Well pretty much made up my mind to go to asian filled UC Irvine (i'm a happa so i gues you can say im super minority). Prett cool school. and well just wonder where some of the seniors are going, or where some of you guys go to school at. Plus i got a couple of questions for you the people in college too.
like...
-laptop or desktop?
-do i really need a car my first year?
-etc...

I'm at the University of Michigan. It's pretty cool, except for the large numbers of preppy, elitist douches. Meh. They leave me alone, I leave them alone.
Computer- I got a desktop with a flat screen as an early grad present, and I like it. I don't see too many people with laptops in classes, and I just like having my regular comp with me at all times. To save space, I'd get a flat screen if you want a desktop, depending of the dorm situation there, you may need as much space as you can get.
Car- At U of M, Freshmen can't have cars, and most of the parking is God-knows how far from most classes. The bus system is really pretty good here, so I don't mind. I personally am going to wait till I get in a house or apartment to bring my car there. It all depends on the parking situation at your school.
Etc- Hmmm. I've got a few hints. Get Kraft Easy Mac. It is good, pretty cheap, and easy to make. Better yet if you can take the taste, get Ramen noodles. Super cheap, pretty good, and pretty easy to make. I'll post more if I can think of them.

Gerogia Tech
Laptop
And a car depends on the school. I woudl say yes either way, since I need a car, been addicted to mine since i was 16. Driving is the greatest escape for me, and the best way to get around. But it depends on the school.

damn quick replies. thanks for the input from you guys. At UCI they talk about meal plans, did you guys do that? what about food in the dorms, what did you manage to bring there?

I go to Henry Ford Community College, aka Hank High.
Car is totally school dependent. I need one, you probably don't Halfnhalf, just an assumtpion though.

We get meal plans at U of M. We also have this thing where meal credits can be used like cash at my dorm's store. The dorm food here is pretty good. All I really bring are drinks (Gatorade, Water), some snacks, Easy Mac,and popcorn

A lot of it depends on the school. Georgia Tech has the worst cafeteria food in the world, but if you are living in the dorms, I woudl recommend getting it, but not the biggest plan. Maybe only 1 or 2 meals a day.
Georgia Tech we couldn't have a car first year either(well first semester first year), and parkign is far away from the classes too, but I still parked mine off campus just so I coudl drive when i wanted to leave adn do something. My parents also live far away so I needed to have some sort of transportation.
Laptop to me is key, I actually have both, and with good reason, dammit, but honestly it depends on who you are. I am a computer person and need to computers, but if I was to just have one I woudl get a laptop. I like them better in alot of ways. The fact I can bring it to classes adn stuff is cool, I can browse the internet or chat instead of paying attention, or I can work in between classes. Laptop is key.

this is my senior year in high school. best college i've been accepted to so far is State University of New York @ Binghampton. I might go there. I've been waitlisted for Carnegie Mellon, so if i make it there, definitely go to Carnegie instead

State University of New York @ Maritime fort schyler bronx New york. Engineering major ( 3 A/E hopeful ) blah blah. 5th year I dont want to talk about my school. XD
Computer - AMD 2400+, 1gb + of ram, other crap I threw in a case and I have a computer. XD
Car - I don't have one yet. But the tolls would kick my ass anyway $4.50 each way is a bitch. Not to mention 2.10 for gas. lol

Well, I'm not American and I don't think I know where you are on the map if an atlas was handed to me
-Uni of QLD, it takes me a hour and a half to get there, there's only 3 uni's in my city, one's for dumbshits, the other ONLY excels in technology (but still a good uni), and UQ's the best uni there.
-I don't have a need for laptop.
-I catch the train and ferry, it's only 4 bucks AU for me. It'll be faster by car, but fuel prices are expensive as hell.

Gas is expesnsive, but I live off campus, and I am less than a 5 minute drive or a 20 something minute walk so I drive, too short for gas to matter too much, and I am way to lazy to care.

Hell, I'll drive too. It takes me 5 minutes to get to the train station from home, and an additional hour to get to the station to catch my ferry, and the ferry alone takes 20-30 minutes. It takes around 40-50 minutes by car (presuming it is clear of traffic), but oil's too damn expensive! Everytime I fill her up, about 40 bucks AU comes out of my pocket. I rather take public transport, 4 bucks covers ferry and train for a day.

Yeah, in your case it is much better to take public transpertation, but in my situation, I am at where the public transportation lets you off, so I figure why not drive. Besides Atlanta's public transportation is shitty.

That's why I love living on campus and being able to walk to class.
