Game of the Year.

Heh, I thought the PS2 was dead a year ago. But then I played Dragon Quest VIII, Shadow of the Colossus, and God of War. I was just amazed while playing God of War, I didnt know a PS2 game could look like that. Its kind of sad that it takes five years for developers to make a game that uses a systems full potential. Almost makes me wish a systems life-span was closer to ten years than five, it would be cheaper for me. But I am always looking for the next best thing, bigger, better. Damn my American blood.

KH2 will be the game of the year for 2006, mark my words. I played a little of the japanese version and it was pretty good but it was only as roxas and i dont know much about him other than what little is told about him (i wont spoil anything for you guys but it is a little wierd) and i didnt get to touch any of the great new additions to the game, so i cant wait till it is released. God of War 2 looks like more of the same, which isnt a bad thing at all, so i hope that they mix it up like they did in part one

-burnout revenge on 360 is sexy. i have to play tourist tourhpy first but revenge seems like a kick in for racing game. Well unless they release another burnout this year.

Thas natural that it takes some years to learn to use the most potential.Gaiseric wrote:Heh, I thought the PS2 was dead a year ago. One thing i have learned is the best game of a system always comes out the first year and the last year. Examples DMC,MGS2,MGS3,God of War etc The first year cause they put alot of effort into to making great games to sell alot at the start. The last year cause they have learned alot after several years that its easier to make a better game.

For 2005, the best games I played that year would be Resident Evil 4, Dragon Quest VIII, and well...I would choose F.E.A.R for PC...But I liked Condemned: Criminal Origins on Xbox 360 much more. Although Monolith did great with both.
For 2006, I have to say Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be either game or RPG of the year...It will be many a year before I see a game that achieves making a world more perfected and beautiful than Oblivion

Oblivion will have a top seed for this year.
KH2 will be a contender, and if ff12 does come out to the hype, it will be a knock out (this is me hoping). MGS3:S i would say doesnt count for this year, since it just has a new camera and online.
WoW:BC will pretty much steal the lives of people this july.
And if it does come out this year, LoZ:TP most likely will have a top score.
I have to say with 9 hours in, Oblivion is an awesome game.

Femto, find your inner masochist and love Kingdom Hearts. Do it now.Femto wrote:Kingdom Hearts 2 will never be a contender, if the first one was any indication.
I'm putting my money on Twilight Princess.
Either that or Okami.
Can't think of any other games right now.
PS: Halfnhalf is so mainstream it's not even funny.
But yeah, my money is on Twilight Princess too. KH2, while definetly a contender, does little more except reproduce the original in a less painful, i.e. more playable, form.

mainstream? how so? i named games that will be contending for game of the year in 2006. Why do i have to named for mainstreamed? did i name some EA game in there? no.

Oblivion is rather mainstream and so is many games you mentioned, there is nothing wrong with being mainstream since most of the games you seem to enjoy are good mainstream games.
As for Kingdom Hearts 2, I was very unimpressed.
Also, I am only going to mention games that have come out even though Twilight looks awesome.

well i only mentioned games that might make the list for 2006, doesnt mean i play them.
i have never played an mmorpg, nor will i ever. monthly cost no thanks. I know WoW will be up there but do i play it? no.
doesnt the GotY become mainstream? It becomes so good that everyone will have it.
If you havent play oblivion. people praise for a reason, because the game is way ahead of any other game that is out right now.
I dont think the games i named are mainstream. If i wanted to be mainstream i would name madden and NBA finals, but i dont play those games.
seriously though, i dont get why people say mainstream=tehsucks, lets haterade.
and you like this underground game or music and it becomes popular, you'll be the guy in back tellign everyone that you are the true fan cuz you with them/it from the beginning.
seriously right now everyone is gonna be all like hey i play fighters im hardcore gamer. fuck i play fighters too, maybe too much. t5, my game so dont fuck with me, sf3s, shit im pretty decent. but guess what? fighters are mainstream in japan, so dont be all underground with that.
i would say t5:dr would be goty, but USA doesnt play fighters. I bet someone will say im not hardcore for playing some unknown game, who cares. we are talking GotY, not "the non mainstream game of the year that i play, but you dont cuz you teh sucks."
/super ninja stealth edit
if any, tertis ds will have a spot. best fucking ds game. and laughs at the japanese, since USA got it first.

Damn, you got me there...Femto wrote:I saw and ad for Oblivion on the side of the bus the other day.
That's pretty mainstream.
But whatever, not everything that is mainstream is bad, even though most of it probably is.
I guess what I was trying to say is that Oblivion isnt exactly a game for everyone. I still dont consider most rpgs to be mainstream, when I think of a 'mainstream' gamer I think of the guys that play the sports games, GTA, and other mindless dribble that has next to no learning curve. I do love GTA though, great game.

I don't think I've ever played such and open-ended RPG (not for more than 30 minutes at least) and the idea of doing so sounds appealing. It'd be even more so if it weren't for how much time I'd probably spend on it, or the FPS gameplay.
Still wouldn't buy a 360 for it though, maybe when it's cheaper.
Agreed. I want a 360, but have a hard time laying down 400 dollars for a system that only has one or two games that I really want to play. I think I will wait until this fall to pick one up, by then Gears of War and Too Human should be out or close to. I have a few games to keep me busy for a couple months, then I will get into WoW this summer until Zelda comes out in September. But who knows, E3 may have a few surprises that will change my plans.
