I finally got around to importing Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, and if it's not as good as everyone says it is, pain will be administered to "everyone".

Well I hate that waste of volume with pain only the native gods can dish out. It's my glorified saucer, but a regular saucer is still more entertaining.
Xenosaga is good... but Xenosaga II.... dude... you might want to get it to continue on with the story... But its like playing Devil May Cry II after playing Devil May Cry I
Xenosaga I and II are shit compared to Xenogears. Hell, I don't even like Xenogears, but I can tell ya it is far more entertaining than Xenosaga I and II.

This man speaks the truth. Xenogears is a lot more condensed and it can stand as a single game. You lose a lot in Episode II if you haven't played the first game. The story in Xenosaga has potential and, if it's anything like Xenogears, the story should start picking up by Episode IV, if they get that far of course. I hear Episode II did less than what Namco was expecting sales-wise.
Bottom line is, Xenogears has arguably the best video game story evar, and Xenosaga doesn't come close, even with two games worth of content.
I never really found Xenogears enjoyable per se, just standard RPG stuff, but the story just about ownz any game out there. The only RPG that I've played that I truly consider enjoyable is Chrono Trigger, still my vote for best RPG evar.
Speaking of RPGs, and getting back on-topic, my PS2 is currently holding Digital Devil Saga. It's a little too simplistic, but it's got some nice themes going on.

Word, Chrono Trigger is the beez kneez. Other RPGs I consider superb because of gameplay and story is Panzer Dragoon Saga and Phantasy Star IV. And let us not forget Vagrant Story, Famitsu gave it 40 out of 40 for a reason folks. In my opinion VS owns every RPG on PSone evar.
Chrono Trigger does not have the best story, music, characters, graphics- but there is not a single part of that game that falls below the "good"-mark; Chrono Trigger is the best, most well-balanced RPG ever.
I'm approaching the end of Xenosaga: Episode 1 now. Is it just me, or has absolutely jack shit happened in the game, plot-development-wise?
Anyway, the cutscene where MOMO encounters Albedo after tripping over corpses makes that whole game worth playing.
The animé may have spoiled me story-wise, so I hope Episode 2 gets on with it. But considering what I've heard about it, I may not even buy it. -_-;;
