I am using spybot, lavasoft adaware se pro 1.05, and the new M$ application, and also FireFox seems to do its share..

As an IT consultant, I recommend:
HijackThis:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/
Best damn tool ever! Be warned, it is powerfull and can remove even legit things, use carefully and you can remove anything.
Spy-Bot: Search & Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Gets rid of some nasties and helps protect IE and your systems settings from the evils of the intarweb.
Adaware: SE
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Get's whatever else Spybot didn't detect. (cookies, and other fluff)
Firefox:
http://www.mozilla.org/
Free web-browser that beats the pants off of IE, works on Windows/Linux/Mac/Younameit/toaster. Anti-popups, awesome search functionality, tabbed browsing (great for multiple forum topics), and FAST & SMALL.
If anyone else has any awesome FREE applications that you can use on Windows that does not come with spyware/malware/viruses/trojans/shareware/nagware... please post! ^_^

...and you gotta stop using coloured text with your ava and sig....Damien wrote:Yeah Psi, I allready use all of those....

I got all those programs too, and I have a popup everytime I start IE. I usually prefer using Mozilla, but it's a spyware issue in IE.

Just thought this is appropriate:

Your just jealous because you can't afford a quality computer. *grin*
Kidding aside, once MacOSX came out, I can truly say that finally... I like Macs. I may not like Apple as a company, but their products are top notch. What can ya say, MacOSX is really just a lickable version of Unix. Whats not to like?

We have tested webroot's Spysweeper, sunbelt's counterspy, and pest petrol.. a few others as well. In my formalized documentation to my employer... they all suck. They are not ready for deployment and can cause problems with existing software, it is better to use stand-alone tools at this time.
Microsoft has made some inroads by buying out Giant, a software developer and are making plans to integrate Giant's spyware prevention tool into Windows. You can download and test it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/securit ... fault.mspx
because it is microsoft supported, it will find LOADS of more stuff than what any combination of independant spyware removal tools you use.

hmmm...I recall there was a spyware detector that was paid off by a spyware company to NOT detect their spyware...they *claim* it wasn't spyware, while the others detected it. Can't remember the name, do you know what it is Psi?psi29a wrote:We have tested webroot's Spysweeper, sunbelt's counterspy, and pest petrol.. a few others as well. Psi: It was annouced on CNET a long time ago, but I forgot the name. It was like a global annoucement made to all the users. I know about the antivirus campanies generating viruses...otherwise there wouldn't be any need for the programs. My only query is why there is a Norton NTvirus for Mac...
