What absolute crock. They where in a hard group with the favourites and home nation in Portugal, the top team Spain and a very talented but as usual underacheiving Russian team(this was a group Greece was the so called shit team, and Russia, the 3rd team, was stronger then most other "3rd teams"). What happend? This little Greek team started out strong by beating the home nation Portugal, and advanced through the group with Portugal, leaving a top team like Spain 3rd.panasonic wrote:it was a pretty big fluke. if i remember correctly, all the good teams ended up playing each other, while greece got to face most of the weaker teams
Well, the playoffs now, which teams did they face and before they were crowned champions? Big and favourite teams in France, The Chzechs and in the final, yet again thumping the home nation and favourites, Portugal. Those are weak teams in your book? Well who are the strong teams then? Italy, Holland, England and Germany? The same nations that lost against the teams Greece won against.
I wasnt too fond of how Greece won either. But it doesnt mind one needs to act like irrational buffoons like most people who criticised them. Just because they had the nerve to win games on the pitch, against these so called top teams.
You prove yourself on the pitch, not due past acheivements and history, the big name players you. Many was so deadset on seeing these stars lift the cup, instead of wishing for the best on the day win it all. When this little underdog team won, all hell broke lose with most of those gloryhunting jealous moaners.
Too bad the greatest game in the world isnt predetermined, and the flashiest team with the big name players gets the trophy handed to them at the start, its not whats great about this sport AT ALL.
The only "valid" criticism they got was that they played defensive. Well duh! Defensive Football is football too, football isnt one type of football, offensive and beautiful football. Plus they played against their own strenght, they were a small team with average players, playing a system and tactic that worked for them.
If they played all out attacking football, or in any other way, they would have lost, because they couldnt compete with the best on that. But instead work hard and play a tactic that worked against these so called top teams. They played and worked like a team, and alot of teams should learn that from them.
P.S Hehe, Sorry for discussing a two year old europan cup in a topic about tomorrows(cant wait the 14 hours that are left!) world cup.

OMG!!! I´m with Spain, of course, and this time, it´s gonna be different people, because we have a very young a nd talented team. You will see us in the final.
Apart from this, I thik Italy is gonna failed completely, Germany will get to the final or so, like ever they do. Brazil is the favourite. Netherlands has a good team too. Watch Greece again. And don´t take your eyes from USA, they have a very good team, we´ll have to see if it´s enough to pass next round.
See ya!
.....and Spain won the World Cup ´06, with the wisdom guide of Cesc Fabregas and Xavi.

I'm rooting for Germany (I'm part german) and Paraguay (I'm also part chilean, but Chile didn't make it in this time around and Paraguay is my next favorite South American team). Brazil is a monster, of course, but I don't want them to win yet another WC so soon.
In my own way, I'm rooting for Ivory Coast as well. I saw the African championship games, and they really played outstandingly.
Btw, USA isn't in the Germany group. They play against Italy next week for their opening game. I honestly hope they play well, because poor footbal is boring footbal, but I'd be pretty damn surprised if Italy lost to them

heh, but what I want to see is a brilliant match with brazil playing in dazzling form... and then some team beating them despite that with awesome tactics and flawless teamwork. The idea evokes a kind of teamwork vs. individuality theme that I tend to enjoy
As for Sweden, don't underestimate my fellow South Americans!
Actually I have no real hope for Paraguay, but if they get pretty far, it will make me unbelieveably happy

Brazil had the best defence in 2002 which shows people that are stupid enough to think Brazil is all about offence the truth.
If one of the brazilian stars play up to thier level nobody has a chance.
I would love them winning if they played awesome at thier best, then it means that offence and technique wins as usuall, which is the kind of football i like.
I hate seeing hard working team who plays only destructive football, Italy,Germany last world cup hate that kind of football.

Well, I apologize when I mentioned the Greek team, because they´re not qualified. And I forgot to say too, that the Swedish team it´s gonna surprise us, because they´re a very phisical team, and very good runners. Also they had the Zlatan powa! . XDD
Good luck to evrybody. ^^

Ecuador is a country with many serious issues: there's poverty, a high criminal rate, corruption, a lack of education/ignorance, no women rights, etc, etc, etc.Libaax wrote:Femto you have something to be proud of.
In more ways than one, those eleven men on the field are giving us the only thing to be proud of. It's hard to explain but these games mean a lot to our people. Back in 2002, the shit hit the fan when we won the game that put us in the World Cup for the very first time. It's almost a patriotic thing and morale is important in a country like mine.
We don't expect to win the World Cup, we just want to say "hey, we have our fair share of problems but we're here and we can do great things."
PS: I only saw bits and pieces of the game, I was at work.
I was running around like a girl after I saw the 2 - 0 score though.
I'm surprised I didn't get fired for screaming "2 - 0 motherfuckers!" some ten times.

Yeah, that´s the reason of its name, cause it´s cross by the equator.(Ecuador in spanish).Buzkashi wrote:Ecuador is on the Equator......

What a horrid game by an incredibly bad England team, good for them that they got 3 points, but they play with the same crap tactic as usual, its bizzare how overrated they are and some expect them to challenge for the WC(only because they some strong and very good players, crap together though).
Paraguay was basically nonexistent, they were worse then Poland was yesterday, only Valdez who were competent. Great games yesterday, not good start today with this terrible game.
P.S Congrats Femto, Ecuador was amazing, specially with their defending and fine counterattacks. Limited in talent and technique, but accounts for more with organisation and smart play.
