I think Guts used Zodd because there wasn't much else he could do. He had to grab hold of him to stay alive, and even if he had jumped off, he'd be S.O.L, cause the emperor wants him dead. Might as well take care of one threat at a time, right?

the legends say that he was killed many times but he always came back in the next fight.
If you cut his head,it wouldn't be enough,in my opinion;he can be weakened or beaten but I can't imagine him dying.
What are you talking about?

He's an apostle and apostles can die, as has been proven numerous times in the series. Griffith was able to cut one of his horns off permanently as well, so there's not reason to believe he can't die.

He may last forever, but that doesn't mean he can't be killed.

I swear, too many people lack common sense here.

He can't be killed cause in the real world,I mean not in dreams, noone is strong enough to defeat him(of course the Godhands can kill him cause they gave him his powers, but they have no interest doing it and I don't count them as real entities).
That guy won''t give up!!

Admire might be too strong word for Guts. Lets just say respect instead.

Also he is Zodd like in a way that he wanna beat a rival like Zodd in a battle. Not kill him when he is down like he is now.

No matter if you're immortal or not, the head is ALWAYS the killing blow. Just look at Highlander. Or, if you would prefer a Berserken example...the Baron. Even he said he couldn't die until his head was cut off...and Guts thanked him for that tidbit of info quite nicely ^_^

stafilo wrote:Zodd is definitely a great character. He is an evil apostle that has a code of honor and draws pleasure from a fight. For me, it wasn't a surprise this revelation about his admiration to Guts. Come on, let's review their history:
- 1st encounter: Zodd was gladly surprised because he finally met someone worth of a fighting, someone who stroke him a "fatal blow" that made him finally got into bloodlust!
- 2nd encounter: Zodd helps Guts defeating Boscogne, because he didn't want Guts to lose by chance. He wanted to meet and fight Guts once again. He sensed Guts would be the one being capable of pushing Zodd to his so desired bloodlust, and yet sustain the fight to a non-predictable end.
- 3rd encounter: The great fight on the hills, standing between Guts and Griffith, Zodd tested Guts. For me, it was there that Zodd's respect and hope grew up to an admiration. Standing in front of him was a man capable of surviving the Eclipse, one guy with a Will great enough to go beyond his fragile human body and grasp his own Destiny, defying the most powerful of the most powerful apostles: The God Hand

Yeah... this revelation wasn't a surprise for me after all... Even though he hates Zodd, I think Guts also respects him to the point of trusting him.

Now let's see what comes next...

Cheers!
Don't forget Wald right before the eclipse... Zodd showed up there too and saw what Guts did... right before dealing with wald.

Guts has a crazy sword that mows down apostles and the like. Because of its ethereal property, it is capable of killing higher class apostles, it was even capable of hurting the Kushan Emperor's thunder spirit thing. Maybe Zodd is the same as the Emperor in a sense that conventional weapons don't harm him as much as magical ones. Chopping the head off is a killing blow, for any creature, whether he is an apostle or not. Don't take the 'Immortal' part of it too literally.

yeah I always took the immortal part of it as people just saying they'd killed him and he shows up again... like he got bored and left and some guy wanders off to a bar and starts talking grand.

If Zodd wasn't Zodd I would say that maybe someone wounded him and he laid still till he fixed himself but I can't imagine any human getting in a better hit than Guts has gotten and we've seen Zodd tear apart apostles just for looking at him funny...

So while Zodd is not only almost impossible for a normal person to hurt its even more unlikely that anyone has dealt him more than SK and guts have.... especially enough to claim him dead.

Thus the immortality claim is more about long life and a battle rep than actual factual information about the character.

