Hayao Miyazaki

The latest and greatest of Japanese Animation. Found something new, or perhaps old and arcane... if it has to do with anime, it goes right here.

I heart Miyazaki

I have seen:

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Porco Rosso
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle

Other Studio Ghibli movies I have seen but not directed by Miyazaki:
Grave of the Fireflies
Only Yesterday
Pom Poko
My Neighbors the Yamadas
Whisper of the Heart
The Cat Returns

Miyazaki was also involved in making Lupin III: Castle Cagliostro

Nausicaa is my favorite one, it will be available on dvd at the end of this month along with Porco Rosso and The Cat Returns. I recommend all of Miyazakis movies, but I didn't care for Kiki's. It wasn't bad, just not as good as all his others.

Out of the other Ghibli movies, I think everyone should see Grave of the Fireflies. Only Yesterday was boring. Pom Poko is entertaining if you like racoon looking things with magic testicles. I don't really remember My Neighbors the Yamadas, so it must not have been that good. Whisper of the Heart was alright. The Cat returns was pretty good, it had some funny moments, so I would recommend it.

Oh, and Howl's Moving Castle will premier in the US on June 10th and an expanded release will be on June 17th.
