I don't think that is the reason. Simple really, the punk rocker was talking shit and he got the repercussions. But couldn't that be said with a lot of different subcultures period? I mean, seriously, some of us on this board calling ourselves nerds would be disrespectful to nerds of days past.
Oh and those kids weren't Emo. They may be poser punks but that doesn't make them Emo.

my general rule of thumb when it comes to emo kids vs. punks (however poser they may be) is answering yes to 2 or more of these questions :
are pants/top tighter than most girl's?
does head look disprortionate to body? (due to huge hair and tight pants)
lots of make up? (this can be a case for punk fashion, but while emo has so much materialistic base, punk has not proven AS MUCH when it somes to men)
remember: this is in terms of JUST fashion.
they could be into reggae, jazz, even pop and yes, punk as well, but from what i can tell, i would say that they are emo lookin'. because emo is a sub genre of punk, it can be easily mistaken for punk, but it is not. MAYBe the girl looks punk, but ... but then again, it really doesnt matter enough to go any further.
let us end this pointless discussion and revel in th fact that the star wars guy hit him and we should just be happy with that.
