Greeks don't just party...

We throw huge charities as well.

The school I go to, University of California, Irvine, is well known for having the biggest greek charity event in california. Each fraternity and sorority is paired randomly and given the task to put together their own 12 minute version of the musical of their choice (disney musicals are not allowed however). And thus we work our asses off and get people to watch and judge our show and all ticket sales are donated.

Be advised that the singing is all done by the actual people, we actually sing that damn thing and choregraphy the show ourselves aswell, and build the set and buy all the costumes and props. WE DO THIS LEGIT.

here you go... PI KAPPA ALPHA and PI BETA PHI give you Miss Saigon!

Intro video to introduce the cast and directors of the show. Most people just do some stupid thing where they are like "hey im the director... enjoy our show" i was given the task to direct the video. It didnt come out to what I had planned but everyone enjoyed it.

And off to the musical!!!! and if you are wondering, im the dood with the cut sleeves, cuz im cool like that!

If you have to ask... No i have never done anything like this in my life, dont knwo how to dance, or even sing for that matter, but i learned to do it all in 6 months... fucking long ass six months.

This is easy to fix, so I'll let you do it.

Just use the ID of the video and wrap it in the tags.

No need to post the URL.

like so:

Code: Select all

and viola, it works.

Okay now it works. To give everyone an idea of what happened, our show ended up in fourth place, however a lot of people kept telling us that we should have won first. For me i dont really care, i had a great time performing and it was just intense. Plus it was the first time where i performed in front of 8000 people (yah we had about 8000 people there).

I forgot to mention that yah, the lighting was all done by ourselves aswell. 18 people in the cast, 3 people doing lighting, and 7 other guys being our crew guys, just too much fun.

That's pretty tight that yall did that for a philanthropy event. I know a few pikes, and its always a fun time with them. Do they have SAE over where you're at?

It's funny you made this thread now. I just got back from UIFI, which is the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute put on by NAIC. UIFI is a 5 day leadership institute where Fraternity men and Sorority women come together around to values of what it is to be Greek and help learn from each other ways to better incorporate their values in their chapter and so forth.

That and I'm organizing Sigma Pi's Saved a Life Day, which is a day during welcome week where we are bringing in a drunk driving simulater and educating a lot of the incoming freshmen and other students about alcohol poisoning and other dangers. I definitely feel that Greek life is beginning to return to what it was originally intended for, though it will take a long time.

And your philanthropy sounds like it was crazy fun. how long have you guys been putting it on down there?

To answer, SAE was paired with tridelt and they came in 2nd, however a lot of people had mixed feelings on their show. Plus one of the judges was their first alpha class from like 17 years ago. I dont really care, but i know a few SAEs from playing rugby with them.

The philanthropy itself is called Songfest and this time around it was the 27th.

picture also, once again im the dood with the red bandana and the cut sleeves, and yes the bullet belt also.

As for UIFI, i was suppose to go, but i made other commitments instead, next year.

This is a provocative remark, not meant to disrespect anything you do:

Honouring tradition is all good and well, but the tradition of giving a frat a stupid name is just... stupid.

For fucks sake, get some names.

(If you want to stay greek... call yourself "Spartans" muahahaha.)

P.S.: That performance was great.

Lame comment of naivety, let me educate you. :D
With few exceptions (notably "Acacia", "FarmHouse", and "Triangle"), the names of North American fraternities and sororities consist of two or three Greek letters which are usually abbreviation of a Greek motto. For this reason, fraternities and sororities are known collectively as the Greek System and its members as Greeks. The use of Greek letters started with the first such organization, Phi Beta Kappa, which used Greek letters to hide their secret name.
I'm Phi Beta Kappa and proud of it. My wife is Alpha Beta Chi.
The Phi Beta Kappa Society is an academic honor society with the mission of "fostering and recognizing excellence" in the undergraduate liberal arts and sciences. Founded at the College of William and Mary on December 5, 1776, it was the first collegiate organization to adopt a Greek-letter name and is the oldest honor society in the United States. Today there are 270 chapters and over half a million living members.

Phi Beta Kappa (ΦΒΚ) stands for Φιλοσοφία Βιοῦ Κυβερνήτης or philosophia biou kubernetes — "Love of wisdom, the guide of life."

neither did I. and you will love UIFI, or at least the people you meet there. I met the first Beta's and Delts that I liked there. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has a lot of negative feelings between different greek chapters, most of them unfounded. and Psi, I didnt expect you to be a Fraternity man, but I have more respect for you now that I know :D. you also forgot Fiji in the list of Fraternities with names.

Lots of things you guys don't know about me. :smoken:

There are a lot of organizations out there, some greek system, some not. The Lions and Rotary are older greek societies as well. I guess this begins the consiracy of why my nick is: psi or Ψ

Interesting that the names actually mean something. They just still sound lame. Well, our frats aren't better, usually....
