id say the best mmorpg ive played was raganrok online

i played on private lineage 2 servers for a long time and after a couple of them shutdown i decided to bite the bullet and get a legit account from the official website... i spent 60 bucks on a cd-key and i have to say it was a total waste... MMORPGs are just a serious waste of time because theres no skill involved like, say, an fps game... monthly fees are a bitch to pay and theres always some asshole out there thatll KS you because he's bored... i spent lots of hours playing lineage 2 and it really wasnt worth it... maybe if they update the graphics and get rid of the stupid exp system and implement some sort of real-world skill into the game i might download the trailers.. otherwise thats it

you guys seriously still enjoy MMORPGS? howcome?

I play MMO's because they are fun and RO is an MMO that's way down the bottom of the list. Right down there with Gunz the Duel.

EDIT - They have a new video of S.U.N. at http://www.gametrailers.com

I say meh to MMOs. Especially ones that you have to pay. If I am going to get back into the MMO market, I mean the MMOs that I have to pay for monthly that is, it would have to be REALLY good.

The only big game I know of with a free server is Ultima Online, and I wouldn't play that game again if someone payed ME to do it.

Hehe UO on RPG Freeshards was fun... years ago...
Many MMORPGs have "Freeshards"/free server. They are not always legal but for example Lineage 2 and even WoW has some already.

I play the hell out of WoW and Lineage II for free. On fast rate servers.

So far the only MMOs worth paying for me are WoW and FFXI (but I've SLOWED down from playing... maybe hop on once every week or two. Guild Wars is free but it's a damn good MMO. Lineage II is subpar. Everquest II is just bleh to me. RO is ...is just horrible.

I just can't wait for the day when FFXI gets a high rate free server. Maybe a X10 or X15 server. It would still take weeks to get to level 75 ...or level 80 or 90 or 100 or whatever they set the max level to. FFXI's leveling system goes to 255. I would set it to level 90 so that you'd be able to solo most things for items but yet still have a little difficulty with gods or HNMs. I don't know about the subjobs though...I would probably keep them at the same level. I would also disengage the EX and RARE status on all gear. As soon as someone figures out how to get a free shard running I think I'll start my own project.

I would have the formula for the server set at X15 for EXP, X20 for crafting, X1000 for money dropped by enemies (in FFXI you hardly get ANY money from mobs), X25 for Skill Level. I would have it so that crafters could buy most materials from stores. Except for higher level mob materials which they would have to camp. I would also drastically reduce the time for NM and HNM spawns. The drop rate would go up just a bit for everyone. Thieves would still have an advantage. I would also try to have NPCs that sold up to level 30 common equipment for people. Would also try to implement NPC and GM(GMs are only Humes) only equipment into the game..such as Judge armor and Lightbringer armor. I would adjust BCNM level limits so that people could solo or accomplish them without a full party. The same would go for summons. I don't know what the hell I would do about dynamis though.

No free warp NPC.
No job changer NPC.
I will wipe the Dragoon job out. (Just kidding.) Maybe I could adjust their TP gain to make them as effective as they used to be when they were first introduced and before the march/april 2004 update.
Could probably get the server running with about only about 150 at most.

I believe work on a free server will start as soon as Square-Enix releases their special edition FFXI DVD with all the updates and expansions on it.

I started on a Lineage II free server but I stopped since the game isn't that great at all... that and the guy who was gonna help me with the scripting decided the game wasn't worth it.

Update: Soul of the Ultimate Nation closed beta testing will take place on September 27th, 2006 -_- That's a long ways away. I can't tell if the poste says 2005 or 2006...but it definitely looks like a 6 to me.

There is a multi server project coming atm. made for WoW and future good games. The WoW Emus suck at the moment, too buggy.

So it will be in 2005...so I guess the game will be released first quarter of 06 after all.

The Shadow class sounds interesting but it's more a Warlock than a Necromancer. ;(

You sound like my brother. If the game is sweet, then play it, who cares if it does not have a necro class.

where did you find information on the shadow class. What I'm hoping for in this game is a good character customization.

I'm going to throw down some money on that a 512 MB graphics card for this game. Hopefully by the time S.U.N released they won't cost $800. 8X is around $800 and the 16X is about $1600.

I don't know since I first played a Necromancer in an MMORPG all other Classes seemed lame to me and I didn't have fun with them.
I like Warriors, too. The Berserker class sounds good, too.
But I'm longing to abuse the dead. ;)

Hehe you should check the link before you comment on it. ;)
Yeah, not that awesome but there isn't much in the net about the game and I'm sure it will rock.
I'm "working" for an online gaming (multiplatform) magazine right now, maybe through this I'll get an account. We'll see.

Ok I was playing Ragnarok Online. I just started Yesterday. My character is level 18 with level 11 swordsman job... I was kicking major ass today... when a player took it upon themselves to report me for botting. I guess the dumb bitch never heard of macros. She said that I was curing myself too fast and that I was killing the mobs too quickly and also, that I wouldn't talk. I don't talk to anyone on MMOs until I'm at a higher level. Jesus, almost get my free account taken away for being silent and kicking way too much ass.
Macros? I wasn't aware that Ragnarok Online had macros persay, other than the 10 spaces they have that you can use (F1-F10) for skills and for switching out things like weapons and armors.

But meh. I didn't get into this conversation to make enemies or anything. The same premise for almost every MMORPG has been discussed here. Which of course, is hack, slash, level up until you're max level, go on hundreds of item runs to get the best equipment in the game, and then sit around and chat until you get bored.

In my time I've played, and hosted, several MMORPGs. All together...I've played DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot), Redmoon, Tibia, World of Warcraft, Lineage II, Maple Story, Rakion, ROSE Online, Risk Your Life, Knight Online, Guild Wars, Ragnarok Online, Shining Lore...and several others. And I've hosted Ragnarok Online, Lineage II, Shining Lore, and Dark Age of Camelot on private servers (you know, those illegal type ;)).

To be honest...all of them share the same idea as was already previously said in my post here. The only thing that makes a MMORPG memorable and enjoyable, is how you get to that final point, and what you can do once you reach this final point.
Steeples scrape the sky, Praising God.
Everything here exists for God, is sacrificed to God.
For those who have nothing to sacrifice,
It can be a very heartless city indeed.

That's the problem in MMORPGs everyone is trying to show off, getting better than others and everything is about competition etc.

That's why I enjoyed playing Ultima Online on a roleplaying freeshard for some years. It was real roleplaying, everyone played his character, a bit skilling, some pgs, too. But after all it was like a little world in which you live to meet and play with people and not to always try to get the best things.
And all that medieval speech and behaviour. :)
