Berserk 313 and Zetman 148

  » Posted July 6th, 2010 by arke

Sons of Berserk! Of Zetman! My brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our mangakas, and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day.
An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Berserk comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we READ!
By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you download, Fans of the Berserk!

    Thsnks a lot!!!

  34. OC Says:

thank you eg, how we would despair without you

  35. Kain Says:

    Thanks a lot, nice chapter.

Still I don’t understand why we have this ‘Mystery Island’ story, even if it probably will be a good one. Berserk has been so slow that I just wish they were in ElfHell already, we will just have a beautiful fight with no progress on the main story, that’s depressing. Will we ever see the end of Berserk in our lifetime ?

  36. Hollow Says:

Is this only me remind a Cthulhu/Dagoon mith?

  37. Thana Says:

Good point, Kain. But I’ve a feeling that something major will happen at the conclusion of this arc. I don’t think this is just a filler. I can’t wait for Elfheim too, though…

  38. Dass Jennir Says:

Kain, there aren’t fillers arcs in Berserk until now.
So i doubt this one will be the first.

  39. Karas Says:

    Thank you EG! :D

  40. IRNINJ4 Says:

@Kain, yeah I think by the end of this arc will see whats really going on. and ElfHiem will be one of the biggest peaks of the story I think. So I can’t wait for them to get there.

I think when they do get there though somehow someone will have some crazy magic powers their to heal casca she will be still a little messed up but soon she will be ready to fight along side everyone else. Guts & Co. will all gain some new equipment or upgraded versions of the stuff that schierke’s masters gave them.

Anyways It’s going to epic cant wait =D

  41. Kd Says:

    thanks EG. Was awesome WOOT!

  42. john Says:

thanks EG!! I love ya :D

  43. wildwill Says:

hey ! thank you so much ! I didn’t believe it when I saw it ! miura .. fucking bastard ! the story is so interesting , that the pain for waiting is really somethink ! >< !

  44. seishi Says:

    thanks EG!!!

  45. black87 Says:

Wait, I’m still dreaming right? Berserk 313? Is that really you?

  46. docky Says:

oh thx a lot guys ! really happy to have some news from berserk !
but now I feel like an alcoholoic who just got a sip of wine after 3 months dry. I just need more ! :)
anyway, continue the great work !

  47. Dex Says:

Finally, Berserk time! Thanks EG :D

  48. Kain Says:

‘Kain, there aren’t fillers arcs in Berserk until now.
So i doubt this one will be the first.’

fillers arcs are plenty in Berserk since the eclipse and Griffith becoming Femto. The butterfly/elf girl-apostle ? Nice but useless. The tower full of refugees and the crazy priest ? Same, griffith could have just come back. The trolls invasion ? If the apostle had just attacked the witch house it would have been the same.

I don’t mind them, some are unbelievably great, and they make berserk such a complex and moving saga but if this island is just to show the world has changed, come on! Miura will be dead before guts finaly fuse with his armor and kicks griffith ass/becomes the beast that destroy reality, or whatever magnificent ending he has in store for us.

ElfHell is what is supposed to bring new development in the story. Especially the coming back of Caska, which should be legendary. Maybe there will be a big twist, but I think Mermaid/Sea God are just in the way. I hope I am wrong…

  49. CrackoWitcho Says:

S’how I feel, too. There are too many long-standing plot elements that are unresolved, and any chapter that isn’t a direct step towards resolution feels like filler to me.

  50. inim Says:

Thanks EG. An update with both Berserk and Zetman makes me a happy guy!

  51. Tibs Says:

I hate you for giving me hope. Not only Berserk but Claymore as well — it is fake -_-’

As always, thanks for more Zetman.
10X that thanks for Berserk, that was an interesting chapter.
Gorgeous art as always, and it’s nice to see Guts carving things in half to boot.

  54. matgaudio Says:

but the suprise, 9th july, so Miura stopped being a lazy bastard for a while, thank God

    ELFHELM ELFHEEEEEEELM !!!!

  57. IRNINJ4 Says:

    @Tibs
Man why the hell would you show us something like that! I’ve never seen a bigger cock tease in my life!

