Conventions!

Post by psi29a »

North American Anime/Manga Goodness! Please list any conventions in your area, this in hope of generating enough interesting to get an EG group meeting IRL!

East Coast:

Otakon: http://www.otakon.com/
location - Baltimore, Maryland
A very large convention: over 20,899 registered attendees in 2004.)

Katsucon: http://www.katsucon.com/
location - Arlington, Virginia

Nekocon: http://www.nekocon.com/
location - Virginia Beach, Virginia 23466-2424

Please note, there are more in the area than those listed above. I've personally been going to Otakon every year since 1996 and can vouch that even if you dispise anime or manga, you will have fun anyway.

List more that are in your area! ^_^

There are always a couple in Toronto, unfortunately I don't learn about them until a week before it happens and I have to schedule time off of work.

Yeah Psi, you listed for me too...thank you :) I'm in Rockville, MD, so I'm right around the corner from Otakon, etc...But I have yet to go to any cons for the simple reason that, whenever one occurs, I'm broke, hah :(

But Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival) in D.C. is pretty cool overall so at least I get some kinda fix out of this damn season hehe. If you're not familiar w/the event, for a week, they turn a few blocks by the Capitol into a 'Ginza' type festival of food, vendors, exhibitions, etc. They hold an anime festival amidst various art exhibits at the Sackler Museum, Sumo wrestling & music (J-pop/J-Rock at times)/dance/martial arts performances in various locations, etc. But then, I may be the only one here dork enough for all of that, lol

Mr Jotaan, I love your avatar :) heheee

Yup it's definitely kiku, my favorite actor Toshiro Mifune. I love anyone who has that much energy without being a crack addict.

Its cause a lot of people dont use BBtech. On other skins its readable. So just hilight it.

The default template is Aelous, basically means that if it is legible in Aelous then it is OK. BBtech template is still around because Evanidus still uses it.

Starlore: Yes, I'm a fan of the Cherry Blossom Festivale in DC. I'm typically up in N. Va once a week plus I have fellow Gentoo Linux developers that are up there as well, so the commute isn't that bad, provided it isn't rush hour *grin*.

A group of us get together once a year, fit 4+ people in a room to drive down the price. You need around $150 to enjoy yourself at the con. If you dig ramen, probably get away with $100. $50 for 3 day pass, $50 for two night room (at NICE hotel, not those ghetto places).

If anyone wants to roll with us, the more the marrier. ^_^

Only conventions close to me would probably be in Vegas and thats still 5 hours away, so not really worth it.

Hm, well, you won't see me at any of these, because none of them seem to be close enough to me. By the way, I use Aelous because I like the way it looks more. It's got that cool Berserk picture thing at the top, and stuff...it's cool...COOL I SAY! *cough, cough*.
