Hi everyone, I've just finished reading all of the Berserk manga (Vol4-31) but theres something i need to ask. I've been reading through the forums searching about this and what not, but i just cannot find what im looking for.
I want to apologise in advance if this has been covered in depth but i just could not find anything relating to this.
I would like to know in what chapter it is that Gutts has intercourse with Slan, i've seemed to miss this part of the story somehow on my first read through the manga? it seems to me that this is an important part of the story so if anyone could help me it would be appreciated. Just in case this is misinterpreted im not asking for volumes/chapters as i know this is frowned apon. all im asking for is the chapter number/volume number in which this happens ?

Guts DOES NOT have intercourse with Slann. You are mistaken. She teases him, sure, but that's all she does. It is part of the troll extermination arc, I cannot tell you what volume it is from the top of my head.
However, Guts does have sex with a demon at the start of volume 1.

Role models?
Hi, I've been lurking a long time, mostly to leech any of the great Berserk releases. But my point for posting has to do with yesterday, when I was asked whom is my role model; and I said I have no REAL role model. I then explained how a fictional character, a swordman, is a role model for me. So it turns out Guts is a role model for me. So I'm very curious what role models everyone else has on these Berserk boards and why? (I'm betting I will find that some of the qualities in your role models will be in Guts).
Some of the main reasons why Guts is my role model is as follows:
1. Guts is willing to sacrifice his flesh and peace of mind in order to keep his emotional being. Guts cried when he was greatly hurt by Caska (only female he ever liked) being raped, but refused to allow himself to collapse his emotional being and lose his composure.
2. Guts strays from being a part of a crowd. This may not be by his choice originally, but if one looks at American society and western civilization history, one might see that people have been accustomed to having greater security by joining a crowd at the expense of intellect and ethical decision-making.
Although I am aware Guts can lose access to some of his cognitive faculties when he is in the Berserker form, I have always seen Guts cause as innocent and pure (intellectual and ethical) considering that all the crap he has been through is really just a result of him trying to survive and follow what his emotions tell him is right and ethical. This is quite the opposite from a capitalist society where material things, money, and competition seem to dictate whether or not one will follow through with an act based on emotion; ethics and emotional desire just don't carry the weight (money/profit) in Capitalism and are often left aside. So to me, Guts is more of a human, and I am more of a resource. I'd like to be more of a human.
3. The friends Guts has made along his journey in life (besides Griffith) have a certain quality about them. That quality is respect and trust (with the exception of Serpico. I don't feel enough information is known about him yet). But, nevertheless, I think Guts can at least rely on Serpico because he knows Serpico will help protect everyone, as well as try to stop Guts if he becomes the Berserker and tries to kill everyone. And Silke, who can see into Guts's mind, seems to respect Guts for his courage in surviving the hardships he has been through and wants to do her best to help make Guts's life easier. Then of course, who could forget Puck. If Guts gets beat up real bad, Puck does his best to heal him. I think Puck realizes that even though Guts comes off as an asshole sometimes because he has had bad experiences with people, Guts is really quite a good person.
4. I love the way Guts is angry toward any God and I think he's courageous to think of a God as something to fight against. I have always felt, even before reading Berserk, that if a God exists, that God is unjust in allowing so many disastrous and torturous things to occur in the world (especially Tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanos, which do not occur from quarrels with humans).
Guts takes on the idea that there is no happy after-life, which many people in real life could never do without losing a lot of hope. But Guts is brave enough to accept such an idea and fight for what he sees as true, instead of fighting for something he would like to be true, which again, many people in real life could never do.
Sorry for the long read. If you read this, then I thank you for spending the time to hear what I have to say about this sublime manga Berserk in regards to role models.

hi and welcome!
=)
if i were to pick a role model, it would be someone real who has "been there and done that". a self-made person like my father or any other person who has survived the realities of life and "made it".
i read berserk for entertainment and enjoy the parallels to the real world. however, it is still just fiction after all.
sorry if i pour cold water on the subject.

