I happened to be surfer google looking at swords and I came across this beauty.
Image
This sword is displayed at Zwinger-Museum in Dresden, Germany. I havent found out what the actully size is, but if you look at the surrounding picture you can get an idea. Also a thing to notice, unlike a flamberge which its handle length is roughly about a third of the blade
Image
this sword is a fourth of the blade. This is probably the closest thing to guts sword, pre dragonslayer, in real life.

This is where i found it. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/index ... rid=298040 I almost missed it because it looked almost normal.

Nice sword, but the blade isn't nearly wide enough to really compare it to the DS. >.>

That big one is a zweihander, or two-handed sword, and were found in Germany during the middle ages. It's a foot or so longer than the claymore William Wallace would have used.

No sword is wide enough to compare to the DS. Although it might be possible to find swords comparable to the earlier swords Guts used.

That guy is said to have the biggest sword, they write where it's located atm, and even his own biography is close to Gutts as they say:

"Approximately 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) to the north-east of Donia's village of Kimswerd, in the city of Franeker[9], the Black Band, a Landsknecht regiment in the service of George, Duke of Saxony was quartered. The regiment was charged with suppressing the civil war between the Vetkopers, who opposed Burgundian and subsequently Habsburg rule, and the Schieringers.
The Black Band were notorious as a violent military force; when their pay was insufficient or lacking, they would extract payments from local villagers[10] and on 29 January 1515, the Black Band plundered Donia's village, then allegedly raped and killed his wife, Rintze Syrtsema, and burnt to the ground both the village church and Donia's estate.[11][12] Seeking revenge, Pier started a guerrilla war campaign against the Habsburgs and allied himself with Charles of Egmond, Duke of Guelders (1492–1538), the foremost opponent of the Habsburgs\\'"

His image is also reminding Gutts - the way he holds his sword :D
