AKIRA

Post by halfnhalf »

Ok, so everyone seeing this topic are all gonna be like, "WTF halfnhalf??? you some stupid idiot?!?! Akira is a damn movie! This should be in the Anime section." Ok, maybe you wont say that, but anyways, it's pretty much asumed that when you hear the phrase "anime movie" everyone would mostly think AKIRA. Now i think everyone has their own theories on wtf akira is or what the whole movie is about, but guess what... I HAVE THE FUCKING ANSWER!!! Its called the manga books (or graphic novels in this case). The manga ranges at 6 volumes, roughly 400 pages each. It goes soooo much more indepth then what the movie did, and is unbelievably godlike. Practically all questions from the movie are answered in the manga.

There's my rant, not go read the Akira manga. And if you have, shame on you for not telling anyone about it!

heh, just had to get that off your chest huh.... anyways i usually find that the manga of an anime has a lot more room to elaborate on details/storylines.

Where have you been? the movie is pretty old, but when it came out, it was like a shock. people were all like... you can have gore in cartoons?

As for the manga books, Dark Horse relased them with english translations (go to your nearest comic book store, they should have them) or you can just pm me and i can show you where to get it.

The movie is great, though the gore and stuff shocked the american audiences, one of its biggest factors was the animation. It was one of the first high budget anime projects, and first to really have main stream success in the US. Think the original Vampire Hunter D, the animation was not the highest quality, but Akira showed what anime could reallly do. It also had a great story, cool action, and violence.

I live in Belgium, we don't have anime channels on tv, only if you have a satellite or Canal +. But they never showed Akira on tv.

And the nearest comic store is 6Km away from here, and they even don't sell manga there. Only DBZ and one other, can't really remember which.

Actually in the states Akira manga as well as even berserk manga you can by in any bookstore. My local borders(big ass book store) has a whole manga section. Its larger than the comic book section which I find funny. Shows you which is actually better for the most part.

I don't think Akira got to play on TV. America is strict with its censorship. I think MTV might have played it late at night though. I know it used to advertise like crazy on MTV. I know it was MTV who pretty much who helped bring it over to the states, but I still don't think they actually aired it, just ran adds for it, and promoted it in other ways too. Man I miss the day when MTV was quality entertainment, full of angst and was actually counterculture. Now it just sucks.

i was exposed early to anime when i was quite young through a cousin that was in his teens/college while i was still in 7th grade.

when i saw akira the movie what was stunning at the time was the animation, its a real classic.

now image if they could do something like that thru the eyes of the manga. something like what lord of the rings did with the trilogy. that would be truly mind blowing.

Akira is definitely a must! It was the first manga published in France and it's now a classic. But I was disappointed about the movie : ok, it's technically great but the storyline is a just a little part of the manga. So READ IT (if you find it).

Ok I make a tread I’ve searched for but couldn’t before hand (and still can’t) flame city nood this noob that, and this guy makes a tread that still inexistence and you all play along?......wow. Akira movie ah ok, MANGA boss and a half plus one! And I take offense to Arresty comment, Vampire Hunter D for when it was made was boss and 2 half’s plus three. And sir it still is. The new one ?Blood lust? It was ok I liked the story but it felt like a different kind of movie sort of hard to explain. End result Akira Great Manga, good Movie. Vampire Hunter D Great anyway you can get it!

WTF are you trying to say?!

*re-reads sentence three times using various reading methods*

Oh, that thread you just necroed earlier? Don't really care much about it. Hasn't been posted for about 4 months until you necroed it.

Probably because your last addition to a necroed thread was "I agree" which was close to worthless. SPAM!

damdam on the other hand, posted a paragraph that was legible and had more of an explanation.

Do _YOU_ even use spell check that I have offered for you right below where you type to validate your text?

If you can't keep up, it is best you stay out of the conversation.

Personally, I don't care. If it makes you feel any better, I'll move the other thread in the bucket, or delete it whole.

Not only that, the template you are using isn't even the default template. So that was your fault for changing.

Spell check hack is only being updated with the default template and sometimes the bbtech if necessary.

All of this is trivial however, because it is just common sense that you spell check your work before you post it for the world to see. If I take the time do it, so should you.

Remember, take your time and be descriptive. I'm glad you used photobucket.com :D
