What kind of connection do you have?

Post by psi29a »

Just wanted to figure out the percentage of board users who have what type of connectivity, out of couriousity. ^_^

bps == bits per second 33.6 modem is 33,600 bits per second on dialup modem.

kbps == kilobits per second, 33.6 modem is 33.6kbps

mbps == megabits per second, 33.6 modem is .0336mbps

Cable and DSL typically ranges from 256kbps to 4mbps depending on location.

Campus and Works used leased lines like T1, T3, OC3, and higher. 1.544mbps.

Cox Cable has about 3 bonded T1s, 3x1.544 == 4.632mbps which is shared among the people in my community. Yeah, bit-torrent is fun... :P

i have three types of connections, so i don't know wich to choose

1- cable 640 / 128 on my granny's house
2- 56k isdn on my father's house
3- T3 (i think) on my campus (i spend about 10 - 12 hours a day on campus so my brand new laptop is a must for me)

I just got Comcast cable, so I am on a 4Mb connection now. Way better than that shitty Juno 56k crap I had before. I will never go back. Never.

Man it's hard to go for a t1 connection back to DSL. When I lived on campus I used to download Video at 4000-8000 kbps. Now i'm lucky if I hit 200.
