Ayanami got his copy in the mail yesterday and a few of us played it for a couple of hours before "House" came on. I pretty much agree with Darken's take on it. Even I can tell the animation is bad in this game, and that's saying something. I mean Christ, Raoh's cape has litterally two frames of animation. TWO. And yeah, the music sounds like it was nicely done but the quality of the sound is just off, partly IMO because in the sound edits Voices and SFX are at level 100ish and the music is at almost 60 (Out of like 150 or something) so that was changed in short order.
Even with those going against it I managed to find the game very enjoyable. I already know I will end up liking it more than I do Guilty Gear. It just saddens me that the game had so much potential in many different areas and Arc Works just got sloppy. I guess it was taking up too much of the time they had set up for the 18th reiteration of Guilty Gear X2.
Points to Ponder:
1.) I know Toki is a top tier character. I've seen videos, I've heard people's rants about him. Playing him and watching the others play him I just don't see it. I mean, Shin, Raoh and Rei's abilities are very apparent after a match or two. This guy has to be the least intuitive character in any fighting game I've ever played. But alas, someone in our group is going to learn him, and bust out an infinite combo, and all Hell will break loose.
2.) Why is completing (Or better yet, comboing into) a Fatal KO perhaps the most gratifying thing I've ever done in a fighting game?

I play as Toki, Raoh and Ken. I can see why Toki is top tier. He can dish out so much damage in such a small amount of time. His dash super is so easy to link at the end of a combo. Only thing that sucks about his is that I think his fatal KO is easy to escape from.
But yeah, every time I get a fatal KO... it get my chest pumping man. Especially when I do one with Raoh or Ken. I think it has alot to do with the music that plays when I'm executing the move. For some odd reason I love that song.

I suck at the game, combo in to any fatal is nigh impossible for me. But I will tell ya what I have seen.DarkenRahlX wrote:How do you combo in Fatal K.O.'s? Every time I try to it always does the HK+HP attack instead.
It has to do with learning to combo the HK+HP attack with what ever ya got going on. Once the opponent is flying against the wall, he can't do shit, and you can bang him up against the wall multiple times with certain attacks. All ya gotta do is bang them against the wall once and land the Fatal really. I just have not found an easy way to combo the HK+HP yet.
Hope that helps...

I was thinking the same thing. Even though the affromentioned quality issue is there, that song is just so Goddamn epic it doesn't even matter.DarkenRahlX wrote:I think it has alot to do with the music that plays when I'm executing the move. For some odd reason I love that song.
As for comboing into Fatal KO's, if what I've seen for Japanese Tournaments is worth anything, the safest way to do it is to do a move that wall bounces your opponent and follow it up by boosting right up to them and doing the move. Also, I put it into practice mode at AYanami's and was able to combo into Rei's KO with just low kick, punch, FKO (I was up in super-close, sexual range though, so it probably only works there)
If it helps at all, here's a Japanese Tournament vid (2 Parts) I found on YouTube. The video quality isn't that great and the announcer/crowd is annoying at times, but you can see some great combos and strategies (Like how important comboing is for Souther when it comes to taking off Stars). The Wall Bounce-->FKO is there mulitple times, in fact in the first match (Souther V Souther) you see one guy do it wrong, and in the next match the other guys does it right.

The game does have air recovery. They were just trying to make things look cool. This game hasn't been released yet. Play testing will be going down this week and on April 30th.

Here are their finishers I guess. The game slowed down during the video capturing process for some reason.

All that I've heard is that the changes are "Minor tweaks", but I do think includes changing some of Toki's stuff, which is fine by me because I've seen a bunch of arcade videos of infinite combos he has. If that is the case it's not "nerfing" it's "fixing".Syoyohara wrote:Does anyone know if the ps2 version is a pure port because I hear that Toki might have been nerfed from the arcade version
