The Official Music Thread

Post by Buzkashi »

I noticed that we lack one. And I didn't want to resurrect the older shitty music threads. Lets try and not make this thread like the old "What Are You Listening To" thread.

..

So yea anyways. The new My Chemical Romance CD comes out on tuesday. Though its leaked pretty much everywhere. I was never really a fan in the past. But all I was hearing was good reviews on this cd.

People were comparing there new sound to Queen and the impact it will have on music to Nirvanas "Nevermind". So of course I was going to check it out. So I downloaded the Album. And it didn't fail to live up to the hype. Its an extremely solid album. Tracks like "Mama" and "Teenagers" are extremely pleasing to listen to. Overall I wouldn't be surprised to see it go #1 on the Billboard.

a much better thread would be to reincarnate the pandora thread femto made almost a year ago. I've used that to give me musical pleasure the last couple of months, i don't dl music much anymore :?.

Radio station i listen to consists of the "genomes" of Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Kanye West (chicago wut wut), Soul Position, Blue Scholars, Jin, Sole, Talib Kweli, and Da Ranjahz.

for those of you who don't know what it is, basically they have mapped the "genomes" of artists and songs and when you input a song or artist, plays music with similar music in a quest to find you music that you'll like and might not have heard before.

also it tells you why it played a certain song and give you the opportunity to buy the song and find out the "backstage" behind it...so pandora is pretty fucking sweet so check it out

QUESTION!
Does the new CD come with a razor blade and black hair dye? :thumb:

Mudvayne- pure genius. Charged with atomic energy and agressive power and full of beautiful melodies at the same time.......I ` ve got the whole discography and there is nothin like the "mudvayne`s weakest album". Every single one of them kicks ass.

Static-X, - just pretty cool

Deftones- What can I say, it`s a classic..:D

Dragon Force kicks so muc hass. I kind of wish they used a different song for a video, like "Through the Fire and the Flames" or "Cry for Eternity" (Which, has a title that actually sounds like a My Emo-mical Romance song, but in fact rocks hard tastey abs, washerboard style.)

I have always been a fan of "Wierd Al" and from what I've heard, his new CD is some of his best and funniest stuff ever. I present to you, White and Nerdy (A parody of Chamillionare's "Ridin' Dirty"):

I have always been all eater aka ones that listens to any good song no matter the genre. But the last year i have become addicted to some genres. Even though i still like some songs in a genre i dont usually listen to.

Here are the artists that has made me focus on genres and made me narrow my music listening.

Jazz/Blues: L.Armstrong,Ellington,Parker,Holliday,Charles,Rosemary Coloney. The modern fav are Jamie Cullum.

Reggae: Gentleman,Jimmy Cliff,Desmond Dekker

Soul/R&B: Tracy Chapman,Alicia Keyes

Hip Hop/Rap: Immortal Technique,Nas,2pac,Missie Elliot,Most Def

There are some rock songs i like but those are classics everyone like.

About CD's i am gonna order Immortal new CD.

Here is by the way a link to Gentleman song that is sweet.

What the fuck is this? You must have messed up your linkage. It's been posted in the interesting links thread already (by guess who?). How is it interesting is debatable though. It's certainely not musical-related.

But that tells you one thing: Felony has a morbid attraction to cats.

I'm amazed at how much different we all are when it comes to music. Remember the thread «music to read Berserk by» (or something like that ) ?

anyway. Theses days I'm into :

Army of Flying robots (grind ?)
Isis (post-rock...)
Ion Dissonance (crazyness)
Giant Squid (post rock)
Nest (dark ambient with folkish stuff)
A bit of the Tea Party best of
NES/SNES remixes.
a bit of Ulver's Perdition city
and dark ambient/Neo Folk stuff.

I think My Chemical Romance are poster boys for a genre that has much more to offer.

heres something a little different. beats the shit outa my chemical romance imo :P. I love At the Drive-In, especially since it has a good deal of nastalgia for me. Mars Volta and Sparta are both pretty good as well

At the Drive-In

and here are some by the bands ATDI split into

Mars Volta - Televators

Sparta - Cut Your Ribbon

ya, bascially mars volta is a much more experimental version of at the drive-in and sparta is a more emo less eperimental version of atdi.

and here is something by explosions in the sky, one of the best instrumental bands i've ever heard and i've heard one of the best live bands around.

Oi, Mr. Felony, check this is the shit out.

Mournful, what's the dark/neo-folk music? Sounds interesting, since it could be easily translated into; Pagan music for the Dystopian Future. As for Post Rock, cool shit. Haven't heard of any of those bands, man - which do you recommend, and what could you compare them to?
My Post Rock exposure has been thin, listening to Do Make Say Think, Explosions in the Sky, Goodspeed, and Silver Mt. for a while now, just safely, but recently ventured into the likes of MONO & the world's end girlfriend, Saxon Shore, TOE, Te, and I remember at one stage this one like UPCDOWNC or some shit.

If BATTLES is considered Post Rock, then BATTLES would by far be my favourite.

There's a vast range of Dark ambient folk music. In the dark ambient genre, I like Sephiroth. There's futuristic/tribal moments as well as minimalistic soundscapes.

If you prefer more textured song, I enjoy Sol Invictus's The Devil's Steed. Sol Invictus is one of the most important Neo-Folk band.

Hagalaz Runedance in the pagan genre is great.

As for Post Rock. the album Panopticon by Isis is great. Australasia by Pelican ( abit in the same genre). Red Sparowes is good and a bit more into textured Rock song.and finally, Capricorns, wich is on the edge of post rock. It's really Stoner metal with post rock influences. Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy people is good too. Mellow post rock.

ya i agree to check out mogwai.

most of the music exploration i did when i did have time was into indie electro pop shit mostly out of canada like The Arcade Fire (actually got their first EP or w/e signed by them when i saw them before even had a hint of blowing up and were opening for The Unicorns), the unicorns, The cansecos, Les savy fav. try and listen to some Xiu Xiu, they're pretty experimental, not even sure what i'd catagorize them as if i could lol. half their shit i like and then half of it I'm thinking "yoko ono should have never fucked with the beatles"

Oh, bloody yes, I've heard some Mogwai... Young Team and that EP or single which had only one song; My Father, My King. They're pretty stomping, eh... brooding with a backbone.
Ah, that's real interesting, with the stoner metal/ambient. Sounds fucking interesting. I was never into the metal side of life, though my flat mate was, so it earned some decent respect from me as I begun to hear what it was capable of, Meshuggah, Behemoth, Mastadon, that kind of shit. I will have to look into some of those, rekindle a flame or two.

As for electro pop shit, haha, yeah... never really heard much of that before, eh. Xiu Xius' sounded pretty cool till that guy started singing. I don't know, haven't really heard any vocals which weren't screams, faded vocal samples, or rap for a long time now...

Head there, play the song: She Said.
