Tool - 10,000 Days
The new Tool album is excellent. I suggest everyone picks it up on May 2nd.

Where are you from? Tool has been around since the early 90s. They have five and a half albums, four of which are amazing. I would classify their music as experimental metal, I guess. They're my favorite band of all-time.Devil_Dante wrote:I googled Tool (I never heard of them b4), and they seem like an Rock band? People still listen Rock music?
I only listen to Trance though, but that's gonna change too... after a while.

Had to add my 2cents, I've listened to Tool since they first appeared on the scene.
I enjoy their lyrics, but more importantly their attention to math and it's influence on music. You won't find a more sophisticated musical composition anywhere else, save classical music and rarely Electronica (Goa, Trance, EBM... etc).
I would have to classify them as either Alternative Metal or Progressive Rock. THeir music is mostly inspired by Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush, and King Krimson to name a few.
They are the contemporaries of Rage against the Machine, of whom the members of Tool met each other through. Other contemporaries are Jane's Addiction and Faith no More.
So, I'm a bit biased because I grew up with them and their influences (Blue Sky by Pink Floyd as an example). I truly marvel at their technical accomplishments and I can't help but crank 'em up while at work.

Only when people say crazy shit.Buzkashi wrote:You got a twiching problem?

Um, that's nice, but you might actually want to listen to them for a while and form your own opinion.Femto wrote:I heard that Tool sucks.

Serioulsy, fuck off with that shit. On a similar note, why the fuck do people always feel the need to post in threads just to talk shit about the topic. If you don't like something, or aren't a fan, then we really don't care. These threads are made for interesting discussion and the giving of props. I mean, if you have a good reason to degrade something, then that's different, otherwise keep your pie hole shut.Eldo wrote:Oh my fucking god. I asked a question in my post and I didn't degrade anything. I only wanted to know what genre it was so perhaps I would give it a try... but I won't.Starnum wrote:Serioulsy, fuck off with that shit. btw what is it you guys have against Trance? I bet most of you haven't even tried listening to it. But now I'm really getting off topic.

No, I wasn't talking to him. As I said, it was on a similar note. The only thing that was directed towards Devil_Dante was the bit about going else where with the trance talk. Actually, I have listened to trance. Unlike some people, I don't make judgements on things without experiencing them properly first. The reason I don't like trance is because it sounds like no talent 8-bit video game music that just keeps repeating itself.
As for Tool, anyone who likes rock or metal should give them a try, and then decide how they feel. To do otherwise based solely on the words of others is foolish. You'd only be cheating yourself. Oh, and to answer Devil's question, I'd call Tool industrial metal, but that may just be me.

You'll hear it once I'm home

And a note on trance, since I feel I need to defend it. "Trance" is a horribly loose name for a genre that covers many, many different kinds of electronica. It's almost like saying "I listen to techno". Usually when someone says trance like this, they mean US poppy bullshit trance. If any of you are curious, PM me and I'll give you the names of a couple of artists that'll knock your socks off.
