I may sound like a nutcase here, but I really believe that religion is slowing down humanity's progress.

Without religion the world would be a dark place, humans need something great to believe in. It would be totaly anarchy if people didnt believe in anything and hadn't any goals.


Also religion is good for teaching people moral if there wasnt any religion there would a lot more crime and other horrible things.

has anyone here actually felt the pain that that kid went through? closest i've come is wanting a girl so bad, not being able to have her, and wanting her out of my head so bad i could almost literally blow it out. unlike him though, I can deal with my problems. (no you will probably NEVER hear about me commiting suicide...and if i do i'll leave a post about it ...)

Living a good and honest life... The set of rules we are supposed to follow depends on the religion we choose. So, which one should we choose? Most of the major religions assume that it is the only truth. So the followers of other religions should be "in a wrong path". Are they all going to end up in Hell? If the answer is "no", then what is the point of following your religion - lets say religion A-, as I might end up in heaven by following religion B as well. If the answer is "yes", then the problem is even bigger. Then there are hundreds of millions of people out there following religion B, and they sincerely think that you'll end up in hell after living "a good and honest life".

Then they don't fit the bill in being atheist... you are either a theist, an atheist, or agnostic.

Theism is the belief in one or more gods or goddesses. More specifically, it may also mean the belief in God, a god, or gods, who is/are actively involved in maintaining the Universe. This secondary meaning is shown in context to other beliefs concerning the divine below.

So if that is a theist, then an atheist is the opposite, meaning... nadda. No God, No un-moved mover, no higher power.

Agnostic is that you don't care either way, it does not concern you.

You can be... spiritual I guess. Once you start getting into that, it just gets weird. My def of weird is stuff that defies logical reasoning. Yes, Quantum Mechanics is weird...

Now, about this whole atheist thing, I just wanted to mention something. I've found that most of the "atheists" I've met, really aren't. If you don't believe in something, then why would you reference it? I don't believe in unicorns, so I rarely speak of them. When they are mentioned, I take the subject very lightly. However, there are so many atheists out there, the ones I've met anyway, who are so damn quick to bad mouth God. I think these people actually do believe in God, at least a little, and they're just holding something against him. Well, they're the hypocrites, and they're also confused and simply displaying misdirected hostility. All the time I hear people who show just how little they actually know about Christianity, as they bad mouth it, and make statements that show that they haven't actually taken the time to research the material that they're so eager to slander. I mean, you don't have to believe it, but at least know what the fuck you're talking about. I've only met a few people who I would actually call "atheist", and you know how they refer to God, well, they rarely do. They don't seem hostile or give me any kind of negative vibes about the subject. They usually seem uninterested, but unbothered by it. I mean seriously, think about how people actually regard things they don't believe in, like pots of gold at the end of rainbows, and then compare that to the supposed disbelief of most "atheists". There's a difference, right?

Now, I know some people do hold things against the religion, or the church, because of the people. I used to be that way too. There are a lot of supposed Christian hypocrites and bigots out there. However, and this goes back to what I'm always saying, people suck...not God.

There's so many damn people out there, including most "Christians", who don't actually know what Christianity is truly about.

It's a common misconception that Atheists don't belive in God. Subtle nuances of the English language matter here.

Theists believe in (at least one) god.
Agnostics don't believe in any gods.
Atheists actively believe that there are no gods.

Consider the difference between the Agnostic and the Atheist. In one case there is an absence of belief in a higher power. In the other there is belief in the absence of a higher power.

It's a whole big thing.

Unfortunately, it's become so "hip" to be an Atheist that most people who profess themselves as such are too daft to understand what it means.
