Mass amounts of gore/blood don't bug me, depends on how 'detailed' it is.

Though one thing that irks me with sites like the one posted is that its ALWAYS women, always always always. I mean, sheesh, it's like... just, eh. Maybe that's just me? I don't mind the morbidness, just that it usually involves women.

People relate grotesqueness to two things: sexual impulses, and gore. I think this has to do with Primal Instinct and how today's world is extremely censored, sanitized, and for some people, emotionally dead. So for the sake of reliving instinct, they take the two main things that are supressed in society today (sex and violence) and raise it to new, disgusting levels that force you to feel. Why women and not men? Probably because the artists themselves are often men, and a little because the female body is seen as something more beautiful in our society. Destroying something beautiful has more impact (think crushing a cockroach vs. crushing a butterfly).

Yeah, you make really good points.

I guess what I'm getting at is...

I enjoy mobirdness. Gore kicks ass. Sexual situations bug me, 'cause I dunno', I'm a mushy guy and I don't like seeing cute girls mutilated. I'd just like to see an artist who does gore of both guys and women, but in the same taste. I dunno, like some kind of mutilated bishi, not some old flaccid guy...

I really don't like where this conversion is going.

As for my take on the most disturbing moments in berserk, it's a tie between Vol 13's Guts crying over the deaths of all friends in the bank of the hawk, with blood coming out of his wounded eye, and vol 23's Caska getting torn up by the Beast.