  58. argyle Says:

Oh, bless thee, Evil Genius, for the sacred ointment with which thou cleanse the lack of releases away from this tormented soul…

  59. Good_Fool Says:

Haha, that was Aragorn’s speech from Lord of the Rings. Miura should better finish Berserk or he’ll end up like Tolkien.

  60. CG Says:

Well, July 9th was still ~20 days from when this chapter was published (~june 20th). I guess it’s better than the 100+ days we’ve been waiting lately. Thanks for the quality release!

  61. Dass Jennir Says:

    Next Chapter:
Gatts find The Call of Cthulhu :D :D

  62. Ujujinsan Says:

Yeah 9th July? Who do you think I am to fall for these tricks!

  63. geroprog Says:

Thank you for both Berserk, and Zetman!
ANd we will get 315 in two weeks. July 23rd.

  64. dude223 Says:

Great issue. I love how creepy page 12-13 is and then bam, page 16. Awesome Miura. Thanks EG.

  65. random person Says:

Yeeeeah, that’s about the fakest schedule ever created, what with it being EVERY SINGLE SEQUEL AMERICAN FANS HAVE EVER WANTED ALL IN ONE SEASON.

Still, I was pleased with this chapter, and protest the idea that somehow this is “filler”… the only way you could argue that this is “filler” is if you believed the only plot point that mattered was Guts fighting Griffith, which could have happened five chapters after the end of the Eclipse — and Guts would’ve lost, miserably. No, everything is just him building up to the point where he will be ABLE to face Griffith and kick his ass. That’s taking a while, but when you’re trying to kill a veritable deity, that’s to be expected.

  66. CrackoWitcho Says:

Guts needs mermaids and filler battles to defeat Griffith?

  67. random person Says:

Well, maybe not necessarily mermaids. But learning how to kill tons of other supernatural creatures, while gradually getting stronger, gaining allies, plus a kickass suit of armor? You also need to remember that GRIFFITH has been making moves all the while as well, he hasn’t just been waiting around for Guts to kill him.

When I was just reading back chapters, none of this felt like filler; it only felt “slow” when it got… well, slow, i.e. a trickle of chapters rather than steady updates and action. Nothing has happened in a year not because nothing of relevance happened but because all of three chapters came out.

  68. Henrik Says:

A big F U to whoever created that fake anime schedule.

  69. CrackoWitcho Says:

I do understand how battling hordes of monsters is crucial, but I feel it’s been adequately explained in the past. I remember the Retribution arc, when Guts was losing his mind to the constant horrowshow his life had become, and the prospect that beating a monster like Griffith might require he become a worse monster was put out there. I thought the struggles he had with his inner demons were far more fascinating than anything he fought in the flesh… aside from fighting Zodd maybe, but that was evidence that his horrowshow life -had- prepared him for fighting Griffith’s personal guard, if not Griffith himself. I doubt anything in the way of demon slaying will prepare him for that. I hope that Guts’ Behelit will come in to play there, honestly.

  70. CrackoWitcho Says:

    Typo’d “horrorshow” twice >_<

  71. GhostUnit Says:

Yet another new side story no one cares about + “funny” filler. Yay.

  72. random person Says:

eh, Cracko, that’ll sort of come out at the end, won’t it? How much of this comes together to lead up to a finale, how much of it was Miura dragging his feet; maybe I’ve just read too much Urasawa Naoki, but I tend to assume that random story lines will eventually wind up being relevant at some point.

  73. OuterRem Says:

Maybe I’m easy to please but, I like seeing how vast their world is… And now, thanks to the Wind of Change, it’s become even more amazing. The world of high fantasy is… colliding at high speeds with the world of Berserk, which in itself was already multi-layered since most people didn’t perceive it at the depths that Gutts was forced to, after the Eclipse.

This is simply an example of the consequences of Griffith’s ascension. Legends are coming to life! Mythic Demon-Gods that were only stories before now walk the Earth! Apostles at least were not something everyone was forced to interact with, but the Wind of Change will shatter everyone’s normal lives. And it doesn’t have to all be negative either. Some myths are, wonderful after all.

