Re: Movies of 2007
Did someone else feel like there was a lot of product placement on Transformers? The Mountain Dew vending machine, eBay, GM cars, and I don't know what else. I bet they said eBay more times than autobots or decepticons. The product placement wasn't as severe as with I, Robot, but it still felt like they sold out for this movie. I suppose that's the price they have to pay to have that many special effects.
Here's my favorite quote from I, Robot:
"Converse All-Stars, vintage 2004"

and with the car product placement
. I guess the product placement fit well with him trying to hawk all his stuff during his class presentation.

Re watched "Kung-fu Hustle" after I saw "Pirates of....3" and I have to say that Kung-Fu is a masterpiece in comedy

I didn't really like Kungfu Hustle very much. The special effects were -too- cheesy for me.

Re: Movies of 2007
Evan almighty was a waste of money, it had some funny parts but Bruce almighty was far better and funnier. I knew I should've watched Harry Potter instead...

Re: Movies of 2007
Hah, I expected as much. I on the other hand, did see Harry Potter instead. I took my wife to go see it. It was actually pretty good. Well, the fight at the end was definitely cool looking. I told her we could see Transformers or Die Hard if she wanted, even though I've already seen them, but she really wanted to see the Order of the Phoenix. By the way, Sirius Black is my dawg!

Re: Movies of 2007
Harry Potter was pretty nice, and I kind of expected it, since the book had a much darker tone then the others.
Trust me, I'm a doctor!

Saw Ratatouille (Or how you spell it) and it was funny at times.

Yeah, I think it's because the kids who first started reading those books (around that same age) had also gotten older. Thus the books started to get a bit darker, and that's why we've upgraded to PG-13 ratings on the last movie, as the target audience has gotten a bit older, I guess. Hell, I'd like to see a rated R Harry Potter movie.
How old is Harry supposed to be in this movie anyway, 16 I guess? I believe they said it was legal for a wizard to use magic out of the school if they're 17 or older. I imagine the actor's like maybe a year older than that. They really need to make a movie each year if they don't want the original actors to get too old looking, heh. I think they're supposed to only be two more books/movies anyway though, right?

So i saw 1408 after a friend told me it was really good, but yah it was thrilling, but leaves that dryness in your mouth. It provides no closure, or maybe that is like all Stephen King stories.

Re: Movies of 2007
Does it at least infer some kind of conclusion?
Re: Movies of 2007
1408 has a normal Stephen king ending, you dont understand why and how things happened.
Although the first hour or so is pretty good

Re: Movies of 2007
its more of one of those endings where everything that you just watched didnt happen, or it could have happened, but in the end it only exist to create a story that could not be real.

Watched Death Proof. I have to say, while it's far from Kill Bill and some other of Tarantino's great achievements, it's still a damn good B-Movie full of Tarantino's dialogue, hot girls, and over the top characters. Not to mention car chases, car stunts, and car crashes.

Machete looked promising...
Re: Movies of 2007
Yeah, same here. I was kind of disappointed with Deathproof, even though I'd rather watch it then most things. To me there was too much talking at first, and it wasn't really good Pulp Fiction conversation either. I just started to get bored waiting for the action to start, I mean especially after you've just finished watching Planet Terror. Also, the end of the movie was a let-down for me. I feel that Kurt Russel totally got jipped on that. *shrugs*Buzkashi wrote:I personally liked planet terror more but i have a soft spot for zombies.

Re: Movies of 2007
Naw, the whole point was that he could only get off on his power fantasies, and those only worked as long as he was "death-proof" inside his car. Once out, he was done for. I still would have liked to see what happens when the girls take the car back to Jasper, and what happened to Lee. I was a little disappointed they left her behind, because that actress is so fucking pretty.
Unfortunately here we couldn't see it as Grindhouse, so no Planet Terror, yet. Perhaps it will come later, but then, Tarantino can make a B-Movie take a feature spot in Germany, Robert Rodriguez can't, for some reason. It might never make it to the big screen here.

Re: Movies of 2007
From my understanding Deathproof was a tribute to the many womens rights and car movies of the 70's. These movies typically featured endings with women coming out triumphant over males. As can be seen in the ending of deathproof. The car movies of the 70's typically focuses so much on the actual car scenes that there was typically little funds left over for the rest of the movie. To counter this they filled the rest of the movie with lengthy takes of ongoing dialogue.

I personally thought deathproof sucked. I however did LOVE planet terror. Machete looks great as well.

NARUTO + BLEACH doesn't even come close to the BEST MANGA= ONE PIECE

Re: Movies of 2007
I think Deathproof had better direction than planet terror. And the mood was perfect. It was an absolute tribute to 80's road movies.

Evan Almighty: I don't generally go for this sort of thing, but I didn't leave vomiting from the cutsey happy and the kids enjoyed it.
Transformers: Umm... product placement debates? Did someone miss the point? Transformers are one of the original cartoon/product tie-in lines... what did you expect? The special effects were solid, the story line didn't suck too much and I was entertained.
Live Free or Die Hard: Yes! Yes! I love a good action film with trite and cliche'd comedic comebacks. Bruce Willis didn't let me down one bit.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix: Dark enough, closely followed the book but obviously not 100%. Interesting character developements. It holds up under multiple viewings. I will add it to my collection once it's on DVD.
1408: I only like a specific type of "horror" mostly dealing with the paranormal. I would rank this one with the 6th Sense and The Others for the twists in the plot. At one point, the film makers failed to make me suspend my disbelief, but recaptured it with all haste.
If I view anymore movies this season, I will report my findings at once! (or not, as is my want.)

MsNomer in another area outside of current events and politics? astonishing
. but i agree with you on the product placement. GMC was all over Transformers. Though i think some degree of product placement makes movies more realistic and easier to associate with. For example, the Mountain Dew vending machine. I loved that scene, but i think it would have lost some impact (or had a negative one) if they used made up some generic name. So to an small extent i think product placement is beneficial to movies (to a reasonable degree).
