Contra 3: The Alien Wars for the SNES.

For some reason, I still find myself playing that game every once in a while. No long-ass RPG crap, just a short, extremely entertaining, old-school shooter.

There could be other games, but Contra 3 is the first one that comes to mind.

Super Mario Brother 3. My friend and I in highschool got down to beating hte game in less than 30 minutes, using whistles of course. Used to skip class to play it, but then again I skipped class for just about everything so that doesn't count.

All of the Civilization games, with Sid Meiers involed that is. Skipped class for Civ2 gold back in the day as well.

Anythign really really stupid, with no plot, made by someone out there and is free for download and highly addictive. I.E. Snood, Elastomania, any of those puzzle type games. Damn them all and there ability to fit in perfectly with procrastination.

One game. Two words. CHRONO TRIGGER!!

Sid Meier's pirates worked good for me too.

Tetris is definately one I overlooked. Key in the whole element of replayablity. So simple so boring, but somehow addictive like not tomorrow.

Eldo: So I am taking that the new one is worth playing than.

Thats one of the reasons Sid Meiers is one of the greatest game makers to every sit infront of a keyboard. He can make a game that has alot of freedom, yet is stil entertaining and capturing.

I had heard somewhere that it was easy. Too bad. Civilization were always crazy hard when you got hup the difficulty chain.

Yes and no. Diablo was that way for me. Played it multiplayer every day for friggin ever. Now Warcraft on the other hand I played so mcuh that I got tired of not just it but any game similar too it. I hated starcraft when it came out just because it was too like warcraft for me. But when I was playing warcraft originally I would agree with you. I played it every waking moment when it came out. Went through and beat it, both sides, and then woudl play over modem with my friend. Yes I remember modem multiplayer games.

Doom and Doom II had great replay value for me, and awsome multoplary, once again over the modem. 14.4 baby. I was hauling ass.

Yeah, the overhead levels is one of the only things that sucks in Contra 3. Konami didn't really have to put them there, they just wanted to show the SNES' Mode-7 graphics. It doesn't ruin the game though.

I'm still debating which game is "teh best shooter evar," Contra 3 or Metal Slug 3. I'm leaning a little towards Slug 3, but Contra 3 wins hands-down in the badassness department.
