Im talking about the main hero(most of the time) abandonning his goal/duty/dream only to comeback more determined/stronger(depends on the situation) becuz hes drawn back to it by his emotions/enemies/destiny.

Well Im really more dissapointed than you are then, becuz this disapointement made me really bored in that match and I found it pretty lame. Yeah that match was disapointing in skills, this just makes me realize how much of a noob Ippo is.

I see what you mean. However while some manga use this string way too much, it's alright in HNI, probably because all the characters are well constructed.

Talking about cliche, I still would love to see Ippo snap, much like Takamura in his 1st title match. We've seen Ippo unconscious and making come backs on guts, but most of the time the reason was "I'm not done yet" or something like this. A little soft, I just would like to see what Ippo style would be if he was fighting on anger.

Whatever the opponent would be in big doo-doo.

I can see what you mean by the clichè but this time i can understand it cause for six years and almost hole his box career Miyata was his goal.

Still it was awesome how the old man told him he doesnt need a fighter that looks down on boxning like this and Taka was awesome with the paton pass comment.

I cant wait to see what happenes now.

Well shit. I have a feeling Ippo is gonna realise that the only way he can face Miyata is on the World Level. This will probably cause him to start going for the world title.

The thing is Date and co wanted him to go to the next level like Date did at the world stage and world title match. He didnt give him the baton to defend his title and thats all. I mean he havent even fought at Asian level.

I think Buz is right on the spot there.

No Libaax you misunderstood, what I mean is from Ippo point of view, Takamura's remark might be even more demoralizing. He tried to have him react to what he said, but it probably made the matter worst. Ippo might have think:"Yeah sure, that's why I got rid of it to fight Miyata without any afterthought". So even that doesn't apply to him anhy more, from HIS point of view, not mine.

Yeah Taka's comment was demoralising but its the best he could have said to him, cause Ippo will understand when he thinks about it harder that he didnt starts box cause of Miyata, he started boxning cause he wanted to become stronger just as Kamogawa said in the last chapter.

I think he will starts boxning again cause he will want to fight stronger people in the world stage to become even stronger which has been his goal from day even with Miyata and the promise.
He will relize that he was kidding himself for thinking he could have retired after his match with Miyata.

Argh! I hate when stories do this crap. Yes, it’s a good element to have in your story, and it’s not lacking in quality. However, the mood IS very demoralizing, and I'm actually fairly susceptible to stuff like that. Thus, I’m left feeling very demoralized over this manga. I agree with Kamogawa though, I wish Ippo would grow up already. I mean, it really does suck that Miyata is acting all weird now, but Ippo needs to keep boxing. Although, I’m sure he’ll be back so… I mean, I still believe they’ll fight some day. If they don’t, then I think that’ll subtract from the manga, IMO.

Also, to me it seemed that Ippo gave Manabu a different Baton Pass. The one that was given to him by Date was in regards to the world title. Whereas I believe the one that was given to Manabu referred to the national title. As in, Itagaki should inherit the title after Ippo goes on to the world stage. That was my take on it anyway.

Yeah that was my take on the baton pass to. I mean Date fought for the world title and wanted to Ippo to go after like he did,he wasnt talking about national title specially since Ippo was already jap champion then.

Yeah Ippo needs to grow up and hopefully he will do it soon.

Miyata has a good reason if you think more about that guy that made him lose focus against the korean fighter. Think about what happened beteween them and why he is fixed on the guys name.

No, I know exactly who Randy Boy Jr. is, but that shit could've waited until after his fight with Ippo. There's got to be more to it then that, or at least I'm sure hoping so.

I actually reread the baton-pass parts, both from Take to Ippo and from Ippo to Itagaki.

It was what almost like I thought before, and I know where I was misled: what you guys said is actually true, Date gave it to him in order to pursue the world. However, Ipoo seemed to have forgot about this part and only thougth about the japanese belt part. This is confirmed when he passed the it (I'm sick of saying baton, it sounds silly) to Itagaki. Seems like he need a reminder of what Date gave him. Takamura tried, but seemed to fail.

Ippo forgot what the baton meant as he forgets everything else and sees only Miyata fight.