  74. NONAME Says:

    Finally more Berserk! Thankyou.

  75. Adavanter Says:

I can’t help but look at Caska in every single panel thinking… Soon. How in the hell is she going to take it. Her memories I mean.

I know I remember it like it was yesterday… damn Berserk sure is epic.

  76. Karas Says:

Maybe Caska will become more aggresive, or mad (crazy mad) in some way, or some soppy emo person. There’s a reason why people supress their memories when something terrible has happened to them in the past. Yet shrinks tend to think that people should bring these supressed memories back and deal with them. Which isn’t necessarily always the right thing to do. I’m not saying that Caska shouldn’t be brought back. I want her back from her freaking retarded state. However, when Caska comes back she may not be the same person whom she used to be =/

  77. Korci Says:

She can not be the same person even if she wishes to be. The main problem is for her love for Guts conflicting with her addiction towards Griffith. Ether way she betrays someone who is really precious for her. This is why Casca snapped, not because she was raped, or almost killed. The part being raped she enjoyed somewhere (because it was Griffith), but being watched by the half dead Guts while enjoying herself being raped was what she couldn’t bear. Love, hate, devotion, regret, submission, helplessness all mixed it that moment. Masterpiece. Part of me wishes for Casca to never return to her senses, because than she has a choice to make, a side to take. I can but wish for that side to be the side Guts and co are on…

  78. Thana Says:

She has to choose Gutts… Griffith is no more. He is Femto, an overpowered demon. Plus, he bones the Princess.

Well, we’ll see. I still don’t consider this arc as a filler. Just wait for the climax and the conclusion of this arc. Something important might happen.

    Kain mentioned so-called previous fillers:
The Elven apostle wasn’t meaningless… It showed a lot about Gutts’ character, driven by revenge and how ‘bad’ he could become. The fight led to his imprisonment and SK got his Behelith.
The Tower of Rebirth was a big build up for Griffith being reborn. Also Gutts got his team members because of this arc!
Troll Invasion. I think it’s about showing the new powers of the group. Also, Schierke would be dead if not sent to the mission. I don’t really think it was meaningless. Besides it was mentioned that those trolls are rather harmless. This shows what chaos the Hand of God brings to the world.

The same probably works for this arc. The Sea God seems to be an aftermath of Griffith creating his Utopia. This happens to the hole Berserk world currently and I’m afraid it leads to the conclusion, because the group should realize soon that Griffith/Femto is king of Midland and those creatures are his doing.
Just a guess, but we had this topic several times. That Berserk is drawing towards it’s end. At least it feels like that when you read it.

  79. gatts1aa Says:

damn can’t stop my tears …

  80. Legato Says:

New Berserk chapter for the 23th is confirmed?
    Very nice!

And it was R89 who came with the fake screen, not tibs…
It’s lame that they can’t or won’t make another Berserk anime even though it can never work since Miura won’t be finishing the manga before then.

  81. crowley Says:

we are not worth it.. we are not worth it.. kh kh

  82. Starnum Says:

@Korci: I seriously doubt Casca enjoyed being raped by a monster, regardless of the fact that it used to be Griffith. He’s no longer the same person, and he betrayed them all. Even if they were just tools to him, and they knew it, I personally wouldn’t (and can’t) forgive him for that. He’s got a long way to go to make amends for that, and I just don’t see that happening. I also think she’ll chose Guts over Griffith. However, there’s really no telling how she’s going to react, if she even recovers at all, that is. I’m really hoping something can be done for her on elf island though.

  83. Fred Says:

Maybe Miura has been debating with himself in the last 5 years whether or not to bring back the memories of Casca, hence the long delays and the long time for Gutts & Co to get to the elf island.

If Casca gets some of her memory back, that would be a major turning point in the story, just as important as the when Griffith turned to Femto. I wish something not expected happens and swerve the story into another direction.

