haha hail version 2.0!
jus got gta liberty cities, and it is terrific. the controls are surprising comfortable too. right now, the game itself feels like gta3 except with better graphics and abilities. and guess what v1.5 downgraders?
GTA ONLY WORKS ON VERSION 2.0+
and as you can see, there are always gonna be a bunch of computer nerds who are gonna spend countless hours trying to hack v2.0 for no other reason than their pride and eventually they will be successful as femto pointed earlier that his snes emulator works now so really folks, dont ever downgrade. its really not worth it, cuz im sure all the future games such as socom will only work on v2.0 and up.

It's a losing battle really.
I mean, a few years down the road the PSP firmware will be on version 10.95++ with a million new features and people will still be hanging on to 1.5 to play teh roms?
I'm sorry, but paying $250 for a rom machine is stupid. I'm having fun with my SNES roms, but as soon as a new version with good features come out or an awesome game that requires firmware over 2.00 gets released, I'm upgrading without thinking twice about it.
People that have one PSP to play the roms and one for actual games are fucking retards.

I was wondering, are there people currently trying to hax0rz the firmware 2, or is it virtually impossible at this stage?
Maybe they can have some program that can emulate the firmware 2 environment...I don't know, I'm making this shit up.

yeah there actually are, if you check psp news sites they have untested emu programs, but nothing confirmed yet, and i dont try it out unless i get feedback.
there will always be ppl who will try to hack stuff like psp v2.0 homebrew. there are bunch of computer nerds that are out there that will hear that "v2.0 is unhackable" and they will say "oh yeah, ILL hack it!" for no sake at all but their pride. it will help their computer nerd pride by being able to say "i was able to hack the unhackable" and etc etc, so eventually v2.0 will be hacked too

Basically, an exploit has been found in 2.00, but you can't run as many homebrews as you could with it compared to the 1.50 exploit.
Unless Sony has a change of heart and decides to let the PSP run homemade programs, the homebrew scene will die in a couple of years. I don't see them doing that because of the goddammed faggots that only care about running UMD loaders so they don't have to pay for the actual games. That's the main reason why Sony keeps beefing up the security on the handheld, to prevent piracy.

exactly, GTA liberty city stories beats 1.5 emulators anyday. oh and thank you femto for helping to back up my argument so strongly. like you said, you DONT BUY A PSP JUST TO PLAY EMULATORS.
anyway, i found out that for atleast psp max media manager that there is a new video conversion format which is AVC. i aint no computer wiz so how does this format fair to MPEG4 format?

AVC is really good actually, that's another reason why I'm not downgrading back to 1.5. Not only can you get widescreen video files with AVC, but the compression is really good with little difference compared to the previous format. I can get a full Family Guy episode to around the 60MB area, with good video and audio quality, I'm sure you can compress it even further if you lower some of the settings down.
Get the latest PSP Video 9, it supports AVC and it's IMO the best video handling program for the PSP out there.

And that's because at the moment there is no way to get in the kernel with the exploit. As soon as the first kernel steps will be taken there won't be much more problems with compatibility of all the programs and the tricking for later firmwares.Femto wrote:Basically, an exploit has been found in 2.00, but you can't run as many homebrews as you could with it compared to the 1.50 exploit.

well GT4 is a pretty good racing game, but wipeout pure was jus pure awesome, it even wiped away the competition with midnight club. i dont think GT4 would have raised the sales that much, and now with the huge titles coming such as socom navy seals, sony will definitely sell more.
plus later on in 2006, theres gonna be final fantasy crisis core and another GTA game on the psp, its gonna be crazy
