matrix revolutions definitely goes on my seven movies list. although it could have been a lot better (ex: the trainman thing was DEFINITELY just to kill time), the movie fulfilled my dream of something close to a starcraft movie with that battle of zion :D 8) :D

The only good matrix was the first one. The other two were letdowns. Good movies, but not as good as the first and therefore a letdown. I actually liked the story and stuff, just the special effects sucked to me in the second and third. They tried to hard and cut corners in some areas with there computer animation. Still good movies, just not as good as the first.

I hated the other two matrix sequels because it opened more questions than answers. They shoulda ended it with the first one, leaving it shrouded with mystery. It was really eye candy for me with the next two.

Yeah, there's why I didn't really enjoy the next two. The eye candy's been repeated. And they said they were gonna improve the bullet time scene, but I really don't see the diff.

I just saw the seven samurai last night. I guess because it was made in the 50's it was really good. THey should do a remake in my opinion. But it was really funny at times with tha Kikuchiyo guy.

Remakes suck ass. It's very sad to see that most people are unable to come up with new ideas nowadays. Instead they rely on butchering true classics so "new audiences" can enjoy them today. If I want to see Psycho, I'll get the original version, not some idiot's interpretation of it. I mean, Jesus Christ, did we really need a live action Scooby-Doo movie? Or a Fantasia 2000?

Um, like westerns? Check out Magnificent Seven. A couple of the Clint Eastwood westerns are rip-offs of Kurosawa movies too.

Last Man Standing, some Bruce Willis flick, was based off of Yojimbo. So if you want modernized and americanized version of one of his movies you could check that one out. IMO it does not come anywhere close to the original though.

mrJotaan wrote:I've seen a lot of movies similiar to Zatoichi where there wasn't much plot and all I can say is that what makes these movies great is what isn't said. It's hard to really explain it properly but I've seen a lot of Japanese movies and thought by North American standards, nothing is happening. A movie like Seven Samurai, for the people who haven't seen it, I won't ruin it but you pretty much know they're gathering up samurai to protect the village. During that time of finding samurai, there's some dialogue but not a whole lot yet this movie is still rated one of the best movies of all time. It's hard to explain why this method of directing movies is effective but it just seems to be that way.
I think one of the main reasons we Americans tend to be confused by Asian Cinema (well, at least Japanese), is because of a fundamental cultural difference as far as communication. In Japan, it's not necessary to be specific, or overly detailed in speaking. Things are often left very vague/general & assumed...example being, if you're speaking to someone, they'd leave out "I" or "You", because its obvious who's being addressed (if noone else is around). Kinda hard to explain, but alot of this trickles down into movies, books, manga, anime, etc...

We Americans on the other hand, have to spell everything out to each other & be spoonfed answers all the time rather than coming up w/our own, haha...

Anyway, as far as movies go, I couldn't constrain my list to any solid number, so I'll just toss up some faves for shits & giggles.

~Berserk (not a 'movie', but my favorite storyline by FAR)
~Star Wars
~Monty Python & the Holy Grail
~The Crow
~Kundun
~The Evil Dead Trilogy
~Indiana Jones (all but the last one)
~Usual Suspects
~Fear & Loathing
~Reservoir Dogs
~Dune (David Lynch version)
~Se7en
~Last Samurai
~Anything to do with Kevin Smith, Takeshi Kitano, Stephen Chow & Akira Kurosawa

Honorable Mention:

The Muppet's Take Manhattan (Jim Henson was the shit), The Dark Crystal, The Princess Bride, War of the Worlds, Any & all Godzilla flicks, LOTR Trilogy, Aliens, Predator, Pi, Cube, Hellraiser (1-3), Communion, Fire In The Sky, X-Files (the Movie), Kung Pow, Spaceballs, From Hell, The Messenger ,Vanilla Sky, Blade Runner, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Excalibur, Thelma & Louise, Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Fight Club, Gladiator, Almost Famous, Armageddon, Day After Tomorrow, The Core (so I like doom & gloom shit, sue me!), Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick, Life as a House, Natural Born Killers

Crouching Tiger, Tasogare Seibei (Twilight Samurai), Suicide Club, Red Shadow, Casshern, Lovers(House of Flying Daggers), Fong Sai Yuk (1 & 2), Returner, etc

"Your father sucks the flaking cocks of lepers in the lowest circle of HELL!!!"

..."Does he swallow?" ~Hellblazer

"Imagination is intelligence with an erection"~Victor Hugo

"Life is a disease...Sexually transmitted & fatal"~Neil Gaiman

I definitely like any movie by Akira Kurosawa and Takeshi Kitano. I've got a collection of Takeshi Kitano going and I'm gonna start building up my Kurosawa collection. Right now I'm watching Ran and sometime soon I'll watch Kikujiro which is a Kitano film. Stephen Chow is awesome, gotta love Shaolin Soccer and I'm trying to get more of his movies which won't be too hard since I live in Toronto. Lately all I've been watching are asian films like Aniki(Brother, Kitano Film), Ong-Bak with Tony Jaa, Breaking news which is a chinese movie and some others.
