Yes, I've talked to a couple of my friends regarding this, and when I got home, I had a chat with some people on IRC on this topic as well.
It's kind of old news, there's alot of media attention about it in Australia. I was watching the 'public's opinions' and interviews, the things they said really pissed me off.
Here's what the mother said:

. but yea the mom seems like a bitch (and a lil racist but maybe not) but when your daughter is sentanced to 20 yrs in prison...
oh, i decided to see if it would be a good idea to localize all the national and world news into one thread. though it might get cluttered...

The defense was weak. All the evidence points to her being guilty, and all the defense could do was provide 'witnesses' that had little to do with the case and other material based on circumstancial and hearsay. It was very much like, 'look in the eyes of this eye. Do you think she's guilty?' She was doomed to begin with. I think the public right now in my country are really overreacting. I'll post a quote from a newspaper article tomorrow, once I get some sleep.

Either she is in shock from the verdict, trying to comfort her family, dead sure she will get off after the appeal, or guilty and accepting of her sentence. She gets 20 years and all she has to say is "Just relax. It's OK"? Something isn't right there. If I were Innocent, and still had the emotion and energy to do it, I would be crying my eyes out in the fetal position on the floor. But then again, I guess I have no idea really what she has been going through.

It's Indonesian laws, it's not quite the same as Western countries. Carrying just a little amount could result in the death penalty. It's either: Death Penalty or Life Sentence. And she got off with 20 years. The prosecution's complaining that the sentence is too light, and they made an appeal. Usually, with cases like these, it's the death penalty, but because of Australian and Indonesian relations, she recieved a relatively 'light' sentence.Devil_Dante wrote:Anyway, she's fucked. 20 YEARS <---> 4 kilograms. C'mon, it was totally not worth it.
