'To beat the enemy, first, we must know the enemy'

Wow, that is l337. I don't even know half of the 'slang' is. Doesn't Microsoft have anything better to do? Apparently not.

I 'liked' the following:
"n00b," "noob," "newbie," or "newb": Combinations synonymous with new user. Some leetspeekers view "n00b" as an insult and "newbie" as an affectionate term for new users.
"pwn": A typo-deliberate version of own, a slang term that means to dominate. This could also be spelled "0\/\/n3d" or "pwn3d," among other variations. Online video game bullies or "griefers" often use this term.
While we're at it, http://www.microsoft.com/athome/securit ... efers.mspx. This is just so SAD.

I think this forum should stay clear of l337t4lk. Don't give Microsoft something to write about  . This article makes it sound like the 'kewl' kids are writing in code to hid shit from their parents. Since when has this become a secret agent war between parents and their children? 007 means something else when read upside down. It's in code. That is l337.

Oh, they missed out ghey. :D

History behind leet speak comes from making common words usable as passwords.

normal: void main()
password: v01d m41|\|()

which still is a sensable security technique. oh, and that particular password is something I made up... *grin* as in, i've never used it nor plan to use it now. :D

bUt 1337 is teh roxx0rz!!!11!!111

I always find 1337 to be funny, in the sense that I cannot believe that people would write like that. It's always funny when people are discussing something serious and some guy comes by saying "1 alr3ady h@ve teh romz."

And my god, I cannot believe Microsucks would write an article like that.

Actually, I use longer passwords. It comes from being in the business of dealing with IT security. Bruce force systems would blow away alpha numeric passwords with no problems, by adding additional characters that aren't apart of the alphabet greatly lengthens the time it takes. It is just a matter of discreate math.

Boo! Boo 1337! :P

Using it for passwords is all good and fine, but I think it's silly otherwise.

Home run for Microsoft for being more family-aware  . It appears it's trying to search for a soul. It's nice to know that by buying their products, I'm paying for that guy's wage to write more not-intended hilarious trashtalk translation. One word: WOW.

Yeah, like, keeping this forum safe is kewl and l337 :P . My password's pretty easy to get. I don't intend to keep a secretive password since I don't really have anything worth keeping anyway. They can check my hotmail account if the want. They'll just only have to read 100+ emails of porn.

I agree with you psi. I use longer passwords that use extra characters as well, if you type it a few times in a short period of time it gets where you can type it in efficiently. And you create the password from a word you can remember just change parts of it like 4 or @ for a's and such. But on alot of things I don't care about I use a simpler password compared to other things. It just depends. I always have atleast one number or letter.

And on the note of the 133t I just find it humorous, especially when people can't read it. I learned it just by reading MegaTokyo. Its not to hard to figure out.

And the griefers thing is funny.

At first I was liking the idea of Gmail, but then I read that they go through your mail and send you junk mail based on what your emails are. And I seriously dislike the idea of people going through my mail.

Really? I haven't got any spam or junk mail in my gmail account.

I'd like to know what Hung's email is. Then I'll register him to all this gay porn mail. But I bet he gets enough hate mail as it is to even notice it.

Buz: I've had gmail for awhile now and not one junk mail. Come on, nearly 98% of google inc. is made up of PhDs, they use gmail... I seriously doubt they want spam either. What gmail does is mechanically parse your email for 'buzzwords' and show related topics on the right hand side. No different from google searches or using their other services like maps.google.com.

I have been using it for a few months now. It is awsome. One of the best features is how it categorizes your mail. All replies and fowards and stuff are just in one thing so you can go back and read it as if it was IM or something. Cuts down on clutter alot. Also 1 GB of storage is awsome.

Maybe Microsoft finds their hackers from people who use 'pwn'.
