Sound problem.

I did a Windows update. The updated was named "C-media" or something. Anyway, it pretty much messed up my sound. My sound quality isn't as clear as it was used to be (it pretty much ***** now). Anyone knows how to undo an update without formatting?

what operative system do you have? If you got win millenium or XP you can reset some days events and turn it back to as it was a few days ago.. on a sidenot it will remove all things you downloaded or changed in your windows.
Anyway:
Start -> Program -> Acessories -> Systemtools -> "Systemrestore" or something. Don't know what it's called in english

I see I can return to one week ago. .... dilemma.
Is there a way I can recall the date I did the update?

i doubt you would really need to get rid of the update. Find the brand of your sound and reinstall the drivers for it. Im pretty sure that would od the trick, if not then maybe it is your sound card itself that has been fried or something.

check your device manager and look for the device that is having trouble, right click properties and select roll-back driver.
That should take it back to the state in which it worked.
Rule of thumb with windows:
*if it works, don't upgrade it.
which leads you to the next rule:
*if forced to upgrade, hold the entity that is forcing you to upgrade acountable and sue them if it doesn't work.

By the way do you happen to have two soundcards? the c-media is a intergrated *dunno the spelling or the inflection* ;p I had some problem with my c-media when I had two soundcards. The only real sollution to solve the conflicts was to inactivate the c-media card in the bios..

I don't know anything about 2 sound cards. All I really know is that the update mutated my sound.
