well i do think the fourth is indeed very strong, could be stronger than the third. i mean he was called the yellow flash because he knew of an extremely rare blink technique

A speed theq isnt everything also i didnt say he was weak, i did say he was legendary but not near as good as the third was in his prime. They should make a gaiden about the third someday to see his young days,would be very good.

I didn't compare the old 3rd with the 4th, but if I were to do so all we have now is the young 4th and the old 3rd to compare.

No, I didn't outright say the story implied that the 4th was stronger then the 3rd, but the 3rd did seem to look at the 4th's portrait with nostalgia as if he wishes the 4th were here. He might have been able to do so much more.

Again, we can only answer with bias.

We cant answer with bias cause the facts say the this "the third was a ninja god in his prime,known as the greatest ninja ever"

Also of course he misses the fourth for many reason mostly cause he would protect the village easy from the likes of Oro which the old third coulndt.

Yeah i agree that the fourth is better than the old the third. I was comparing primes cause its not fair comparing 80 year old to 20 something guy.

Yeah cause he is only the strongest in history of SAND who are know for not having many great ninjas and for they lie like hell to save thier face. If everyone knew he wouldnt be known as the strongest...

Since something like this havent happend to the third in KONOHA we know how good he was.

We can't know for sure. The Leaf seem so much nicer then the Sand. Also... Sexy no jutsu...

I was saying that most of the leaf don't strike me as the kind to backstab eachother, especially their leader. At least their prodigies didn't try to at least.

So we know the 3rd's strength through word of mouth, whereas we know the 4th managed to seal the Kyubi. The 4th currently has a bit more weight.

We dont see The fourht beating kyubi we only hear it which is the same thing as hearing how great the third was.

We don't see the 4th doing it (if we did it would explain so much), but their is physical evidence at least. Our protagonist.

If the 3rd left a giant crater somewhere, he would get some weight too.

It wasn't that the 3rd's legend was a lie, but to better gauge their strengths we're using what we know and have about them. The 3rd wouldn't even be considered for the position if he wasn't fit for the job, that gives him some weight. So we can assume they were of equal standing for a time.

However, the 4th sealed the Kyubi while the 3rd didn't. Was it because the 4th felt that the 3rd could handle political matters for the leaf better? Or could it be the 3rd didn't have the strength to seal the Kyubi?

The 4th was the Hogake back then so it was his job to take down Kyubi even if the third was younger and stronger.

Why would the 4th give up his life instead of the 3rd, when the 4th would obviously live longer...

Wouldn't it make sense to have the underlings sacrifice themselves so the leader can live?

If it was his job, does it mean he was the only one capable?

I think he was the only one who could do this and the Hokage see their villages and the people as their family so they try to defend them not to sacrifice them.

Cause the third wasnt strong enough to handle kyubi also nobody knew about him sacrificing himself. Plus The third coulndt take more than Oro's arms with the same jutsu,so he woulndt have a chance against kyubi with same jutsu.

Sending underlings would only mean death for them since only the strongest can handle a demon like Kyubi and even the fourth died what would jounins,chuunin do against kyubi then.