True that now, but back in the Golden Era both Guts and Griffith only had regular swords in the sense that they weren't etherly charged (kinda like Oblivion where you gots ta charge your magic weapons eh?) but they sliced Zodd's arm off with them. So I bet conventional weapons don't matter as much as the person weilding them. Adn about Guts' sword being the only thing that could cut the mist, that kind of confused me, I know Muira can't contradict himself as that would shatter reality so maybe the Dargonslayer was the only big big sword around...i don't know, now that I think about that it confuses me after all this talk of the Dargonslayer gaining power. But guts and Griffith sliced Zodd's arm off with regular weapons. Hmmm....maybe I should go back into my hole. ^_^

the head can be a sure kill against Zodd(it is not sure);anyway I still doubt that anyone else than a Godhand could kill him :
he can fix his arm in an instant,he is obviously more powerful than most of the apostle and some of the "average" apostles have magical capacities(roshinu was able to change childs into killer "elfs" and the count to transferate his strenght to humans);
that is why I think that Zodd can have some magical tricks that he never used, even vs SK or Guts cause he wanted fair fights vs them or because he never needed to.
That guy won''t give up!!

he is called immortal zodd because 1. he is rumored to have been seen on battle fields for 100's of years, and 2. he has never been killed. He is NOT called immortal zodd because he is in fact immortal. the title of Immortal was bestowed on him more so because he seems to be, not because he is. also im pretty sure that without the help of Guts, Zodd would have been killed by the emporer

While it's true that Zodd can take lightning, he took a lot, then proceeded to crash hard into the ground. Apostles may be strong, but they're living beings with bodies that can only take so much punishment.

True. Unless I missed something, the title of Immortal was bestowed on Zodd by humans, not by spiritual creatures. It ain't because he's immortal, but after hearing about the guy for centuries, what can you call him?

Regular weapons may slice apostles, but the Dragonslayer goes straight to the spirit of the being which is being killed.
That’s why I hate to speculate.

Yet it's so much fun XD
I REALLY doubt that Zodd's end would be carried out in that manner. He was shocked by massive amounts of lightning, yes, but he's a tough guy. Besides, I read the prophecy more as being a philosphical choice, like one that deals with where his loyalties lie, or his aims in his apostle life.

And I really hope you're right, and while I don't think Zodd will be killed by that, he really did take a lot of punishment.

Or if you're talking about the Emperor's lightning doing him in, that would seem massively anti-climatic. Also, I can't see Guts surviving the hit, but it being fatal to Zodd. Apostles are supposed to be able to take far more damage then humans, and Zodd has awesome regenerative abilities.

Yes, but Gutts wasn't the one who took the fall.
Last, if he died he should revert to "human" form, and he still looked like a giant flying bat in the last picture as he was lying on the ground.

I doubt if he died, he dies without getting a word out. He could very well just be dying. Dying because he was helping (for his own convenience, of course) Gutts. Wonder if that'd shatter Gutts' philosophy...

Nice avatar, Deadpool is awesome.

I think it's more likely that Gatts won't kill him because Gatts owes him one for the sword against Boscogne. It's always been Zodd trying to fight Gatts, not the other way around.

I don't know... I think they both respect each other. But there are differences between their personality. Zodd looks for a real fight, thus I believe he would spare Guts waiting for a chance to face him at 100%.

As for Guts, until now he would go more for the 'extermination' - I think. This recent even might change the way he sees Zodd: less like someone to hate and more like a worthy enemy.

Damn great chapter!!!!!

Nah if he really hated Zodd as he does most apostles he will kill him next chapter when Zodd is hurt but i dont think so cause Zodd is his real rival. You dont kill your rival when he is already down, you wait for him to recover.

I am grateful! :) Good job lads;)

btw do you remember that Griffith can not be touched by conventional weapons, since he resides not on this plane (episode when the reborn Griffith and Co first engaged battle with Kushians), but in this chapter its obvious that Guts can reach and maybe kill him..

Could be talking about Griffith.

Was a really good chapter. Not sure how this story can get any better now. I never thought when I first saw this series that I'd see Gatz riding on Zodd like a flying warhorse. That's a pretty leet mount to have.

I dont think she meant Griffith.

There is only one person that both cut him and he admires that we know of and thats Guts. Griffith is his master not by choice and there is no reason to admire him specially since he is thier god and not his equal like Guts.

Since he met Guts just after when she said that its clear who she was talking about.

to me, she was saying that zodd had to make a choice to fight his enemy or join forces to take down a greater evil.
and the "other one" just refers to the other party in her predication: that guts had to make the same choice as well in the same event.
