Does anyone besides me think that the non mainstream comics are usually some of the best comics? I haven't read that much American comics for fear that they're all gonna be like superman, big beefed up guys, so I picked up some comics that I never heard about, and they were some of the best comics I have ever read and spectacular art. They're called Y: The Last Man and Strangers in Paradise.
The greateest thing about these comics, to me, are that they actually potray human emotions realistically, their expressions and actions are not frigid like much of the manga I read. There's also plenty of action and fanservice to go around, plus a great story. Are there any more good comic series that don't have superheroes as characters that I haven't found yet?
Non mainstream comic titles

I don't think mainstream is really bad, but most of the mainstream comics don't really have just one storyline. They have a lot of other artists and stories and there really isn't an ending as far as I can see. The main reason that I don't like mainstream is probably because of the movies they make out of them.

To be honest. I think thats a really poor reason. But to each his own right.
I guess I should just pass on the suggestion then. I havent actually read it myself, but I have had several people tell me to read Powers. Dunno if thats to mainstream for ya.

Heh. Good call. I don't like eating bread myself though. I blame the sandwiches. Better read up on Watchman before it gets put in a movie format and becomes mainstream. Luckily, I read V For Vendetta before the movie came out and went mainstream.Femto wrote:Hahahaha.ryusenka wrote:The main reason that I don't like mainstream is probably because of the movies they make out of them.

Somebody lock this nonsense please.
Honestly, the thread/posts should be in the comics thread. Everything that has anything to do with comics belongs there and discussed, even the classics like TinTin and Asterix. So feel free to bring your conversation there.
And I want to mention that Y the Last Man and other Vertigo comics aren't really obscure titles, the titles published from Vertigo has won tonnes of awards, for real. They aren't exactly household icons like Spiderman and Superman, but they are popular comics with solid and strong sales.