nah, that's fine if that is your answer. I'd say it's much better and natural to have a REAL role model, but I haven't been able to find anyone to be something of that caliber (role model) to myself. I find myself thinking a lot about what Guts would do in my situation when life gets hard.
"i read berserk for entertainment and enjoy the parallels to the real world. however, it is still just fiction after all. "
I completely agree with this; But I don't see anything majorly wrong with having a fictional character as a role model just because it is fiction, if that is what you might have been suggesting.
I may change my mind when I get older and see what I thought of as childish, as with other things, but the Berserk manga I find to be really amazing. I've never read or seen anything so moving before. The only thing that might come in a distant second would be the book "Doom: Knee Deep In The Dead" (I know what your thinking, a book based on a video game, how good can that be? But I thought it was very good too). Anyhow, my point is that I hope you don't get the wrong idea and think I'm a illusioned teenager who is going to go out and kill people (that hurt him) with a sword

nah dont let me influence your outlook.
having is role model in itself is a positive thing. be it real or ficticious.
its the character of the role model that we admire. like you said, when faced with an obstacle, we will try to imagine what the character will do and make the right choice.
thats what matters.
i am just trying to highlight a distinction between real and fictional.

hey man, since childhood, all of my role models have been fictitious. (unless alita is real after all...)
and, im a chick, and i still think of guts the similarly as u do. hes just really bad-ass. of course caska is more of a role model for me in the end, but i think i have a little more respect for guts, given he didn't go crazy like caska did after the eclipse.

You can take one thing from Gatts that is a really good aspect of character. He has many, MANY reasons for giving up. His world is evil, nothing good seems to be acomplished, the woman he loves is nuts and hate him, and so. Yet, he doesn't give up. That is a nive aspect of character that everyone should follow

yeah, i agree. in anime, u get a lot of just "sad pasts" and traumatizing things happening. there is an ongoing contest to see which character has the worst past.
berserk wins the contest. and even though he does win the contest, he keeps going. he so fuckn' awesome.

(fresh meat [evil laugh]ahahahah[/evil laugh]........
) Anyway we would love to hear what you have to say, and keep an open mind to others ideas and criticisms
I find the animes that emphasis sad pasts as the basis for liking the characters to be melodramatic and too preachy.
That is not true with Berserk and if you keep up with it you will see

I thought this guy's name was Potatopooper and I was going to comment in how awesome that was.Potatopopper wrote:It's not so much the fact that Guts has a sad past as my reason for liking his character though. My reason for liking his character seems to coincide with what Khelegond has said.

So much for that.

Hello, everybody.
I have been following your scanlations for some time, but surprisingly enough, I found the forum yesterday while "Googling" for the Evil Genius videogame. In fact, I have just noticed the url is in the last page of the scans, so
I don´t know if I will post much (I hope so), since I still feel pretty awkward when writing English (and it kind of sucks, considering that my proficiency with my native tongue is one the things I´m proudest about myself). But at the very least, I wanted to congratulate the responsibles for such a quality scanlation.
So here you have yet another addict to the Berserk drug.
Read you soon!

Hi all from long time lurker and first time poster.
I have a question:
Thanks to Evil Genius and Band of The Hawks I was able to read the whole berserk manga from volume 1 to the newest. I do have all volumes, although it is possible that I do not have all the chapters. Needles to say, Berserk is freakin' more than great. Recently I got Berserk anime and watched some parts of it and I was a bit confused by something that I saw. In anime when Guts wanted to leave the Hawks, Griffith did not want to let him go so he attacked him and , after a short fight, lost. He seemed confused and angry. Guts said something like: "well, that's just a pebble on a road for him, he will recover". Griffith was later caught after having sex with king's daughter.
In manga, however Guts vs Griffith fight was completely omited! It seems that Guts just left or something (it is not very well explained) and Griffith later did what he did.
So, in manga, was Guts attacked by Griffith for leaving Hawks or not?
Sorry for my bad english.

Welcome guys.
And yes, Guts was attacked by Griffith for leaving the Hawks in the manga. If anything, the anime omitted parts from the manga, not the other way around. I think you're missing something.

Yes, I did not have that chapter. Today I downloaded the volume and now everything makes more sense.
Thank you for helping me.
One of the rules on your site says that it is forbidden to make "vs" treads. I guess that it means that "personX vs personY" treads are forbidden. How about "weaponX vs weaponY" tread? Dragonslayer vs samurai katana would be an interesting fight to analyze.
And ,by the way, how many post do I need to create in order to be allowed to make a tread? Don't worry I am not going to spam the forum or something, I am a reasonable man.

Versus threads are fine as long as it's not some hypothetical bullshit, i.e. Goku vs. Guts, Dragonslayer vs. Masamune, Metal Slug vs. Kitt, etc, etc, etc. If you want to talk about which book or which movie or whatever is better, I guess that's reasonable, as long as you don't pick random stuff. I mean, you could compare Sandman to Berserk, but they have absolutely nothing in common and it'd all end up in flames.
