,000 dollars.

Still, it is a null point on both sides since you still have to pay them a lot for their product and doing something like this is a very common occurrence in business, so it's not out of the ordinary. You're not getting shit from Bill Gates, or Sony for that matter.

I'm sure everyone knows that Ken Kutargi, CEO of Sony, has resigned. I know, this piece of news along with this was posted on other forums too.

Also, the new 'Playstation eye' sounds pretty cool. Sounds like it'll cost an arm and leg, though.
