The non-japanese cartoon/animation thread.

I've started threads about a few different shows already that have been met with reasonable success, so I might as well do one giant one and see how it goes.

Now onto the reason why I started this thread: Justice League/Justice League Unlimited. I haven't seen every episode yet, but I downloaded a couple of seasons recently and I watch a few episodes every now and then.

I just saw the season 2 finale and it was just really, really good. It's mindless JLA "I'll punch you 'till you die" mentality, but it's really entertaining and some of the fights are great. The big 7 (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, The Flash and Hawkgirl) just glow on the screen and played off each other really well in that episode, and it was nice to have the Flash in the spotlight for a change (in what I think was a Crisis on Infinite Earths homage).

The 3rd season has some great episodes as well, like the one centered on the Flash or where some of the female members get brainwashed into beating the crap out of each other or the season finale where Superman cuts loose.

Great show.

That's it.

Carry on.

PS: The Flash is awesomeness.

I've watched the show once and I think the animation is one of the best I've seen in a cartoon, it's lively, it has tonnes of action and movement, unlike still frame cutouts like anime. I've only watched one episode though, so I can't really decide if it's all good.

Another noteworthy mention is the Tick and Ren and Stimpy.

Justice League's animation is outsourced to Asia (like most other american cartoons) but yeah, they have so much movement because they keep the character designs simple (but still great looking). I have nitpicks with the animation sometimes (like how the Flash doesn't really move that fast sometimes) but it looks great most of the time. The "brainwashed-female-leaguers-free-for-all" episode has some awesome stuff in it, especially after Wonder Woman joins in and hell breaks loose.

The Tick is awesome.

It sucks that the animation is so terrible because the story/dialogue and character designs are great.

Ahhh I havent seen The Tick in ages. Was a good one.

I used to watch gargoyles back in the day.

Justice League is awesome and the best super hero cartoon by far. It stays faithful to the days when we had no anime and has much better animation, wish they could've done the same with some of the other cartoon network shows. Benten, Teen Titans, and that new Batmand series good, but I flinch at everytime I see it.

Gargoyles ruled and I definitly want to see them again, I'd kill to have the network that showed them even if it is toon disney.

i also loved gargoyles! the story was good and the characters were interesting. what really set the mood of the show was the opening music.

i have seen all the episodes of JLU as well, save for the last season. looks like i m gonna download it soon.
=)
its a petty they cancelled the series. i read that in wiki.

How the hell are they gonna cancel one of the better series on cartoon network before people get tired of it?! It would've been better for them to cancel Teen Titans and show more new episodes of JLU, not that I hate Teen Titans, just that JLU kicks its ass any time.

I think they already canceled Teen Titans a few mouths ago. It would be stupid to end a show like JLU now but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were just loosening the lineup for the latest anime craze. That is if you can take Wikipedia’s info seriously.

look it up in wiki. it said that the editor or writer confirmed that they cancelled the series. but then again who can we believe really?

the new "the batman" series doesnt bode well with me. i have only seen one or two here and there but i dont like it at all. its completely different from mainstream story and the villains are just crazed lunatics. as opposed to scheming lunatics.

the classic batman animated series were the best. we can always expect a solid story packed into a 22min show. you feel for the characters. the orchestra music is great too.

Yep. Gotta have love for the 90s superhero catoons, all of the ones I watched were great, and they had FoxKids instead of the 4kids crap. They always cancel it when it gets good and they never air it again, or they show it on a network I don't have. I seriously think the 90s X Men, Cybersix, Batman, Spiderman, and even Superman were the great american cartoons, or maybe my memories are fuzzy cause I was 8 at the time.

Teen Titans would be a much better show if they got rid of the anime shit.

Gargoyles is hit and miss. The first season and first half of the second season is amazing but most of the rest of the stuff isn't as good. The last 3 episodes of the second season are awesome though.

There's some really great storytelling in that show, the City of Stone arc with Macbeth and Demona is really, really good.

It's the same with the new series Benten, in the opening theme song they use the same animation they used for Samurai Jack and would be awesome if they did use it on that show. Teen Titans needs Justice League animators badly.

Seriously though, the Flash kicks ass.

"Dude, as soon as you finish your drink, turn yourself in."

"Got me again, Flash!"

I watched JLU when they showed it on our own crappy version of CN.

I liked it, GL and John Stewert was clearly my fav cause i was shocked to see that they made a black superhero who lived among Supes,Bats and wasnt a clichè.

Now that Cartoon Network here doesnt show more of it, i cant bothered to dl eps cause i read the comics version now who are much better and less brainless and campy.

The show is NOT campy or brainless (though some of the episodes are nothing but mindless fights).

I don't know if it's better than the comics, but I've never liked the Flash, Superman and even Wonder Woman as much as I do now after watching the show.

Its easy liking them if you havent given thier comics a try ;)

You cant even compare the animation to the comics cause its like comparing a book to its movie version.

Animation are good to watch when you want watch some fun, but not worth downloading them instead of thier comic version who give one thing much better than any animation of comics, Character driving stories not focus only brawling feasts.

I have watched TT Go or whatever you call that ugly animation and even Batman and Superman animation before JLU.

I use to watch them weekend mornings when i was younger fun but not much more.

And you like the Witchblade anime?

Your loss, man.

I'm buying those JLU DVDs as soon as they come out.

Witchblade is ok not anything else both anime and comic.

I am the same with comics, manga, books. For some reason thier animation or movie version pale in comparison not that they are bad or anything.

I would watch JLU if they showed on tv again thats for sure even though it dont look as good as it use to pre my comics days.

Its like i tought Godfather movies was the best and then i read thier book version who is like 100 times better.

boondocks is something i sometimes watch, though the style has been said to be anime influenced. I'm not sure to what extent, but i for some reason cant hate it.

i watched some of teen titans and i thought it was okay, but a little confused as to why it became so fucking popular. that and the comics aren't half bad even though i thought they would be. and wait- wasn't teen titans animated in japan? i know its in english, but it was more of a collaborative project, right?

Dang, I wished they'd showed Rocko's Modern Life again, I really miss that cartoon. The cartoons I on Nickelodeon were great when they had Angry Beavers, CatDog, and Ren & Stimpy. I still sing "Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy" just to annoy the my sis.

Absolutely. I love that show so much. I'll flip over to Nickelodean occasionally to see if they are putting on re-runs, but no such luck

They show it over and over again on Nicktoons.

Toon Disney shows re-runs of Gargoyles late at night and I hear Boomerang shows Batman, Superman and Justice League at night as well.

all the sudden a rush of cartoon memories flow through my mind. "OOOOOH YEeeaH!" i forgot about those! rocko's modern life was really funny, and catdog was so weird. i remember the really odd characters. and angry beavers. need i say more?

and then there was.... *_* what was that one cartoon?..im not sure it was nick that did it. maybe a cartoon network thing. it was about this cat. it was blue ( i think) and it lived in this little house in the middle of nowhere. tumble weeds kind of thing going on. these really creepy things happened all the time when the cat just wants to chill. things about eggplants. like aliens..or something. the cat was always scared but the old couple that it lived with didn't seem to really get it. it kinda freaked me out, but it was really just genius. im hitting myself for forgetting the name. anyone?