For Gutts Behelit, I could not imagine what kind of demon could Gutts become… or turn into a Skull Knight 2…

  84. Korci Says:

    @Startnum

I think Griffith was like a deity for her. She would sacrifice her everything if he wanted to, even her beliefs or loved ones. Griffith for her was something unquestionable and all of her life she wished for Griffith to take her and use her, even as a woman. When it happened (even forcefully) she thought “if it’s Griffith than it’s all right”. She was already on the verge of being unstable at that time already, and that monster was Griffith in her eyes whom she idolized. It was something she wished for, even if not like this, and i think part of her was satisfied it finally happened. Maybe the word “enjoy” is a bit strong, but imo she definitely took some pleasure. While shocked with her friends deaths, she was almost torn to pieces, and sunk into a sort of apathy to escape from reality (she went to Casca’s happy place) when Griffith arrived and “saved” her, and even recognized her as a woman.

As for now, Femto looks like Griffith, speaks like Griffith, remembers everything Griffith did, so what if Casca accepts him as Griffith and chooses to follow him? Remember, Casca wasn’t following Griffith for fame or fortune, her only purpose was to satisfy him any means she could. When he needed a sword she became one. So what is Griffith still needs her? Maybe in time she could break free from the invisible chains she’s linked to him, but what is she has to chose on the spot? What if she remembers that Guts also tried to rape her and kill her (which he almost did)? Her choice wont be an easy one, and sure not an objective one. The best action would be to keep her chained and safe until she realizes and accepts the truth…
This sure is complex. It will be hard for Miura to stand up for the standards he himself set, when finally (in about 50 years) finishing the story. :)

  85. Sheepy-Pie Says:

Don’t forget that Griffith reborn used Caska’s child also so deep down there will be some sort of bond too.

  86. Legato Says:

    Need more berserk!

  87. Soleyfir Says:

Good news: there will be Berserk 315 in 2 weeks!

  88. Legato Says:

Hope 314 will be ready before that time =p
Seriously though, keep up the good work EG!

  89. iYomi Says:

@Korci In her state right now Casca’s like another person.
I do think that, if she ever gets her memory back,
she’s going to turn back to her old self,
    but without remembering anything,
what happened after that awful day.
It’s like amnesia to me like they said.
And I wonder if she took even a little pleasure in it,
I’d rather say she accepted it,
as for her she hardly could tell Gutts
“Don’t watch”, in the manga at least,
    what brought me to tears.

Thanks so much Evil_Genius for your clean work.

  90. Korci Says:

    @iYomi

Yes, I think you’re right about Casca only accepting it vs taking pleasure.
That scene was so socking, that after reading it I was staring the sealing for about 30 minutes without a word. Truly a masterpiece…hmmm… maybe it’s time for me to read it again from the beginning for the n-th time.

And about her memory… can’t wait to see the outcome (if we’re able to live that long) :)

  91. Kagato Says:

I will stick with what I had mentioned before, and say that when Caska regains her consciousness (memory?), I hope that along with a strong love for Guts and sorrow and shame for what he was forced to bear witness to as well as Guts’ endless efforts to keep her safe during her post-eclipse wandering, she feels a strong anger and desire for vengeance against Griffith. It would make sense, and would be a satisfying response, seeing as how her rape led to Guts’ lapse into madness and quest for vengeance, the corruption of her and Guts’ child, and the total annihilation of the Band of the Hawk.

Also, seeing as how Guts’ body and abilities have progressed further than any human could possibly attain, I would guess that exposure to the abyss has somehow evolved Guts and Caska into a new form, call it what you will, super human, ethereal or demonic, they are likely no longer normal humans. It would be fitting if, in Caska’s memory recall (I’m running out of terms for it), Guts was able to see the person he once was in her, a person possessed with vengeance and submersed in darkness; Guts, having mellowed into the calmer, more rational man that he is, would likely try to convince her to let the past go and grow old together far from Griffith’s influence, but Caska would not be stopped and would seek to make Griffith pay with or without accompaniment or approval. Guts would eventually resign to going with Caska in seeking vengeance against Griffith, both to keep safe the one he loves and make up for lost time.

