Blaster Knuckle
Cool little series, only three volumes long. Largely inspired by Berserk as far as we can tell. Though that's to be expected since Wazarai Shizuya is one of Miura's high school buddies and former assisstant.
Summary:
Take yourself back to the 1880s where the KKK is thriving and the African American community lives in fear. The African Americans don't fear the KKK simply because they beat, rape, and kill them. No. They fear the KKK because the KKK eats them. They are the aptly named man-eaters, a kind of mix between werewolves and vampires. They consume human flesh, can shapeshift into various forms, and are practically immortal. Only one man, an ex-heavyweight boxer named Victor Freeman, dares to stand up to them. Equipped with a small arsenal and a set of modified brass knuckles, can our hero defend his people and avenge his past?

Any else seen how awesome the art is when its a fight? Reminds me alot of early Berserk art.

Re: Blaster Knuckle
You know, I always laugh everytime I see Victor's full name.
Victor FREEMAN. God, I hope that was intentional Mr. Wazarai.

Re: Blaster Knuckle
Haha it must be intentional seeing the time the story is set in.

Of course it was intentional, heh. I wonder if he's kin to Morgan.

Re: Blaster Knuckle

It's like watching a b-flick, but I am not bored. This has turned my dreary day upside down. Buster Knuckle has my encouragement.

Re: Blaster Knuckle
I'm definitely down with it, thanks for Volume 2!

Re: Blaster Knuckle
It's too bad the manga ends with volume three, but it was still pretty entertaining.
Trust me, I'm a doctor!
Re: Blaster Knuckle
Such a great manga! Too bad it was so short
But well, I prefer a short one over an extremely long one.
Do you know any other titles by this author? He seems pretty capable.

Re: Blaster Knuckle
Wazarai Shizuya is also the author of an ongoing series in Young Animal called Cestvs, currently unscanlated though.
RAWs: http://zin-seinen.vnmanga.com/series/cestvs
That site has about all of the chapters and volumes (except for maybe the latest 3 which I'm grabbing at some point).
Setting, ancient Rome, the time of the child Emperor Nero. It's about a slave kid who has to fight (think Colosseum) to survive. He's also been taught the ancient art of boxing (har) by another older prisoner, and needs 100 victories to win his freedom.

Re: Blaster Knuckle
Oh, this sounds very interesting to me, I'm going to check it out.
Re: Blaster Knuckle
Maybe a new project for EG? If it's anything like Blaster Knuckle, it should fit in the category of dark themed seinen manga.
Re: Blaster Knuckle
Actually, I did mention it to the other guys in our new projects thread (hidden in the vortex). Haven't gotten any replies yet though, so we'll see.

Re: Blaster Knuckle
I've only just managed to read Vol. 3. It's a good end but for some reason the demons felt a bit weak in that final battle.
Re: Blaster Knuckle
Yeah, I kind of felt that as well. But I saw it more as Wazarai planning to go on for longer, but being told that this would be the end and not having enough chapters to make them seem any stronger. Which sucks, but what can you do?Brainpiercing wrote:I've only just managed to read Vol. 3. It's a good end but for some reason the demons felt a bit weak in that final battle.
If I wasn't backed up in my own translations I'd offer my services to help out. I'd love to see Cestvs scanlated.Starnum wrote:Actually, I did mention it to the other guys in our new projects thread (hidden in the vortex). Haven't gotten any replies yet though, so we'll see.
