I thought all microsoft products were beta. *shrugs* We have officially rolled out Microsoft's Anti-Spyware tool to our clients. It is based upon Giant's software which was pretty good to begin with. It may be beta, but it is pretty decent, it has more than replaced SpyBot and Adaware.

I still keep hijackthis around for those pesky buggers that won't go away.

This download is available to customers running genuine Microsoft Windows. Please click Continue to begin Windows validation.
Is there anybody who should be worried?

Actually, that is incorrect. When they ask if you want to verify, select no. You can go directly to the download site and use the software.

If you can't verify your version of Windows, I can't really help you. That is your own fault if they ever enforce it. As I said in another thread, grab your ankles or tell MS to shove it and use something other than Windows.

I really don't care about spyware as much as I did before. Mainly because you can never stop it, but only minimise it. I fired the thing up (yes I have legit Windows, and no, I can't mail it to you :P ) but I found a liking towards Spybot instead. And I don't really like using programs (especially security programs like firewall and others) by Microsoft either. I guess they have to work harder to regain my trust in them (not like they care).

I dunno, been running Gentoo Linux for awhile now and haven't had any spyware. Of course this is ancedotle, but yes you can eliminate spyware. It takes the individual to do something about it.

Don't ever take the attitude that you "can't get rid of it, might as well minimise it's impact" defeatist attitude. Unless of course, you are lazy. :P

Note: Been spyware/adware/nastyware/virus free since 1995.

Heh, Linux and MacOS are free from exe files and other nasty viruses/spyware  . But I still wouldn't install another anti-spyware program in hopes of completely eradicating the problem. I scan my system about twice a week. If I wasn't a gamer, I'd already be running on a Mac. I used to scan twice everyday, and there would be some 'new' spywares popping up from nowhere. But now that I'm more concious of the programs and websites I visit, I already minimised the impact. *Hugs Spybot*

*laughs* That is good to hear. Yeah, we did testing at my work and have found that MS's new tool does a good job. Enough of one that we got rid of our Adaware and Spybot S&D. We keep hijackthis around for those pesky nasties that come in through un-patched IE exploits or someone's illegal (read forbidden) use of aim and such in the corperate environment.

Gamers are the hardest hit bunch of them all, they shell out insane amount of money to play games, and to be able to hit all the games possible, they run windows.

I would consider myself to be a part-time gamer. I have enough to keep me happy while I run Linux such as HL2, Morrowind, NWN, CS:S, etc etc... I just can't play the latest in greatest untill it is supported by Cedega or people like ID, Raven Software, and Epic release Linux native games. Doom3 was damn pretty and scary. ^_^

What I fear is that soon, the trial by fire will commence and people will start shifting their attention from Windows to Linux and trying to figure out ways to get people to install spyware on Linux.

Well, I think they'll trying to find a way to crack Firefox first, as soon as it hits 'mainstream'. IE is full of vunerable points, and is basically an open door. Gamers like me only cough it up with Windows because of the games. I did borrow NWN for the Mac though. Well, it didn't run  .

works well but it can't detect all, just keep it together with AdAware, Spybot + Hijiackthis - what the loss anyway? they're free and do not conflict with one another ;-)
i prefer spybot 1.2 version though, the newer 1.3 adds 2 much stuff into the registry.

firefox, ahem, is starting to show its vulnerabilities =D
heck, im usin it anyway, i just hate IE,
the 2 reasons im still usin win xp are for games and for my girlfriend comin over - she just can't use linux lolz =D

I have used Spybot, adaware and hijackthis. So far it has done a better job than the others. I like it.

Mircrosoft's is actually pretty good, probably because Mircorosft bought another company so they didn't actually do any work on it. Some cool features on it. I have also been spyware free for some time, I have used it at work.

What is with the whole MS hate thing going on here. Technology is always changing, something better will always be around the corner. Forget your loyalties and use what ever works best. Can't everyone agree that MS Antispyware is better than pretty much every thing else that is free? And it is only in Beta. Oh well, as ya do I guess.

I said it was pretty good. I only hate bad products, which is what microsoft genreally releases. I used to be anti-mac, but I am changing. I am looking forward to trying out Mac OS X for the x86 architecture. I can't deny that it is a solid OS.