Lastly, I feel that though Guts’ unique ability to use the berserker’s armor is a chillingly good element of the story, I think that it would be cool if Caska were given a similar armor, seeing as how a Caska consumed with vengeance would likely prove to be the very embodiment of a berserker. It would be interesting if not enthralling to see her rage and darkness feeding a demonic spirit/totem similar to Guts’ black wolf.

  92. Phireo Says:

Yep, new one out, and new one confirmed to be getting out on 23rd!

  93. Legato Says:

A chapter isn’t “out” until EG is done with it… =p

  94. zooba Says:

I always thought the behelit was something being saved for Caska. It’s just Guts’ luck to get sacrificed again when Caska goes bonkers after she gets her memories back and confronts Griffith.

  95. Legato Says:

so… when will it be out?

  96. MrTeatime Says:

and i for one hope that they take their time to get it right. No rushjobs, just because everybody is screaming for more, me included.

I for one is not sure that she will or should regain her memories. She is in a state of psychosis, wich among other reasons, occures when the mind can not handle reality and enters a state in wich it is safe.
Can Casca confront her memories, should she have to?
Their quest is for a elfhome, to keep her safe, not neccessarily to cure her.

I have through he manga wiewd it as the ultimate tradegy-play and are not expecting a happy ending (casca getting well for example). Only the death of griffit is certain…or is it?

  97. Pessimist Says:

I miss Casca. I really do. But Casca isn’t ever going back to the way she was.

It’s been a few years since the Eclips and in those few years Casca has been completely out of commission. No fighting, no weapons, no powers, nada. Even if they do make it to elfheim and her memories are restored she’ll be useless against the typical enemies that are being faced.

My guess? She’s going to die shortly after her memories are restored or nothing will be able to help her.

  98. Starnum Says:

I forget exactly where it was mentioned, but I’m pretty sure a sacrifice can’t use a behelit. So Guts and Casca are out of the question.

  99. Phireo Says:

Gatsu can’t get sacrificed again, though… his new companions can!

    Phireo

  100. gatsu Says:

    Thnx EG for everything!!!

  101. sol Says:

what does it mean next berserk continues on july 9th? its already 12th

  102. sol Says:

btw the first manga chapters was guts pretty young he met Puck and the fought the snake-man
but after the eclipse chapter guts met Puck when he was a little older and bigger ,than the first chapters, and it was when he fought moth-girl,so he met Puck this time in totally different circumstances
    why? what happened?

  103. stargood Says:

@ Pessimist, I think you are way off base about Casca dying. She is too central a character even in her current state. Her dying soon considering how much she and Guts have been though would put a damper on the story that it would never recover from. I don’t think Miura would do that to his life’s masterwork. He writes the manga to entertain his audience. Casca dying would almost certainly ruin the story for most everyone. :/ I’m looking forward to a new and improved Casca with the help of the Hanafu-Buku King.

  104. Spirit Of Yggdrasill Says:

Hehe I am still patiently waiting for 314 :-) And than combo read ;-)

  105. ImpacientGuy Says:

ok today is 12th.. where my berserk? end page say about 9th
give ma berserk mans, i almost die last in one car accident… lemme finich my life reading berserk.. i cannot die before miura over this saga…. Ò_Ó

  106. AnimaInvicta Says:

    @sol
Gatts’ childhood all the way up to the Eclipse was a giant flashback. The snake-man, meeting Puck et al happens between the Eclipse and the Butterfly-girl.
    @ everyone else
Once the current burst of drawing is over (probably after the coming episode, IMO), any bets on how long we will have to wait? 8^o

  107. DrPepperPro Says:

    @sol:
Guts never met Puck after the eclipse. He knew him from the beginning of the lost children arc.

  108. RedSamurai Says:

Or, a earthquake happens and everyone dies while sleeping! THAT would be a damn unexpected ending :)

Once again, thanks to all EG staff! Your efforts go beyond words…

  109. tsubaimomo Says:

    @ sol

You are referring to the appearance of Puck in volume 14, but notice that 2 years have passed since Guts left Godo’s place, which means that everything from volume 1-3 occurs sometime during those 2 years. Furthermore, when we see Puck, the dialogue makes it clear that Guts already knows him, so the only time Guts really meets Puck is in volume 1.
