What can I say about the dreaded ooze, it is a bastard. I was just mentioning your speed because I myself can't imagine trying to do those parts where you only have a centimeter to move in with that kind of speed. Hell, I used to play only one speed up, then I moved to two because I was missing a few badies here and there. I don't know, I just can't do the really precise movements with such a sensetive Vic Viper. :kekeke:

Well, the hit boxes on the ship are ridiculously small, so there plenty of leeway to do crazy shit. I do crash a couple of times though, but it's usually when I go for that extra capsule that is practically stuck on a wall.

Stage 4 got ya down? I some times go for that capsule that is half way merged with the wall. But after a few deaths, I said "Alright, perhaps I should let that capsule go." Even though they are worth so much points.

Exactly. Have you ever gone for those capsules just before the boss in stage 4? The ones inside those stupid generating walls? I sure haven't. Now that I think about it, it should be relatively simple with Type 2 to create a diagonal pathway towards those capsules, and then leave through another route. I might actually try that later.

Whoa crazy man, let me tell you dis...
Those walls regenerate REALLY fast, if you are going to try it, be careful as shit. Whether I am playing Type 2, or 4, I usually just do the simple, run to the edge of the screen and glide through it. Plus you get decent points from the options killing the wall.

You get more points by using Type 2 and shooting backwards-diagonally with your lasers as you're stuck to the right side of the screen. :wink:

Meh, I'll try it a couple of times and see if it's worth it. The speed of my ship won't be a problem (don't forget, I use speed x3), I think the real issue here will be to open enough room for me to maneuver.

Yypes 1-4 are different weapon arrays in Gradius V. See, in Gradius you get these little energy things that float around you called Multiples (Some people call them Options). And the way they help you depends on which Type you choose. In a Single player game ou get 4 multiples, in two player, both players share the four multiples. When you fire, the multiples will fire as well, with the same type of ammo. I'll give you a run down on what each type does.

Type 1- Freeze: The multiples float around the fighter as you move, and pressign the "Multipel Control" button freezes the multiples in place

Type 2- Directional: The multiples move around similar to Type 1, but when you hit the "Multiple Control" button and press to move up and down the multiples will fire their ammo in whatever direction you choose, however your fighter cannot move while you are hitting the "Multiple Control" button

Type 3- Spacing: The Multiples are in a veritcal line above and below the fighter and pressing the "Multiple Control" button will change their spacing around the fighter either closer or further away.

Type 4- Rotational: The multiples float around the fighter like Type 1&2, but when you hit the "Multiple Control" button, they rotate around the figher, and hitting the botton again makes them rotate the other way.

Remember that's Gradius V (Read 5, not the actual letter v) for the PS2!

Wow, nice work on the descriptions Tempest.

And we call them Options because that's what they were called originally. Multiples makes more sense than I guess but Options sounds cooler. :smoken:

Word, options for life. :smoken: And while it was nice Tempest, I would have changed "float" to "follow" because that is what they do. They mimic your very movement and thus follow you. (Except type 3 of course.)
EDIT - Was playing the Gradius V last night, and I landed a big first. Beat stages 1-5 with out a single death. I usually choke some where on 5, but not this time baby. Too bad I choked hard core on stage 6, so I didn't get a high score. So Femto, have you been playing this game at all any more or are you too busy or just don't give a damn.

I little bit of all of those actually.

Gaming comes and goes with me. For a couple of months I'll be starved for games and then I'll just slow down and not want to play anything for a while. I guess my gaming fix gets stronger when new games are coming out that are actually good and I've really been waiting for. Right now, there is little to be excited about, nothing like DMC3, MGS3 or Gradius V on the horizon. It'll come to me again in a few months. I actually ordered Digital Devil Saga because none of the games in my library are too appealing right now and I've been hearing good things about it. 3rd Strike is awesome, but it's no fun when all the people you play with moved back home after classes ended.

And then there's my job. I just got me a summer job from 8AM to 5PM baby. I have to get up at 6:30 because of the commute though, so yeah, I've been a little busy these days. Trying to save up for that neo. Image

Yeah, 3rd Strike without opponents does suck yea verily. My problem was that the people I played with were at home while I was away at school. I tried learning people to keep myself busy. In fact, I couldn't go out tonight, so I started working on Urien, someone Ayanami can be proud of :wink: I remember when I first tried him , there was a combo I thought was so cool but could never do, d+HP (That elbow lifter he and Gill have), EX Headbutt, Regular Headbutt. Decent priority, nice damage, and nice stun damage as well. Now I'm getting it down with like 90% accuracy. I am still working the kinks out of Aegeus Reflector. I dunno, I'm gonna have to work on set ups and the like. And still on the to do list is your boy Femto, Yang. I am pretty much picking him because I saw during a practice round that he has U of M colored uniform (Gold top and Blue pants) So I figure I'll have to learn him, espcially if I play up at school. There was a CvS2 tournament one time, but I am not that good at Cvs2. The prize, if I remember correctly, was a copy of Anniversary collection

I hear ya Femto, I got my summer job and it is hard for me to even keep up with these god damn fourms. :shock: As for the game itch, it never leaves me, it's what I do. You draw, I play games. Oh, and too bad all your comp for 3rd Strike is gone. How is the competition over there Femto??

has anyone played the battlestar galactica game on the xbox or gamecube or whatever console it is on? i want to know how it is, so i can decide if i should take the time to find the ROM or spend the money on the console hehe

The Neo-Geo Shooting Special!

A video with a review for every neo shmup ever released provided by Kiken of neo-geo.com fame. It's quite good, with lots of footage and reasonable reviews. If you are 56k though, stay as far away from this as possible. It weighs at a hefty 490MB and is 1 hour and 20 minutes long.

It is worth the download though and I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to check out some neo goodness.

Just picked up Castle Shikigami 2 for PS2. Got it used for $10. Really fun game. The cool thing is that your character's bullets get temporarily stronger if you get close to the bullets.

Castle of Shikigami 2 is pretty fucking sweet and worth the cheap ass amount of cash it goes for. I will try and get a score worth posting in this game and post it some time.

Any who, I just finished watching that Neo Geo Shooting special and for the most part I thought it was sweet. I disagreed with some of his opinions, but as you do. I am a rather benevolent critic, especially when it comes to a genre I have a hard on for, so I thought he was a tad tough. I have only played Last Resort once, but after seeing that footage of the game, I obviously need to go back and play it again, I don't remember it looking that pretty.

I felt like reviving ye old shooting thread today. Have been playing the shit out of shooters as of late with this new computer of mine. The LCD monitor I have flips so you can play all those sweet vert shmups in full screen. :P

Any who, I was wondering who here has played any Rizing shooters??

I just started playing Battle Garega and Armed Police Batrider again the other day, and I forgot just how freaking awesome these games are. Highly recommended from yours truly here.

Also, I have got to start playing more Ikaruga now that you have picked it up Femto. I need to destroy your score like I did in Gradius V. :twisted:
