Gabbly is an interesting web app made with AJAX.
It allows you to create a chat box within the page for any page you visit and chat with people on that same address, whom are also using gabbly. All you have to so is insert 'http://gabbly.com/' in front of any url and the page will load with a little chatbox floating around.
Gabbly was released a week ago but the creators were unable to deal with the initial traffic which caused many problems. As of right now, the web app is down until tomorrow cuz they are upgrading their systems.
When i first used Gabbly, it would work just fine sometimes and then it would crash on me other times (I use Firefox). I was just about to post a blog when it crashed on me the first time, so i had to type the whole blog over again. So just in case, i now just use IE for gabbly if I'm doing multiple things online. It has crashed on IE too but at least i don't lose any info. They may have already fixed this problem, but I'd still be careful when using it.
I'll post an update when it's back up and running.
You can read about it here.

Gabby and Campfire (another project by 37 signals) is an attempt to get people to communicate in masse with using a web-browser.
Not only is this inefficient, it tries to solve a problem that was already addressed with IRC or IRC and Java which has already been done with Chat Room or mIRC/pjIRC/iirc/etc .
AJAX is a neat combination of technologies, don't get me wrong. It can greatly enhance your projects. You can do neat stuff with it, but this just doesn't do it for me. I have better tools at my disposal.
