[Evil_Genius] new home!

Post by psi29a »

Well after a false start, the Forums now have a new home.

It took 30 minutes longer than expected because the folks that built the server for me set the timer to CMT... and that is plain evil since the Forums run on GMT time making it impossible to create a post in the past (thanks to flood protection).

Anywho, issue resolved and we have a new home!

The good news is that my costs don't fluxuate any more, I have a set rate of $75/month and a set block of bandwidth that is use or loose it.

Fine by me! :D

This gives me options, like... perhaps using a file-attachment mod for the forum that allows EG to post Berserk chapters that you can download from the forums.... wooooo.. novel I know. :P

So, any questions?

What kind of bandwidth block are you pushing for the month?

Also, maybe allow user attached images. Of course limit the filesize, also based on the bandwidth you use on average yadda yadda.

My average bills on the Colo was 'bout $3 per GB over initial $10 for hosting w/ 1GB of bandwidth. Mindwerks used up about 30GB per month, which is mostly forum traffic anyway.

I now have 1TB per month w/ .50 cent per additional GB over the limit.

After things settle, I'll look at my baseline and see what is and is not feasable.

I think that's the best choice.

Hosting the chapters on the forums would be nice, but torrents and direct downloads have been working fine so far.

I don't see a lot of people complaining about the way downloads are handled here.

With Femto on that one. 1TB is a shitload if you're used to doing 30GB/mo but you don't want to add a feature that'll grow too quickly and out of control.

that is what http://gallery.evil-genius.us is for. Why make things overly complicated when you can use tools that are ready made and serve a specific purpose.

Maybe tie that in somehow with an 'attachment' button when you hit reply?

yes i was refering to this kind of a function. the upload of the AV has its own function built into the forum. but i noticed the sig and post images do not have this.

i wasnt referring to an image hosting function.

Yeah, a mod exists for this somewhere. On a cell phone forum I used to frequent, the limit was something like 50k for sigs and 300k for in-post images. Anything else you were on your own to host.

The signature was originally meant to be text only, I added the bbcode to the signature which allows signatures.

I'm afraid I have no clue what you're talking about, nor do I have any idea why you decided to necro this thread.
