just saw Beowulf and Grendel tonight. Visually, it was stunning. the style seemed to fit the story at the very least. however, i am not fully familiar with the tale, but from what i have heard of those who are, it completely fucks up the story. casting was well i thought, but the story, even to me seemed off. and for some unknown reason, the witch had no accent. everyone else did, but she seemed just like she came out of america '06. im not sure why they did that. and she seemed way too clean compared to everyone else and to the situation.

all in all, it wasn't too bad, enjoyable to say the least and i wouldn't mind seeing it again. im glad i caught it on its last night at my theater. ( plus, i got paid to see it)

I am semi looking forward to:

The science of Sleep

Running with Scissors

Edmond

Stranger than Fiction

10th and Wolf

and Zen Noir

But I'll probably won't see most of these because A) our theaters suck and B) it costs $10 for a ticket.

It's not a 2006 movie, but this didn't fit in the DVD collection thread...

Anyway, I rented A Tale of Two Sisters yesterday (with low expectations), a Korean horror movie that actually turned out to be very, very good. Beneath an at times red herring-esque Horror/Mystery exterior lies a relationship drama centered around a rather dysfunctional family- a seemingly apathic father, semi-bipolar stepmother and two daughters, just returned home after an extended stay at an asylum. An updated Korean folk-tale beautifully shot, acted, and directed, with an almost Shyamalan-esque twist at the end (Sixth Sense, not The Village).

I am going to watch it again in a couple of hours, as it simply blew me away the first time through. Some post-movie thinking is needed to make all pieces fit, so it definitely warrants a second viewing for full comprehension of what is actually going on.

You're being sarcastic, right?

Snakes on a Plane is by far the best movie ever made by humans. Move over Godfather and Citizen Kane, a new king has been crowned.

I hear its mostly about the atmostphere of the movie rather than the actual movie itself.

I don't know. I mean, are they just regular poisonous snakes? I mean, please tell me they're like mutant snakes, who are incredible intelligent, like the sharks in "Deep Blue Sea". If not, I find the premises a bit ridiculous. Samuel L. better hope he fairs better in this movie than he did in Deep Blue Sea, lol.

I'm serious, the movie going EXPERIENCE was the best i've ever had. the movie was still pretty good in my opinion, that is if you're going to see it to have fun. someone going to it that thinks its dumb may not like it...but seriously it was a pretty funny movie with some pretty good snake scenes. they are normal poinsonous snakes not-indiginous to north america. the movie is a little campy, but on purpose. I think this is going to be the Rocky Horror Picture show of our generation

as per your concern about the snakes, they rationalize it decently well i believe. but the snake biting action is pretty sweet haha

"Inside Man" was a good movie but I didnt really get into the movie, was somehow kinda flat in a way.

We rented Inside Man i thought it was awesome.

You could see with the camera work that Spike Lee is good director.

The actors was awesome even Clive Owen was good for once. Still i wont forgive him for ruining on of my fav movies Sin City.

I just saw Pirates II, i thought it was amazing even better than the first one.

SPOILERS.

I thought the hole sea monster thing was great, Jack was even funnier than the first movie and i liked that Lizzie wanted him instead Will cause seriously who would choose Will before Jack ;)

Next movie they better save Jack fast, i wont stand if they look for him the hole movie. I want a movie with him not without him!!!

SPOILERS END

Saw X-men 3 yesterday also, thought it was pretty crappy since I expected more, was waaaay to hyped

And yes Spike lees camera work was awesome in the movie but still there was something missing, cant put my finger on it

Inside Man story was very smart which i liked, i expected it too be predictable which it wasnt. Liked that the "bad guy" wins in the end.

Is that somehting missing the part where spike lee introduced too much "take down the white guy" theme? Inside Man was an amazing movie, just there was too much unnessary racism, ie. the cop calling the hostage a arab, and the guy then complaining about how he wont talk unless he get his gets his turban back. Seriously Spike Lee needs to stick to movies that revolve around a plot that involves racism, not introduce it into an movie that doesnt need it. Clive Owen steals the show, he is the fucking man. And the joke about the shoe up the ass was a wtf, why say that? No doubt the movie was good, but Spike Lee and his hate the white man antics made no improvement in the movie. I do have the say though, his way of cinematography is amazing, did enjoy deznzel's super fast non walking zoom when a hostage was shot. My problem was just that racism wasnt needed in this movie.

i will start talking about snakes on a plane once i see it... i know, halfnhalf hasnt seen it yet? well ive been out of town all weekend and summer school is taking up my time, but come thursday night i will finally see this work of art.

The whole hype and especially geekiness surrounding Snakes makes it less and less appealing.

Saw Clerks II, has its moments but a letdown overall. Not worth a movie ticket.

the hype and the fans is what makes the experience all the better but to each his own.

I think you are thinking too much about his old movies about the racism thing.

Also racism has rarely been more current than now specially against muslims.

The turban thing happens all the time.

If you were muslim you would understand how the guy felt.

I have been wating for a movie where they showed racism against muslims.

After 9/11 muslims around the world are treated like garbage.

And about that cop being racist, yeah a cop from NY CANT be racist....

racism is still a big issue. why should or shouldnt a cop be racist? I understand your point that the point of this movie isnt to deal with race issues but it's still realistic. though im sure that if this wasnt a Spike Lee film that you would be questioning the use of racism ;)

Exactly my point!

Just cause his most famous movie was about racism, he cant put racism stuff in his new movies.

although i was really against seeing snakes on a plane i did end up seeing it.. all i can say is that is was exactly was i thought it was going to be like. so bad it was good, and well done gore. there were only a handful of people in the theater, but when they had a line, something like (this might be a spoiler, so please be careful if you are planning seeing the movie and care) "go playstation!" more than half of us cheered.
