it's essentially a matter of that most people take themselves too seriously... myspace is perfect for the twisted little egos of those fuckers... people who really are well adjusted and balanced...whether they have a myspace or not... are not obsessed with it.... has myspace grown into an unhealthy thing? i'd say for some people? yes i'd say it has... has it been just a place to put some bullshit up for people to lazy or lacking the skills to make a complex website? yes? but then again who makes a personal website anymore?

Originally myspace was a place for indie bands to get their band out there, to stick it to the man, bypass the RIAA if possible and generally promote themselves.

It wasn't until it turned into geocities that the slide down began. Yes, it is social networking on a large scale, but you know what? It is now in the hands of some of those most dangerious people in the world. Be careful.

Oh yeah, fuck foxnews. :P

edit: Found this, it applies to not just facebook, but pratically anything on the Internet based in the US.
"An article from the National Association of Colleges and Employers contains yet another horror story about a prospective hire's Facebook being checked — with a different twist. The interviewee had enabled privacy on his profile, 'ut, during the interview, something he was not prepared for happened. The interviewer began asking specific questions about the content on his Facebook.com listing and the situation became very awkward and uncomfortable. The son had thought only those he allowed to access his profile would be able to do so. But, the interviewer explained that as a state agency, recruiters accessed his Facebook account under the auspices of the Patriot Act.' How can a 'state agency' use the Patriot Act to subpoena a Facebook profile?"

I'm trying to educate, not preach. I may rant and rave, but ultimately it is up to you.

MySpace surpasses Yahoo

MySpace wouldn't be so bad if the pages weren't so poorly designed. Several jarring bright colours for backgrounds mixed with random blaring music and several megs of images to be downloaded is not fun.

Well i have a Myspace account cuz a few of my friends use it, though i rarely use it. I use LiveJournal a LOT more.
MySpace=bunch of random retards looking at my page
LiveJournal=only my retarded friends looking/reading my page

Bulletins on MySpace are horrible. It just proves how idiotic the masses are. People actually believe that if they don't repost so and so bulletin, that they're account will be deleted or they will get some added functionality to their MySpace account, etc. In general, many bulletins are used to spread false information and the idiots believe it.

Here's an Example:
MySpace wrote:freaky as fuck
1. Open up a blank Word document.
2. Type in Q33 NY in capitals (this is the flight number of the 1st plane to hit the WTC)(worltradecenter)
3. Highlight it.
4. Change the font size to 48.
5. Change the actual font to wingdings (1).

if this Worked for you pass it on...
For starters, there was no flight Q33 NY (duh). So everything afterwards is obviously fake. If you actually bothered to do the following steps; you would get some symbols, like two towers, a plane and a bomb or something. This isnt even the stupidest bulletin that i've seen passed around. I know the people actually believe this stuff cuz each person is supposed to leave their name and what they think. I even asked the person who had reposted it and he said that he thought it was true.

It still does help promote Bands and Concerts. It helps my brother get his name out there as well as some of his friends, who have appeared on local radio stations because of the tracks they got on their myspaces. Hell I wouldnt have known about Rock the Bells IV if it wasnt for Myspace.

Are you in a band?

If not, you should get the fuck out of MySpace.

i was only lumping those together because many things can be used as an escape from the "real world" why do some people bury their heads in book? why do some people play video games all day? why do some people browse myspace all day? different vehicles producing similar results, some just prefer certain ones over others. and i dont imply that browsing on myspace has the same benefits as reading hemingway for example...cause it doesnt...

That's like saying 'why do people slit their wrists?' You can't group video games and myspace together like they're a similar source of entertainment. There are groups of different people, sure, those who use myspace and those who don't. These groups of people play video games too.

i only lumped them together because of they are tools of escape, not because they are the same. if you read my post clearly you'd have seen that i differentiate the sources of escape. i asked a quetion that i provided an answer for. it was just given jeopordy style (you know answer first then the question).

What?

MySpace is not escapism, because it's not a form of entertainment. You're not escaping anywhere when you post stupid little messages or whore yourself out on the internet. It's not like playing a game about a kid in green clothing that slays evil creatures in a fantasy world.

well if it isnt entertaining (in a manner of speaking) then why do people spend hours on it whoring themselves away. myspace is a whole different realm practically that people can go to where friends will accept them and, sometimes, acknowledge them and where meeting people is as easy as clicking "friend." in many ways i see it as "being someone else" only that someone else is your virtual self. Im guessing the reason you don't think of it as entertainment is you don't believe that it could possibly entertaining.

Again, what?

You're nearing on babble here.

I spend hours whoring myself out at work but that doesn't mean it's entertainment for me.

You're just making up one silly excuse after another.

MySpace is not escapism.

es·cap·ism (ĭ-skā'pĭz'əm) pronunciation
n.

The tendency to escape from daily reality or routine by indulging in daydreaming, fantasy, or entertainment.

MySpace is not some sort of daydream, it is certainly not fantasy and it's not a form of entertainment.

MySpace is not escapism.

now lets think here for a minute. if someone lacks the ability to make friends in real life, especially if they are a girl who is slightly attractive or just not ugly, where could they turn to to fulfill this need? myspace allows many people who aren't necesarilly sociable in real life to turn to a relatively easy way of meeting people. myspace, imo, acts as a new sort of reality where people interact on a different level. people can say that they have 20,000 friends on myspace, they are loved on mysace, whatever. i just see this as a way to ignore real life and live in a "fantasy world."

EDIT: femto, if you are going to try and look smart by quoting a fucking dictionary, at least do a better job and make sure that you're atleast right. here is something from wikipedia that'll help clarify for you what escapism is.
wikipedia wrote:Escapism is mental diversion by means of entertainment or recreation, as an "escape" from the perceived unpleasant aspects of daily reality.

Escapism has occurred constantly throughout time. Some believe that this diversion is more inherent in today's urban, technological existence because it de-facto removes people from their biologically normal natures. Entire industries have sprung up to foster a growing tendency of people to remove themselves from the rigors of daily life. Principal amongst these are fiction literature, sports, films, television, roleplaying games, pornography, recreational drugs, the internet and computer games. Many activities that are normal parts of a healthy existence (e.g., eating, exercise, sexual activity) can also become avenues of escapism when taken to extreme.

In the context of being taken to an extreme, the word 'escapism' carries a negative connotation, suggesting that escapists are unhappy souls, with an inability or unwillingness to connect meaningfully with the world.
here is another take on escapism
http://www.altruists.org/ideas/psychology/escapism wrote:The term 'escapism' is reserved for those who take excessive time away from real life to the point at which they seem to be trying to escape from it. Traditionally regarded as extreme, escapism is in fact increasingly the norm for many people. In Japan, for example, the average household watches over 8 hours of television per day1.

Escapism is not defined by the behaviour itself but the motivation behind it. Anything from sport to fashion to sex can become escapist activities. Certain escapist options are socially accepted, such as consumerism and celebrity worship, others are not, such as recreational drug use. Modern technology has brought digital culture - television, films, increasingly realistic computer games and virtual realities that provide escapist experiences with huge degrees of immersion. Means of escapism have become increasingly varied over the past few decades, but fascination in details remains a popular one.
if you want me to go on and on and on with evidence that im right i will. but femto, you sir, are wrong.
