Thus begins the Mindwerks & EG Berserk Anime Marathon!
Here is the the first episode of Berserk. Enjoy and Discuss! If this is a success, then everyone can look forward to more episodes. Lets try to do this one at a time and as a group so we can all enjoy.
First off: Not bad. Out of context, I find it somewhat entertaining and the animation is also quite passable.
I've seen bits and snatches of the anime, enough to gather most of the similarities and differences with the manga. I've also heard some of the debate/criticism over the way the anime is shown/structured, especially the way it begins and the way it ends. After seeing this, I think I would have preferred a series that went in chronological order from the verrrry beginning, with an episode or three like that at the end. What say the rest of you?

are you gonna show all berserk-anime-eps now here?
- nothig against it, just curious -
another thing: well, after now (ep 3) it is getting damn colorful, more or less, with younger ppl, the hawks at their best etc..... so its only the beginning and the end thats so.... bloody and hard .... more or less......

If I can find them, then yes I will post them. I was thinking one per week, but who knows, I just wanted to test it out here first and see if anyone likes it.

Chronologically it goes just like the manga, it's just that the anime skips over chapters 2, 3, and parts of 4. It goes straight from The Black Swordsman/Snake Apostle story to flashbacks of the Band of the Hawk which makes up the lion's share of the anime. I always thought that the beginning and end were made as such in order to make it more viable to do a second season, but now that just seems like a pipe dream.
Oh, and would it kill ya to find dubs Psi? *runs from rabid, screaming anime fans*
If you read the manga, you would notice that it too does the flashback. Volume 1-3 are blackswordsman days, then the big flashback from volume 4 - 13 goldage arc, then there ya go.
The anime follows the same flow with respect to time/flashbacks, etc as the manga does, the anime just omits some key elements like 'puck', 'skullknight', and etc.
There was never a season 2 planned, Miura said he planned the anime to be like that so it would be one big commercial for his manga. This makes sense because the anime is purely about the golden age with bits removed that prevent you from moving on with the story with out really deviating from the manga.
Skullknight is the entire reason why Guts is alive, SK is never mentioned in the anime. That alone makes it extremely difficult to tie into a second season. Puck may or may not be detremental to the story line entirely removed, please correct me if I'm wrong in this.
One odd thing that I didn't notice before is one of the bar guy said "It's been like this since Griffith is king". Dunno if it's mistranslated or what. So either the Berserk intro is post-elfhelm (which I doubt), the animation (or translation) team messed-up, or Miura didn't see as far as we would like.
The King Griffith thing was invented solely for the animé, with Miura's consent, as to round off the very awkwardly cut-off ending of the animé. Puck was removed for the very same reason.
These are much better quality than the crappily encoded Youtube videos are. That is if the links all still work.

Steeples scrape the sky, Praising God.
Everything here exists for God, is sacrificed to God.

It can be a very heartless city indeed.
An episode a week. Tempest asking for a dubbed version. Everyone wondering if there was going to be a second season. People talking about what chapters the anime covers.
I think I got the jist of it.

Yeah, ya didn't get the point of the thread. You could have PMed me the info. The point of the thread was to discuss ep one, and present it in a format to be viewed in the forum, not to provide a link to wher yeou can download it.
nice ! , i had watched the anime like 20 times , the beggining of the first episode is like the beggining of the DreamCast game ( which was the one that introduce me in this fucking crazy world of Berserk! ).

Personally, this seems like a great idea to me. We've never really discussed the anime, and some of our members, poor benighted heathens that they be, may not even have ever seen the anime, so this is a great chance to correct both problems. Way to go Psi!
If Femto wants to update his quote so it doesn't have all the links then I'll just leave the link up for the first dubbed episode. I simply put them all up since once downloads on Megaupload go inactive, they're removed. So who knows; 23 weeks down the line the 25 link might not work.
But whatever, I'll just PM all the links to Psi.
