Yeah, your right, Griffith's sword had a hilt more like a rpaier and it gives it that saber feel. However, a katana is a two handed sword. The one in the pic seems to look more like a one handed sword. Dunno, guess we will only know if Starnum tells us himself.
most katanas are shorter swords and can be weilded with one hand, but i believe in most styles the wielder uses two. Nodachi's are the long version of katanas that require two hands i think, not 100% sure though.

Oh, well I’d be happy to answer that. First of all, Ksi is ¼ Japanese, ¼ white, and ½ angel. Anyway, he was raised in Kyoto Japan, and that’s why he does indeed use a katana. His English style clothes come from the fact that he is broad minded, so when he’s powered up, he has an old school gothic style.

As for katana, they were originally used with two hands. However, Musashi states that they should be used with one, while wielding the short sword or wakazashi with the other hand. Other people agreed with this, or just used a katana with one hand alone. It’s a light weight weapon, so with practice it can be just as efficient, and one hand has it’s practical uses. I use my katana primarily with both hands, because I can get more power that way. I’m referring to myself, not Ksi. Ksi will just bust out with whatever works best at the time. Anyway, I have practiced with one, and like I say, it’s not that hard to get the motion down. I still revert to both hands though, especially for a good power strike. As for Griffith, he does use a saber, of course. Sabers are similar to katana, but I don’t think they’re as lethal, but perhaps I’m biased. Anyway, both sword types are generally about a meter long, and as Ketheric said, a nodachi is generally four feet and up. Some actual nodachi have been seven or eight feet long, if not nine. Yeah, it’s crazy to use one of those with one hand, but it has been done. Heh, I’m a sword fanatic, so I’ve studied the different types and styles extensively. However, the only styles I’ve actually practiced are kendo and western swordsmanship with a broadsword. So, good eye on noticing that stuff in the pic Buz. You can't necessarily see the entire hilt of his katana, which is named Seiken, but I assure you it is intended to be a badass samurai sword. Heh, an Oowaza Mono (Named Sword) even.

I like it! Very stylized. I'd like to see it finished though, I wouldn't think so greatly about it, if it were the final piece. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished.

We'll be looking forward to them.:D

EDIT: I suggest that you use photobucket if your are going to be posting more stuff though. It's good to keep everthing in one place, instead of having 765431+ links to various images. Registration is easy and it's free, so yeah, it's better than imageshack, except for that 250KB upload limit that is.

I've mentioned it twice already, but I guessed you missed it on both occasions. It was colored entirely in Photoshop. The reason why the color has some texture in it and is not entirely clean is because I never cleaned up the drawings, so the some of the layout work is still in there.

Great stuff. As I said very stylized and original, and I'm digging the hair in the last drawing you posted. Is Yoshitaka Amano one of your heroes, BTW? Your drawings remind me of his stuff for some reason.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing, his drawings feel kinda Amano styled.

Great stuff though Laurel. :P

I actually drew that before I knew about Amano. I didn't notice my style was similar to his.... I guess now I know why he's my fave artist. Speaking of whom I did this for collage. we were supposed to do a self portrait in the style of an artist we chose and I did this. Got a good mark on it too. I did it like two months ago. I drew it by hand but fixed it up on the comp to make it look like a print.

Man, that's really nice, wish I could see the actual pencil lines, or how is it that you do your stuff exactly?

And yeah, the last one in particular has Amano written all over it.

Well, first I drew the important stuff in pencil. I didn't bother filling in places cause you can do that easily on the comp. I scanned it and used Hue and Saturation mostly to make it look like ink. Then I just filled in areas I wanted black and then filled in the colors I wanted.