Now his eyes can be opened again.

How do you know who he is, like why Miyata is stuch fighting him? It's very possible that this guy is the son of the boxer that beat's Miyata's father, hence "Jr".

maybe it's too simplistic.

Yeah, Randy Boy Senior was the one who ended Miyata Senior's career. I sure hope Miyata has a better reason then that to cancel his fight with Ippo though. I mean, he could've fought that guy later, geez.

I thought they had said his name when they first told how Miyata Senior had quit boxing, but maybe I'm wrong. I had pieced it together by the context clues, and a friend of mine who's read what all has been released in Japanese (he can read Japanese see) basically confirmed my suspicions. *shrugs*

Now are you saying that you just unloaded a *huge* spoiler, you of all people? Off with your head! :OWTH:

And Miyata has always been very particular with his dad and his style of boxing. THere must be a reason why this cannot be postponed. Plus if Miyata beat that guy he will probably, as Ippo, see his counter "evolve". Because as of now, he doesn's seems in a position to win.

The raws arent ahead anymore they even say in 724 to wait for the volume realeses if you want better quality.

About Randy boy since he challenged him Miyata cant say no to him and knowing how he much he feels about proving his father's boxning is a good one. I understand him fully and would also say no to Ippo and the promise that is only a couple of years old while he has been wanting to prove his father's is one that can win his hole life.

Have you read 724?

Good call, I missed it.

So it seems Date's word will reach him, and he will comprehend the signification of them. If he goes back on time, this card is going to be aewsome, will probably cover 3 or 4 books :D .

I used to look at the raws, but stopped because HNI is not one of these mangas where you pick at the raws and appreciate what's going on. Somehow it feels wrong so I have no idea where the raws are at. From what they say, they must be about 10 to 15 chaps behind, maybe 20.

I wonder who said his fist was light before and i remembered who said when you meantioned Date, i had totaly forgot about that time.

What do you think Date meant?

I think he meant that unlike when Date boxed he had his life and his goals put in his fists.

Ippo isnt like that, he doesnt put alot of him in fists like Date did cause except Miyata he didnt have any other goals and desires like Date when he hungered after the world title.

Well the journalist's take on that is that as a fighter advanced and succeed his fists becomes heavy, because they bear the weight of all the defeated fighters.

That was an image, but my take is that defeating a fighter improve Ippo's knowledge and skills. The Take fight was a typical exemple of that, hopefully the next fights won't be so obvious ("power-up" like). But it's true that all Ippo's fight made his fists heavier. At Date's time they couldn't match with the champion's history. Now with his constant maturation, he might become like that, as he need to challenge the world.

Overall it just comes down to experience and how you learn from it. And if you look behind, you can't help but think that the Take fight was also a mean to introduce this little drama and illustrate it. Again hats down to the author if it was his plan.

Yeah i remember that but what the reporter means i think is that Ippo is without a purpose right now , he doesnt have a big goal or anything.

He doesnt fight for anything atleast that what he thinks, that there isnt anything left now that Miyata isnt there anymore.

Its prolly some other thing she means but thats what i think.

She reminded him of his own personal goal that he could have (always had?), and also that people enthrusted him with. He never realized that before, that he also has a responsability for it.

Everybody acts in the manga as Miyata and Ippo will never fight. Their mistake was actually to have this encounter as a goal. If they pursue a world dream, then they are bound to meet right? This point has been left alone, I don't know why nobody sees it. As Takamura stated once, the path is straight but only large enough for one person. But hey, I'm all good with this development, I think now Ippo's mind will be on the world like it has never been before. His fists are now "heavy" enough.

Ippo always had a purpose, he just regularly lose track of it. But that's part of his personality (unike Takamura), and that's also what makes him strong in the ring, this single minded persona.

Personally I think that the manga will after the 1st round of the Miyata-Ippo's fight for the world title, whatever happend to Martinez. That fight will happen.

Damn it's too late and I don't make too much sense, nighty!

EDIT: 725 out

Heh i was right with his fists being light cause he didnt put in his goals and dreams in to them.

Its good to see that Ippo remembered his real goal that was simple to become stronger,it just now he has to fight the world instead national.
